1.1 Introduction

This manual contains information for the installation and operation of the Audio
International, Inc. (AI) 5.6” Swivel Mount Personal Viewing Monitor (PVM),
Model No. AI-56w-SWx (-MAP) including accessories AI-BSE-01 Mounting
Base & AI-PCH-01 Stowing Pouch. Information contained within this
publication includes relative physical, mechanical, and electrical characteristics.
Also included within this publication are additional references needed for
installation and operation of the unit.

1.2 Purpose of the Equipment

The 5.6” LCD Personal Video Monitor is configured for NTSC video and
equipped with a versatile swivel mount that allows viewing from any angle. Left

1.3 Operational Features

Audio International’s high-resolution monitors are specifically designed for

corporate aircraft featuring the latest technology for exceptional display quality in
sixteen million colors. Passive ventilation along the housing top and bottom edge
keeps the monitor cool. Advantages of “solid state” monitors include ultra-thin
compact construction, lighter weight, and magnetic interference immunity.

Standard finish is black anodized aluminum. Standard plating options are also
available from your AI representative. AI’s “flat screen” monitors feature
strategically placed inserts on the sides and back for simple mounting. The unit
has the option of being left or right hand mounted or may be mounted on the
bulkhead. The SWL suffix denotes a left-hand monitor and the SWR suffix
denotes a right-hand. No suffix denotes a bulkhead mount monitor. The
mounting type must be designated at the time the order is placed.

1.4 Optional Equipment

The optional AI-BSE-01 Mounting Base with integral connector is included with
each monitor ordered. Additional mounting bases are available separately for
multiple location use of the monitor.

The optional AI-PCH-01 is a rugged, padded, fabric Stowing Pouch that may be
utilized to protect your monitor when not in use. The pouch has a zippered
closure with handles attached for easy carrying.

2.0 Installation

2.1 Prior to Installation

The AI-BSE-01 Mounting Base must be attached to conform to the standards

designated by the customer, installing agency, and existing conditions as to the
unit location and type of installation. The following should be carefully
considered before installing:

2.1.1 Select a mounting location for the PVM. The location should be away
from high traffic areas to prevent accidental bumping or shaking of the
unit. Refer to Section 5.0, Specifications and Drawings, for detailed
mounting instructions.

2.1.2 Select a mounting location where 28 VDC power and video signal has
been previously installed.

2.2 Unpacking and Inspection

2.2.1 Carefully open the packaging and remove the Personal Video Monitor,
swivel arm and mounting base. Inspect the unit for damage. Retain the
packing materials and packing list. Verify that all components have been
included in the package per the packing list. The components should
arrive in good condition. However, occasionally damage does occur in
shipping.

If damage has occurred, a claim must be filed with AI within 24 hours

after unpacking and a “Return Request Authorization Number” must be
obtained from AI. Refer to the front cover of this manual for address and
telephone number of the Audio International, Inc. authorized dealership.
Repackage the unit in its original packaging materials and return it to AI
following instructions given. If no return is necessary, retain the packing
materials for storage or reshipment if necessary.

2.3 Cautions & Warnings

2.3.1 All video connections to the PVM should be shielded and properly
grounded. Avoid excessive heat, moisture, and dusty areas. Perform a
pin-to-pin check to confirm that all wires terminate in their proper
location. It is important to do a power and ground check on the pin
connections. Ensure that power and ground are applied only where
required. Refer to section 2.7 of this publication.

2.3.2 DO NOT connect or disconnect the PVM while power is applied.

2.3.2 DO NOT remove any factory-installed screws. Damage to the unit may
result and void any warranties.

length and routing of external cables must be carefully studied and
planned before attempting installation of the equipment. Allow adequate
space for installation of cable and connectors. Avoid sharp bends and
placing cables near aircraft control cables. Maintain a minimum clearance
of three (3) inches from any control cable. If wiring is run parallel to
combustible fluid or oxygen lines, maintain a separation of six (6) inches
