1. Chief Tamba Taylor was an ancient, traditional chief that ruled in the northern
province before Lofa County became a part of Liberia, he was a traditional
chief. Today, Chief Zanzar Karwa is also a traditional chief in Liberia. Kindly
explain, according to your notes and class discussions, the following about the
two chiefs:
a. How can they be said to be managers?
b. What characteristics of leadership or management make each one different
from the other?
2. Explain fully what aspects Frederick Taylor’s theory of Scientific Management would
be unacceptable in modern scope of management, and what aspects of his theory are
still useful, and being used today in modern management practice.
3. Describe, according to the notes, how Frank and Lillian Gilbreth could be said to be
“forerunners” of Mary Parker Follett.
4. Compare and contrast, Traditional and Contemporary views of organizational
structure.
5. Explain, according to your own thinking, what view of the structure of management
exists at Adventist University of West Africa, and why you think so?
6. Compare McGregor’s Theory X, and Theory Y with Frederick Taylor’s concepts, and
identify the outstanding similarities and differences that exist.
7. Discuss the major differences between the “Classical” and “Neo-classical” schools of
Management.
8. Explain the importance of Peter Drucker’s contribution to modern management.
9. How do the functions of management operate or interplay, in a Company that uses
Deer skin to make shoes for sale?
10. Discuss the various aspects of a manager’s job, and how you think each one impacts
productivity.
