GEOMETRIC DIMENSIONING AND TOLERANCING (GD&T)

INTRODUCTION

Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is a modern engineering drawing system which provides
the means for stating on the drawing necessary dimensional and tolerance requirements not
otherwise covered by implication or standard interpretation. It is a method of specifying tolerances
of geometric form, position and orientation with respect to the actual function or relation of part
features which can be economically produced.

CONTENTS
Day 1:
1. Introduction to GDT
2. Definition of GDT
3. Standards for GDT
4. Direct tolerancing method
Case study 1
5. Rules for drawing and design
6. Common Symbols used in GDT
7. Assessment on the tolerancing of your design
8. Geometric characteristic symbols
9. Composite tolerancing

Day 2:
10. Simultaneous requirements for combined parts
11. Composite position tolerance
12. Two single segment feature control frame
13. Inspection for proper tolerances and dimensioning
Case study 2
14. Datum and relevant selection
15. Decision diagrams
16. Study of sample drawings
17. Convert from +/- to true position tolerancing
18. Design of gages

BENEFITS
At the end of this programme, participants will be able to :

1. To describe and interpret the use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing on engineering
drawings.
2. To assist the effective application of geometrics as a communication and technical tool in
industry.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This programme is designed for all levels of management and employees who are involved in the
calibration, inspection, measurements and test activities.
