G1IF4
Announcing a new feature for the G1IF4 interface unit.
G1IF4 is an interface unit which is applied between IEDs and the station bus
within a Substation Automation System (SAS).

G1IF4 is used to establish communication links

between protection relays and the station bus
(conversion of IEC60870-5-103 to IEC61850 protocol).
G1IF4 can be applied in the following examples:
- Interface for connecting protection relays without
IEC61850 communication to a Substation
Automation System (SAS) with IEC61850
- Gateway for RSM100 communication

G1IF4 provides two RS485 communication ports. The first is for communication to protection
relays using the IEC60870-5-103 protocol. The second is dedicated for the interface of G1IF4
and TOSHIBA GR relays, and is used for monitoring and maintenance by RSM100.
The Ethernet LAN and TCP/IP protocol are used for communication to the station bus. The
transmission medium is 100 BASE-TX UTP cable or 100 BASE-FX optical fibre.
G1IF4 not only has serial communication interfaces, but also binary input circuits to acquire
many forms of non-IEC61850 data/signals.
Valuable information exists in the substation within non-digital or non-IEC61850 devices and
G1IF4 is used to integrate this information into the automation system.
