TODAY'S MARKET COMMENTARY

DSEX, the capital bourse of the country closed in marginally higher though index crossed 4,300 mark after five months and went up by 8.05 points or 0.19 percent at the end of the trading session following increased
participation from the investors. The market opened on positive and mid-session saw some volatility as investors went for profit taking after the recent gains but finally managed to stay into green zone as
opportunistic investors continued showing their interest to inject fresh fund in sector specific stocks at lucrative prices. Thus, investors’ confidence appeared to grow amid positive movement in the macroeconomic
activities like Bangladesh export earnings rebound to record $3.91b in July due to an increased shipment of readymade garment products as global buyers reinstated their orders in view of improving situation of
coronavirus pandemic. Investors’ attention were mostly concentrated on General Insurance (27.45%), Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals (15.88%) and Engineering (8.52%) sectors. PIONEERINS topped the scrip-wise
turnover board and contributed 3.97% of the total. All the sectors exhibited mixed performance today. Among all the sectors General Insurance (5.1%), Life Insurance (2.6%) and Mutual Fund (1.7%) sectors showed
highest price appreciation while Paper & Printing (-2.3%), Cement (-2.0%) and Jute (-1.4%) sectors showed highest price correction in today’s session. Out of 352 issues traded, 155 issues advanced, 123 issues declined
and 74 issues remain unchanged. The port city's bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange also registered upward trend at the end of the session. The selected index, CSCX and CASPI increased by 25.8 and 43.6 points
respectively.
