Title: The Effect of College Student Involvement in Romantic Relationship to Student’s

GPA

1. Identify the independent and dependent variables of the study.

Variables:

 Independent Variable (IV): College Student Involvement in Romantic

Relationship

 Dependent Variable (DV): Student’s GPA

2. Construct an appropriate inferential statement of the problem.

Inferential Statement of the problem:

Is there a significant difference in the GPA of college students between students involved

in a romantic relationship and students who are not involved in a romantic relationship?

3. Write a null hypothesis.

Null Hypothesis:

There is no significant difference in the GPA of college students between students

involved in a romantic relationship and students who are not involved in a romantic

relationship.

4. Make an alternative hypothesis.

Alternative Hypothesis:

There is a significant difference in the GPA of college students between students

involved in a romantic relationship and students who are not involved in a romantic

relationship.
5. List the HYPOTHETICAL given separating 2 groups (each group must have at least 25

participants)

Hypothetical given:

distributed

9. If all assumptions are not violated, test mean differences using t-test independent. If there

is any violation, then use Mann Whitney U test.

10. Show the t-test p value result.

T-test p value:

T-test p value: 0.796% or 79.6% > 5%

11. What is the appropriate interpretation (statistically significant or not statistically

significant) when p value is compared to the selected margin of error?

Interpretation:

12. What is the decision (retain or reject null hypothesis)?

Decision:

Fail to reject the null (H0) because the result is not significant – retain (H0)
