2nd Quarter
September 3, 2018

10-RUBY (10:45-11:45) 10-JADE (12: 45-1:45) 10- AMETHYST (1: 45-2:45) 10-SAPPHIRE (3:00-:400)

I. OBJECTIVES:
A. CONTENT STANDARDS
The learners will show understanding on Electromagnetic Spectrum, characteristics of
Electromagnetic Waves and their respective wavelengths and frequencies.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
The learners shall be able to:
a. Perform ways on how to lessen the effects of radiations.
b. Cite ways in order to harness the EM Radiations in our daily life activities.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES
The learners shall be able to compare the relative wavelengths and frequencies of different
regions/ forms of Electromagnetic Waves.

Code/s: S10FE-IIa-b-47

D. DAILY TASK
The learners are expected to.
a. Compare the relative wavelengths, frequencies and energies of the different regions of the
electromagnetic spectrum.
.

II. CONTENT

The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is the range of all types of EM radiation. Radiation is energy that
travels and spreads out as it goes – the visible light that comes from a lamp in your house and
the radio waves that come from a radio station are two types of electromagnetic radiation. The other types
of EM radiation that make up the electromagnetic spectrum are microwaves, infrared light, ultraviolet
light, X-rays and gamma-rays.

IV. LEARNING TASKS

A. ELICIT
Fish bowl: vocabulary drill

1. Frequency – is the number of waves that pass a point per unit of time.
2. Wavelength - the distance between two corresponding points on back-to-back cycles of a wave
3. Speed - is how fast the disturbance of the wave is moving. = wavelength x frequency.
4. Radiation - to describe the transfer of energy in the form of EM wave
5. Wave - a disturbance that transfers energy
6. Amplitude - the distance between the origin (equilibrium) and crest or trough.
7. Electromagnetic wave – produced by accelerating electrons / can pass through vacuum and cross
great distance. Compose of magnetic and electric field
8. Period - is the time between wave crests
9. Light years – speed of light = 300 000 000 meters per second.
10. Lambda (λ) – represents wavelength
B. ENGAGE / EXPLORE
Show the Electromagnetic spectrum chart. Analyze and in a piece of paper, write your own
interpretation regarding the relationship of frequency, wavelength and energy in the chart. Now, find a
partner or a buddy. Discuss your answer with each other and come up with a better interpretation. Few
pairs will be selected to present to class their interpretation of the Electromagnetic spectrum chart.

C. EXPLAIN
Teacher will clear any misconceptions along the discussion.

D. ELABORATE
Student will watch video about electromagnetic spectrum.
a. Describe EM spectrum.
b. Cite the different EM waves.
.

E. EVALUATE
Enumerate the different types of Electromagnetic wave. Arrange it accordingly from decreasing to
increasing wavelength.

F. EXTEND
Research from the internet about electromagnetic spectrum. Prepare to share any information regarding
the spectrum in class next meeting.

The learners are expected to.
a. Describe the electromagnetic spectrum.
b. Identify the relation between wavelength, frequency and energies of different forms of electromagnetic
waves.

The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is the range of all types of EM radiation. Radiation is energy

light, ultraviolet light, X-rays and gamma-rays.

The greater the energy, the larger the frequency and the shorter (smaller) the wavelength.
Given the relationship between wavelength and frequency — the higher the frequency, the shorter the
wavelength — it follows that short wavelengths are more energetic than long wavelengths.
