ENGINE 936.9 in MODEL 964 ENGINE 936.9 in MODEL 963
The camshaft positioner (3) functions according to the vane pump
principle. Engine oil serves as an operating fluid. A return flow check
valve inside the camshaft positioner (3) prevents return flow of the
engine oil at engine OFF, so the oil supply is achieved immediately
after the engine start. The crankshaft drives the drive gear (2) of the
exhaust camshaft (1) over a number of intermediate gears. The
adjuster housing of the camshaft positioner (3) is fastened and the
drive gear (2) and rotates with it appropriately. There is the rotor
inside the adjuster housing which is firmly fixed to the exhaust
camshaft (1). There are four operating chambers between the rotor
and the adjuster housing which is respectively sub-divided into two
chambers by a blade of the rotor. The rotor can be turned opposite
the adjuster housing in that the chambers are appropriately filled with
pressurized oil or emptied. As a result of type the tightening angle is
established within which the exhaust camshaft (1) can be adjusted
relative to the drive gear (2), and therefore the crankshaft. Filling and
emptying of the chambers in the adjuster housing is regulated with
the aid of a continuously variable control valve inside the adjuster
housing. Manual actuation of the control valve takes place over a
pressure plunger which is actuated by the camshaft positioner
solenoid (Y635). The position of the exhaust camshaft (1) is
calculated by the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) on
the basis of the input signals (A) from the camshaft position sensor
(B601).
