help you select and use tools, equipment, and utensils in food fish
processing. Follow procedures in reporting defective tools, equipment,
utensils, and instruments. You will also be familiarized on the procedures in
sanitizing tools, equipment, instruments, and utensils.

The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different

learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary
level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence
of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to
correspond with the textbook you are now using.

What’s In?
This lesson will enable you to be familiar with planning and preparing for
installation, install equipment and devices, and conduct test on the installed
computer system. All you need to do is to read carefully all the topics and
apply the skills you’ve gained through the distinct activities provided in this
module.
Before going through this lesson, answer the following questions.
1. What is Occupational Health and Safety Policy?
2. What are the different hazards in the workplace?
3. Why is OHS important?

What is it?
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
An Information and Communication Technology (ICT) student should
know how to behave when working in the computer laboratory, as well as
implement a safe way of accomplishing every task. You should learn and
always adhere the safety practices when working in any electrical and
electronic device, including personal computers and its peripherals. This is
for your protection and to the people working with you and for the devices
you are using. The basis for this process begins with Occupational Health
and Safety Policies.
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a planned system of working to
prevent illness and injury where you work by identifying hazards and risks.
Health and safety procedure are the responsibility of all persons in the
computer and technology industries. You must identify the hazards and
decide how dangerous they are. Eliminate or modify the risk that it may
cause.
Occupational Health and Safety Standards
Each student has a responsibility to their peers and their organization
to report and act upon any potential workplace hazard. Students must be
aware of the type of hazards that are possibly present in the workplace.
Procedure
1. Identify the hazard
2. Clear the area near the hazard
3. Partition the hazard off or clearly identify the are to protect others
from harm.
4. If the hazard can be easily and safely cleared, then do so.
If not…
5. Report the hazard to the appropriate person to obtain assistance.
6. Following the clearing of the hazard, fill out proper documentation
to assist in identifying improved practice to avoid further hazard.
All hazards must be reported using ACCIDENTAL REPORT FORM.
This enables us to track the kinds of hazards we have in the
workplace.
Accident Reports
These forms are used to give specific details with regards to the
accidents happened in the laboratory during experiments. Below is a sample
of the form.

Hazardous Substances
If the workplace hazard appears to be dangerous to everyone,
professional assistance is required:
A. Call the supervisor or manager and advise them of the problem and
the urgency of the matter.
B. Depending on the severity of the risk, evacuation may be called.
C. Follow evacuation procedure.
D. The supervisor will call fire brigade or specialized personnel who will
deal with the spill.
Fire Exits
All fire exits should be kept cleared from obstacles. All students have
a responsibility to make sure that chairs, empty boxes, or any other type of
obstacle are not placed near fire exit doorways. All corridors also need to
have equipment stored on one side only to ensure that in the event of an
emergency there is a clear exit.
Fire Safety Procedure
If you find the fire:
1. Assess the danger before doing anything.
2. If it is safe, assist anyone away from the danger.
3. If possible, close the door to the fire area.
4. Call for assistance. Verbally call “FIRE, FIRE!” in a loud and clear
voice.
5. Break the glass section of the fire alert call.
6. Make sure you know where the fire is and any other details that may
help the fire brigade, it may be the size of fire, cause, any people hurt
or trapped, or if anyone tried to put it out.
7. If safe to do so, attack the fire with correct fire extinguisher.
If the designated fire officer is not present, someone needs to take
responsibility and:
1. Locate the source of fire.
2. Locate any people.
3. Remove everyone in the building.
4. Do a headcount
5. Notify the authorities.
Personal Safety while working with PC’s
Computer equipment can be dangerous, you and others may be
injured if you don’t follow proper safety guidelines when working with PC’s.
the following are some precautionary measures to take before working with
any computer equipment.
1. Wear shoes with non-conductive rubber soles.
2. Do not work with components that are plugged into the power source.
3. Do not remove expansion cards from a computer when it is turned on.
4. Remove jewelries when working.
5. Be sure not to mix electronic components and water.
What’s More?
Let us go back to the Occupational Health and Safety Procedures and
answer the activity below.
A. True or False.
_________ 1. It is everyone’s responsibility to report any potential hazard in
the workplace.
_________ 2. All fire exits should be kept cleared from obstacles.
_________ 3. If there is a fire, go inside immediately to check if someone is
trapped.
_________ 4. Some hazard must be reported using the Accidental Report
Form.
_________ 5. Always follow evacuation procedures.

B. Compose a short paragraph answering the situation below. Do this on

a separate sheet of paper.
Situation: There is a fire in your workplace and the designated fire
officer is not present, what is the best thing to do?
What I Can Do?
To further assess how you remember the information discussed above, try
this activity.
Move around your house and assess if there are any hazard that is present.
Give an example and their effects. Write your answer in a separate sheet of
paper.
Example of Hazards Example of harm caused
Example: Knife Cut
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

What Else I Can Do?

Based on the discussion about health and safety procedures, formulate your
own workplace safety rules. Do this on a separate sheet of paper.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
What I Have Learned?
After going through the lesson, construct your own sentences that will
describe or define the following:
