SMAVIA Recording Server
After switching on and booting the SMAVIA Recording Server appliance is initially in se-
quencer / live mode (LocalViewing).
The LocalViewing function (live mode on a connected monitor) is only for the DMS 2400
and DLS 1600 appliances available. For the VideoNetBox II the LocalViewing function is
optional.
Depending on the configuration of the splitter (see SMAVIA Recording Server Preloaded
“Configuration”), the live images from the connected cameras are displayed in a particular
split view.
In this mode, split views can already changed or single splits can be displayed in full screen
mode.
www.dallmeier.com 7
SMAVIA Recording Server
The task bar with the buttons to select the split views is displayed.
The currently selected split view is highlighted in green.

Full Screen
The Full screen option displays the current split window as a single-split in the full screen
mode. Thus, the context menu of a single split is available (see below).
The “Full screen” option can also be activated by double clicking on the respective split. A
further double-click sets the full screen back to the previous split view again.
Audio On / Off
If the displayed camera is configured for recording with audio, the audio output can be
turned on or off with Audio on and Audio off.
Fig. 3-4
Sequencer
If the device has been configured for alternately displaying various cameras (sequence),
this sequence will run in the single split after clicking on Sequencer.
Back
The context menu only contains the Back entry if a single split has been activated by click-
ing on Full screen in a multi split type. With Back the original multi split view is displayed
again.
The “Full Screen” and “Back” options can also be activated by double-clicking in the re-
spective splits.

SMAVIA Recording Server
Audio On / Off
If the displayed camera is configured for recording with audio, the audio output can be
turned on or off with Audio on and Audio off.
The camera assignment of each split must first be made in the “Splitter” dialog (see
SMAVIA Recording Server Preloaded “Configuration”). A camera activation in single splits
in the current operation is not possible.

7 Playback Mode
By selecting a track the SMAVIA Recording Server appliance switches from playback / live
mode in the playback mode. The full functionality for track playback and analysis is avail-
able. Unnecessary functions are disabled (e.g. buttons for selecting a split type).
Some functions are not available for all camera types. Corresponding buttons and controls
are deactivated if required.
Secure Tracks
Secure tracks are usually relatively small ring buffers. One secure track can be assigned to
each camera. The recording settings for secure tracks may differ from those of a LP track.
These secure tracks is saved as soon as an alarm is triggered on the device (see SMAVIA
Recording Server Preloaded “Configuration”). This prevents the current images from be-
ing overwritten. New secure tracks will subsequently be created in which the recording is
continued.
Saved Tracks
Saved tracks are secure tracks that have been protected against overwriting after an alarm
had been triggered. Depending on the number of triggered alarms, more than one saved
track may exist for each camera.
Reference Track
Single images of the cameras are stored in the reference track. These images can be used
in order to compare current camera settings and positions with the original conditions. Ref-
erence tracks are therefore not used for recording or playback.

You can access the listed events with the Event back and Event forward buttons. If you
would like to view events belonging to the relevant event, close the search function.
You can also select an event directly by double-clicking the corresponding list entry.
The Extended Search is carried out within a time window. The time window is determined
by the entries Start and Stop.

8.5 SmartFinder
The SmartFinder search function allows to search for changes in any image area.
Prerequisite is that the SmartFinder function for the respective camera is activated in the
Recording Settings dialog (see SMAVIA Recording Server Preloaded “Configuration”).
Is SmartFinder enabled for any camera, the tab “Smart Finder” can not be selected.
Follow the steps below in order to apply the SmartFinder search function:
Fig. 8-7
8.5.1 Basics
Steps A to D first show the basic course of the search function. Further settings can be
found in the “Advanced Search Options” section.
This rectangle marks the range in the image in which a search for image changes is to be
carried out afterwards.
A maximum of four image ranges can be selected.

Image changes are generally displayed as rectangular fields. You can specify in the
Draw‑Mode section whether the display is to be realized as individual fields or as a com-
bination of fields.
In the Search-Mode a relationship is established between these rectangles (image chang-
es) and the marking drawn by you.
www.dallmeier.com 37
SMAVIA Recording Server
8.5.2.1 Draw-Mode
The Draw-Mode affects the appearance of the existing image changes.
Rectangle
If you have activated Rectangle in the Draw-Mode, all the changes are each displayed
with a rectangle, whereby rectangles may also be positioned partially on top of each other.
If you have not activated Rectangle in the Draw-Mode, adjacent and overlapping rectan-
gles are combined into a single area.
www.dallmeier.com 38
SMAVIA Recording Server
Intersection
If you have activated Intersection in the Draw-Mode, only those rectangles are displayed
that are linked correspondingly with the marking drawn by you, depending on the search
method (see section “Search Mode”).
If you have not activated Intersection, all the rectangles are displayed.
www.dallmeier.com 39
SMAVIA Recording Server
Intersection Search
If Intersection Search is activated, you already obtain a search result when a rectangle
of a figure change intersects the marking drawn by you by even the smallest amount. The
geometric balance point is not of relevance then.

The reference image memory is used for comparing image quality and camera angle with
revisions. It can then be determined whether the lens was adjusted or the physical position

12 System Messages
The protocols summarized as system messages cover user actions, results of the device
integrity tests (e.g. camera failure) and messages from the internal system surveillance
(e.g. hard disk or fan failure).
The logging of system messages is conducted automatically and can not be deactivated.
The ERROR LED on the device front side (SMAVIA appliance) indicates critical messages
(system integrity tests and internal system surveillance). In support of this the messages
may also be indicated by a warning dialog or sound.
Final Confirmation
The final confirmation of the warning dialog can only be conducted by an administrator (ac-
cess level 3) with a click on OK. It is irrelevant if the dialog is displayed in live or playback
mode.
www.dallmeier.com 53
SMAVIA Recording Server
The ERROR LED (SMAVIA appliance) on the device front side indicates failures as long
as they exist.
This function is independent from the warning dialog.
A comprehensive evaluation and complete export of system messages is done in the con-
figuration of the appliance (see SMAVIA Recording Server Preloaded “Configuration”).
