In this assignment, I implemented a project related to the Academic text.

Through the Academic text, I need to find the main point of the text in the form of

graphical management and need to make a summary. I also need to implement

the critical response to the text Language of whether I agree or disagree. Then,

things that I pursue in the task must be provided in the form of powerpoint and I

need to run the presentation on my work.

2.0 ACADEMIC TEXT

THE BENEFIT OF MUSIC EDUCATION

Music is a very powerful subject. It has been used since the Greek times for

healing, communication, relaxation and for enjoyment. Even before birth, we are

aware of our mother's heartbeat and during infancy are relaxed by the song of a

lullaby.

According to Harris, Maureen (1956), music is such a powerful force, it

creates deep emotions in humans. It is played at weddings for happiness, in

horror films and during war for fear and at home for happiness and because of

this lends itself to relaxation, stress relief and health therapy and the connection

between music, body, and soul has even been shown to improve physical and

mental health.

Then, skills such as working in teams, communication, self-esteem,

creative thinking, calmer attitudes, imagination, discipline, study skills and

invention are learnt and improved through the study of music and by focusing on

the fact that young children are mostly highly receptive to pitch and rhythm. One

of the main ways a child learns its language that we can drive education in music

to children to help them with benefits ranging success in society and in life.

2
Music also can improve your child abilities and other non-music tasks but

it`s important to understand that music does not make one smarter. As he

explains, the many intrinsic benefits to music education include being disciplined,

learning a skill, being part of the music world, managing performance, being part

of something you can be proud of and even struggling with a less than perfect

teacher. ( Michael L.Mark and Patrice Madura, 2010 ).

Besides, according to Ruth Wright ( 2010), music is a part of our society

and a part of all communities. Every human culture uses music to carry forward

its ideas and ideals. A study of the arts provides children with an internal glimpse

of other cultures and teaches them to be empathetic towards the people of these

cultures. This development of compassion and empathy, as opposed to

developing greed and a selfish attitude, provides bridges across different cultures

that lead to a respect of other races at an early age.

A part from that, music has a great value to our economy. It creates jobs,

increase's tax base, boosts tourism and spurs growth in related businesses.

Music study develops skills that are necessary in the workplace such as

teamwork skills and discipline - during musical performances all members must

work together to create the sounds they wish to achieve and for this regular

practice is also required. Music favours working and ‘doing' as opposed to

observing, and these are the ethics employers are looking for ( Mc Pherson and

Graham F. Welch ( 2012 ).

3
According to Gary E.Mc Pherson and Graham F.Welch ( 2012 ). It can be

shown that some measures of a child's intelligence are increased with music

instruction. A connection between music and spatial intelligence can helps people

to visualize and imagine solutions. This helps people to solve problems creatively

and is critical to the sort of thinking necessary for solving mathematical problems

and even general daily tasks. It has been indicated that musical training

physically develops the parts of the brain known to be involved with processing

language and reasoning, and can actually wire the brain's circuits in specific

ways because memory can be improved through the linking of familiar songs with

objects just as linking images can past memories and emotions can be triggered

by audio.

“ When you look at the children age two to nine, one the breakthroughs in

that is music’s benefit for language development, which is so important at that

stage”, ( Ruth Wright (2010 ). Then, he add “ recent studies have clearly

indicated that musically training physically develops the part of the left side of the

brain known to be involved with processing language.

The Conclusion, music is a powerful tool and as seen can dramatically

improve and enrich everybody. It makes sense to push music education and to

allow young generations to gain these wonderful benefits. Higher intelligence

through increased creative thinking, problem solving and physically stronger

4
brains, a higher perception of life including better attitudes, strong desires to

achieve and fulfil and higher self-esteem, better developed discipline, study skills,

concentration, communication and team skills which transfer from education

through to career and a better understanding of communities and society.

5.0 CRITICAL RESPONSE

About the academic text above, I agree with the writer. Many benefits we can get

by music education. Music education is important to us. Why I said music

education is important and I agree with the writer about the academic text?

Music education is important because music can bring many benefits to

us. As we know, music can control and influence our emotional and soul. When

we angry, we can calm down our self by listening to music. When we sad, we can

be happy even there is no people make we happy. We can listen to music by

radio, mp3 and by live performance. But, the important thing is the music what we

listen. Music can be heard in various versions such as rock, metallic, slow,

spirituality and romance. We can listen to the spirituality and slow music when we

angry because our emotions can be calm and control by the music. According to

Harris, Maureen (1956), music is such a powerful force, it creates deep emotions

in humans.

I also agree because music also important in health. Music is a health

therapy. The person who is listening to music can improve their mental and

physical health. It is because music can provide peace of mind and brain. When

brain and mind in peace mode, our physical and mental development also

increase in good condition. I also agree because music can help us especially

children to learn language. By music, we can learn any language and can help us

to improve our skills in communication. For example, we can learn Spanish

8
language when we listen to Spanish music. We can learn the grammar and the

word that contained in the lyrics of the music. According to Ruth Wright (2010),

recent studies have clearly indicated that musically training physically develops

the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing

language.

By music, we can carry forward our ideas and ideals. I agree with this

because it is happen to me. When I want to do some writing, I must listen to the

music. The reason is I can carry forward my idea and I would not be sleepy when

I do my work. In addition, I would not be feel boring and lazy when doing some

work. I also need music when I want to solve my problems. It makes me calm

and thinking creatively what I supposed to do to solve my problems. In addition,

music has a great value to our economy. It creates jobs, increase's tax base,

boosts tourism and spurs growth in related businesses. Music can give a chance

to the person whose do not excellent in academic education. Even they are not

excellent in academic education, they still have a chance to have a job. Their

skills playing music is a great value to our economy. By music they can increase

tax base and can boosts tourism.

Others, there are some statement that I do not agree. It is about the music

can improve the skills of working in team. For me, music cannot do that. Skills of

working in team only can be improved by the self-motivation possessed by the

music player. High motivation by the music player will produce the nice versions

of music. Such as orchestra, the music cannot make the group of people to

9
working in team but the attitude of the player and their motivation are needed to

make them working in team.
