short circuit current of 200Amps and an open circuit voltage of 1100V line to
line. Find Voltage regulation on (i) Full load at 0.8 p f lagging.
(ii) Full load at 0.8 p f leading

b. The input to an 11000 V, 3-phase, star connected Synchronous motor is 60Amps. (08 marks)
The effective armature resistance and Synchronous reactance per phase are 1Ω
and 30Ω respectively. Find
(i) The power supplied to the motor at 0.8 pf lagging.
(ii) Induced e.m f for a p f 0.8 leading.
(iii) Induced e.m.f for a p f 0.8 lagging. Verify the answers.
c. Derive an expression for Mechanical power developed by Synchronous motor, (06 marks)
also define max Mechanical power developed.
6 a. Why Synchronous motor is not self starting, explain? What are the methods of (06 marks)
starting of Synchronous motor.
b. A synchronous motor improves the power factor of a load of 200kW from 0.8 (08 marks)
lagging to 0.9 lagging. Simultaneously the synchronous motor carries a load of
