1.0 SCOPE
2.0 MATERIALS
Suitable material shall comprise all materials that meet the specific
requirements, physically and chemically, for incorporation in the
works as indicated in the contract. The material shall be capable
for being compacted to a degree specified in the drawings and
relevant Specification, regardless of whether it is obtained from
within or outside the Site. Materials that are soft or unsuitable
merely because they are too wet or too dry for effective compaction
are not to be classified as unsuitable, unless otherwise classified by
the S.E.
3.1 Machinery/Equipment

3.2 Manpower

4.1 The location and depth for removal of unsuitable materials shall be
determined by reviewing the soil investigation reports or by
carrying out Mackintosh Probe tests. Details shall be recorded in the
form DRB-F-E011 and the works will proceed with the instructions
of SE.

4.2 Trial pits up to a depth not less than 1 m below the estimated depth
of removal of unsuitable material, Mackintosh probings or other test
as directed by S.E shall be carried out at 30 m interval to decide
the actual depth of removal as well as the depth of ground water
table.
4.3 The depth of ground water table shall be measured by pumping out
water from the pit up to the bottom level of pit and allowing the
water level to stabilize for 24 hours.
4.4 A joint survey will be carried out with SE to inspect and set out the
location in accordance with Ground Improvement Work
(Removal/Replacement of Unsuitable Material) drawings.
4.5 The unsuitable material shall be excavated and removed. The depth
and extent should be given by SE based from Mackintosh Probe
Report. Cross sections showing the extend and depth of removal of
unsuitable material will be submitted later.
4.7 Geotextile filter fabric will be placed above base of excavation when
directed by SE.
4.8 The area will be filled with suitable fill or granular material
complying with table 2.1 of Technical Specification up to existing
ground level based on Ground Improvement Work
(Removal/Replacement of Unsuitable Material) drawings or as
instructed by SE.
6.1 The work to be carried out in accordance with the Project Safety
Plan. Particular activities requiring attention are highlighted in the
Appendix C.
6.2 All machinery engaged are subject to the standard colour coding
system as required in the Site Safety Manual and all other relevant
requirements.
6.6 Provide PPE to all workers including safety helmet, safety shoe,
vest, ear protector, etc.
6.8 Inspect all machinery at site and ensure that it has competent
certificate and is safe to operate.
