Dear Professor Harwell:

In this letter, I will inform you of some of the ways I have improved as a writer throughout ENGL 2100. As I
went through your class, I gained different writing skills, learned how to produce successful technical writing
documents and created some of my best work. At the beginning of your class, I was looking forward to some
creative writing with a focus on grammatical rules. In week one, I found out quickly that this class would be
very different than I was expecting. I wanted to have the opportunity to creatively write with teacher feedback
so that I could relearn some grammatical rules that I had forgotten. Your class was still able to do that for me
in a different way than I had expected. By learning the technical ways to write memos, emails, letters,
proposals, and reports I gained knowledge in how to write correctly. I was still allowed to be creative with my
assignments by picking what I wanted to focus on in almost every assignment. I really liked the different
options in each assignment’s description and how I was able to use my imagination.

One way I learned how to be successful in technical writing was through the six steps of writing. Through
planning, researching, organizing, drafting, revising, and proofreading, I was able to refine my writing to basic
steps. In my Writing Project Proposal and my Design Project Proposal, I created project calendars with each
step integrated. In the weeks that I worked on each project, I was able to stick to a plan and focus on one part
at a time. Learning how to do this has been an important step in my journey to becoming a successful writer.

Personally, I believe my best work that I created in this class was my Writing Project, “A Career Technical
Report: Geosciences: Life After High School for a Geoscience Major.” This project was my best because of
how much knowledge I previously had on the subject and how much time I spent on the entire process of
creating the report. I was more devoted to this project than most because of how it applied to my personal life.
I took advantage of the opportunity to research about my career path and learned as much as I could. I am
passionate about my career path and I believe that is why this assignment is some of my best work.

In ENGL 2100, I have learned how to correctly write memos, emails, letters, proposals, and reports. I gained
writing skills such as being able to incorporate the six steps of writing into my projects. I also created some of
my best work. This letter is only to inform and no further action is required.

Sincerely,
Sierra Stauffer
