Why this online course?
India is the 5th most vulnerable countries to the weather-related
extreme events (cyclones, landslides, earthquakes, droughts etc.)
according to the Global Climate Risk Index, 2020. The cyclone is
considered to be the second most disasters in India due to its
frequency of occurrence and degree of damages. India experienced
around 33 cyclones from 2009 to 2019, which killed about 12,400
people, affected 55 million population, and economic losses were
estimated to be at Rs. 95,914 crores. This has caused a loss of 1.2%
of GDP and 8.87% of the central government expenditure. Therefore,
an “Online Course on Cyclone Management” is initiated by the Centre
for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCA), MANAGE to sensitize the
various stakeholders on basics of cyclone, its impact on agriculture
and allied sectors, as well as mitigation and adaptation measures to
address the cyclones in the pre, during and post cyclone periods to
minimise the risks.
