A RETURN TO THE BEGINNING

T.S. Eliot once said that: “We shall never cease from exploration and the end of all our
exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
Human knowledge goes too far beyond limitation, knowledge that answer lot of questions
about the system of the world, knowledge that contradicted old practices and beliefs or
contributed for the introduction of new knowledge and discoveries. Behind this what we have
reached are the great contributions of the old generations of human minds that give a light
and way to reach this far.
Let’s go back to the beginning where we could proved the greatness of human mind, to
the beginning where we thought that the heaven is controlling our fate, where we were
dependent and obeyed the laws of nature as human beings, to the beginning where we don’t
have enough knowledge to understand the world, where the origin of all started, where the
time and space begun, where we discovered that the universe can be understood.
We will return to the times where the Greeks considered what they saw in light of more
basic assumptions; that human being can know the heavens, that the stars follow regular
motions; that they follow laws that can be comprehended by human brain. And those Greek
ideas were rediscovered in Christian Europe centuries that proved that human could
understand universe despite of having a religious culture such as the founders of modern
science, Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler. Despite of being religious, Newton contributed a
great knowledge to human when he investigated the heaven and earth, reasoned the force of
gravity to be operative on our planet and expressed it mathematical form through the help of
his pencil and paper as scientific instruments, then build his own telescope.becauese of his
invention, building of various instruments that improve our senses in observing the universe
was introduced.
Such as the use of light and then the electromagnetic spectrum that gave more accurate
information that can be captured and analyzed. But there’s more, going beyond visible light to
non-visible light such as infrared and ultraviolet ranges; discovering new ways to capture
those spectrum ranges and inventing new devices such as different types of telescopes,,\ led
us in gathering more information beyond the range of visible light that supplied more and
more data and better understanding about heavenly bodies that emit rays such as stars.
The introduction of new ways of getting data and wavelengths used in studying stellar
structures unlocked the current understanding of the big picture. As Edwin Hubble watched
the clouds like thing that were seen in his big telescope and recorded it not only using
traditional telescope but other specialized scientific instruments, he discovered the galaxies,
our sister galaxies and he observed that these galaxies were moving away from us . This
discovery became the cornerstone of the modern Cosmology.
The implications of Hubble’s law had led the astronomer to speculate that the galaxies
and other heavenly bodies were together in space that made us to came up with the idea of
Big Bang Theory that implies that the universe started in a boiling cauldron of energy,
exploded and continuously expanding until today. To understand it clearly, Albert Einstein
explained it in mathematical form called Space-time in his Theory of General Relativity where
he models space as kind of mathematical fabric, which is twisted and bend in accord with the
amount of matter or energy that it contains. We’ve also constructed different theories that
explained why the galaxies where evenly spread out in space even it started in a boiling
cauldron of energy such as the Inflation Theory of Allan Guth that implies that cosmos should
be flat and homogeneous . And to test it, we developed again a new technology, new ways of
observing and understanding the Universe.
By the used of the Hubble’s telescope and X-ray telescope joined by Boomerang infrared
device, we knew that the inflation theory was right that the universe is flat and homogeneous.
But there’s more, we’ve also discovered that our cosmos is accelerating. We expected that
the expansion of the universe would slow down but it is actually speeding up. And the concept
of the dark energy and dark matter has entered in astronomy. That this things supply the
extra gravitational pull that cause the acceleration of the cosmos.
The history of science implies that our curiosity and eagerness to understand the
universe led us to open doors for discovering the unknown. As we continue to explore, the
deeper we could understand the universe. To able to understand the universe better, we
should go back were the origin of all started. This is “ A return to the beginning”.
