2.Idenitif the different tools and equipment use in baking.

3.Utilize the baking tools and equipment based on their uses.

1.Motivational Activity

Before we begin our lesson let’s start with a


very short activity.

There will be pictures that will be shown and


all you need to do is to guess what was being
shown.
Do you have any question with the
instructions class?

From the said activity any idea about the
topic we will have for today?

It’s about measuring tools and Equipment


usually use when baking.
2. Lesson Proper

Exactly.

Before we dig in deeper with the tools and


equipment we have in baking, let’s us
recognize the following terminologies we will
encounter in the world of baking.

The first terminology we have is the word


“Baking” itself. Anyone who has any idea
about the word baking?

Ma’am this is the process of cooking food by


indirect heat or dry heat in a confined space
as in heated oven.

What about for the word batter?


Any idea?
Ma’am a batter is a flour mixture that can be
stirred or poured.

Nice one! How about the word convection


oven?
Ma’am a convection oven is a stove in which
a fan circulates heated air through the oven
for fast, even cooking.
Good answer. What about the word discard?
Ma’am the word discard means to get rid of
as of being no further use.

Nice one! What about the word dough?


Ma’am a dough is a flour mixture that can
be rolled or kneaded.
How about a dutch oven?

A dutch oven is a type of brick oven.

How about the word igniter?

Ma’am an igniter is a carborundum rod used


to initiate the discharge in an ignitron tube.

Very good . how about a microwave oven?

Ma’am a microwave oven is a type of oven


that utilizes electromagnetic energy below
the magnetic spectrum
Very good answer. What about the word
mixing?
Ma’am mixing means to bring together into
uniform mass.
How about the word pre-heat?

Ma’am the word pre-heat mean to heat an


oven beforehand or before baking.
And the last terminology the we have is the
word sift. Any idea?

Ma’am the word sift means separating the


course particles in the ingredient by passing
through a sieve or sifter

Do you have any questions regarding the


terminologies we have in baking?

If that is the case let us now identify the
following tools and equipment we will use in
baking.

First let’s see the baking wares.


Baking wares are often made of glass and
metal containers for batter and dough with
various sizes and shapes.

First on the list are cake pans. Kindly give the


first type of pan that we have.
Any volunteer?
One type of cake pan is a Tube Center Pan
Ma’am is deeper than a round pan and with
a hollow center, it is removable which is
used to bake chiffon type cakes.
Very good .What else?
A Muffin pan Ma’am that has 12 formed
cups for baking muffins and cup cakes.

Another?
Pop over pan – is used for cooking pop over

What else?

A Jelly roll pan Mam which is shallow


rectangular pan used for baking rolls

Very good. Next tool that we have is a biscuit


and doughnut cutter. Any idea about the uses
of the said tool?

Ma’am a Biscuit and doughnut cutter is


used to cut and shape biscuit or doughnut.

Nice one! What about this tool that is on the


picture?
These are cutting tools that include a
knife and chopping board that are used to
cut glazed fruit, nuts, or other ingredients
in baking.

Good answer. What other tools do you think


we have in the kitchen?
An Electric mixer Ma’am which we used for
different baking procedure for beating,
stirring and blending.

What about this tool that is on the picture?


It is a Flour sifter Ma’am which we used
for sifting flour.
Indeed. What about this one?
That is a Measuring spoon Ma’am which we
used to measure small quantities of
ingredients.

What else? What about this one?

Ma’am a Mixing bowl comes in graduated


sizes and has sloping sides used for mixing
ingredients.

Good answer. What else?


Ma’am a Pastry blender which has a handle
and with wire which I used to cut fat or
shortening in the preparation of pies,
biscuits or doughnuts

What about other baking tools?


A cake decorator mam, which use in
decorating or designing cake and other
pastry.
What else?
A cookie press which is used to mold
cookies.

Lastly can you give one of the most important


equipment in the world of baking?

Ovens Ma’am! It is the workhorses of the


bakery and pastry shop and are essential
for producing the bakery products. Ovens
are enclosed spaces in which food is
heated, usually by hot air.

And we have different kind of ovens. Based
on the picture you’ll seeing any idea what
type of oven is it?
It is a DECK OVEN Ma’am which are so called
because the items to be baked either on
sheet pans or in the case of some bread
freestanding are placed directly on the
bottom, or deck of oven.

What about the second type of oven we have


here?
A MECHANICAL OVEN Ma’am, where in the
food is in motion while it bakes in this type
of oven. The mechanical action eliminates
the problem of hot spots or uneven baking
because the mechanism rotates throughout
the oven.

What else?
A CONVECTION OVEN Ma’am that contains
fans that circulate the air and distribute the
heat rapidly throughout the interior.

So those are the following tools and


equipment we will encounter when we’re
baking.

V. Evaluation

Direction: Read the given recipe carefully and list down all the tools that you need to
prepare in order to finish the activity.

BUTTER CAKE

Ingredients:

3 1/4 cups cake flour 8 eggs


1 ¾ cups sugar 1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup butter 4 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
Procedure:

1. Sift the dry ingredients together except the sugar.


2. In a large bowl, cream the shortening until light and fluffy.
3. Blend eggs one at a time and beat well after each addition.
4. Add vanilla to the milk.
5. Add dry ingredients and liquid ingredients alternately to the creamed mixture,
beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
6. Bake at 375 for 20 t0 30 minutes.
7. Cool the cake, invert and the paper lining.

List down 10 tools and equipment needed for the said procedure.
