Introduction
I wrote Prompter because I could not find a freeware prompter application which had all the features I wanted in a single,
lean, easily portable, no-install package. In the end, I wrote two versions: a VIDEO Prompter (with ‘mirrored’ display),
designed for use as a poor man’s teleprompter using a glass ‘screen’ angled above the PC screen; and a MINI Prompter,
designed for use on a standard PC screen, for example when recording a script in a recording or radio studio.
I make no apologies for writing Prompter using JScript and to suit Internet Explorer rather than other browsers: feel free to
adapt Prompter if it doesn’t work on your preferred non-IE browser. Similarly, the 768 pixel screen height of VIDEO
Prompter is necessary for the control ‘toolbar’ as designed, but you could adapt VIDEO Prompter’s control sizes etc. to get
around this as well. Using the entire PC screen and A Large Font for VIDEO Prompter is also deliberate, to make it easy to
use VIDEO Prompter as the basis of a teleprompter for use with a video camera, or on a lectern for public speaking.
I wrote Prompter entirely from scratch, but I was greatly inspired by the prompter applications written by J Wynia
(www.wynia.org) and Hannu Multanen (www.cueprompter.com). I also had to learn JScript (!) and found everything I
needed to know to write Prompter at Microsoft’s MSDN site (msdn.microsoft.com). Eventually.
Cad Delworth has asserted his moral right to be identified as the author of VIDEO Prompter, MINI Prompter, and this
Reference Manual. VIDEO Prompter and MINI Prompter (collectively known as ‘Prompter’) is copyrighted freeware, which
means you can freely copy it and give copies to other people, provided any copy you supply is intact and unaltered from the
original. Despite that, I reserve all my rights to the application and its code, which remain my intellectual property. You
may not charge anything for supplying or copying Prompter, and you may not claim or imply authorship or ownership of
Prompter.
I hope you like Prompter and find it a useful tool for your video and audio recording, podcast, and broadcast work, as well as
for public speaking uses such as religious gatherings, business presentations, and lecture hall ‘glass lectern’ teleprompters.
