Has a change been made which is objectionable to ASME? If so, state reasons: NO
Summary of Changes
Significant:
• Designation and ordering:
- any additional optional tests or inspections: added
- standard inspection document is now a test report 2.2 according to EN 10204 (otherwise no change: if required, any
other type of inspection document in accordance with EN 10204)
• Chemical compositions: See below
• Product analysis tolerances:
- minimum and maximum specified values on cast analysis have been updated per the addition of new grades
- for carbon content between 0.50% and 0.60% the tolerance has been lowered from ± 0.03 to ± 0.02
- for copper content ≤ 1.00% the tolerance has been lowered from ± 0.07 to ± 0.04
- for titanium content > 1.00% the tolerance has been extended from ± 0.05 to ± 0.07
• Mechanical properties: See below
• Surface quality: For rounds and rod delivered in condition 1U, 1C,1E and 1D:
- Permissible defect depth and Max. % of delivered weight in excess of permissible defect depth are to be agreed upon at
the time of enquiry and order on the basis of EN 10221 in the 2005 edition.
- Permissible depth of discontinuities and Max. % of delivered weight in excess of permissible depth of discontinuities:
Editorial/Minor:
• New order of Tables:
Now: austenitic steels, austenitic-ferritic steels, ferritic steels, martensitic steels, precipitation hardening steels.
Previously: ferritic steels, martensitic steels, precipitation hardening steels, austenitic steels, austenitic-ferritic steels.
• New order of materials within each table, some material now classified as Standard when they were previously classified
as Special
• New order of chemical components in Chemical Composition Tables
• Figures are relocated after the Tables (they are before the Tables in Edition 2005)
• List of EN 10088 parts: Part 4 and Part 5 added
Part 4: Technical delivery conditions for sheet/plate and strip of corrosion resisting steels for construction purposes
Part 5: Technical delivery conditions for bars, rods, wire, sections and bright products of corrosion resisting steels for
construction purposes
• Updated list of CEN members
• New "chapter" Introduction previously included in "chapter" Scope, steels covered by a patent. Updated list of patented
steels
• Normative references:
- "For dated references, only the edition cited applies" added
- EN 10168, Steel products - Inspection documents - List of information and description and EN 10204, Metallic products
- Types of inspection documents are now undated
- EN 10052:1993, Vocabulary of heat treatment terms for ferrous products - EN 10079:2007, Definition of steel products
and EN 10088-1:2014, Stainless steels - Part 1: List of stainless steels are now dated
- Withdrawn EN standards have been replaced by their EN ISO equivalent: EN 10045-1 by EN ISO 148-1 for Charpy
pendulum impact test, EN 10002-1 and -5 by EN ISO 6892-1 and -2 for tensile testing at room temperature and at
elevated temperature
• Terms and definitions: Product Forms and Types of Heat Treatment replaced by references to EN 10079 and EN 10052
• Surface quality: defect is now called discontinuity and defect depth is called depth of discontinuity
• Test methods: Withdrawn EN standards have been replaced by their EN ISO equivalent. Striker radius of 2mm (KV 2) to
be used for impact test (as in former EN 10045-1)
Recommended Corrections To Cover Sheet (Except Year of Edition in the Subtitle):
Rewrite requirement for Permissible depth of discontinuities and Max. % of delivered weight in excess of permissible depth
of discontinuities in Table of paragraph on surface quality for clarification
