Dearly beloved in Christ,
The words of Psalm 23 are very
familiar to all of us. This Psalm is one of
the well known and beloved of all
passages of Scripture. Yet unless we read
that Psalm through the eyes of the sheep,
we will miss its magnificent message.
It concludes: “Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me all the days of my
life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever”.
Goodness and mercy stay with us,
close by our side, all the days of our lives as
helpful companions. The Hebrew word for
mercy is chesed. It is translated as
kindness and loving kindness. There are at
least five areas of 'miseries' to which
mercy brings needed relief.
When we are suffering the pain of
unfair and unjust consequences. Gen.
39:21-23. Joseph when dumped into a
dungeon because of a false accusation
was given chesed. It relieved him of the
misery of bitterness.
When we are enduring the grief of
death. Ruth 1:8-9. Talks about the words
of Naomi to her daughters- in – law shortly
after the premature deaths of their
husbands, in which she asked the Lord to
grant them chesed. This relieved them
from the misery of anger because of the
loss of the loved one.
When struggling with the
limitations of a handicap. 2 Samuel 9
gives the account of how David extended
chesed to Mephibosheth, the crippled son
of Jonathan, and provided him a place at
the king's table for the rest of his days.
Mercy relieves the misery of self- pity that
often accompanies a handicap.
When we are hurting physically.
Job 10:12 speaks of God giving chesed to
Job, which strengthened him to go on
during the days of intense pain. It removes
the misery of hopelessness that can
otherwise accompany us in times of great
afflictions.
When we are under the cloud of
guilt after we have committed a
transgression. Psalm 32:10 and 51 both
speak of David's gratitude for chesed after
the Bathsheba affair. His sin was not only
forgiven, his guilt was taken away. God
relieved him from the misery of guilt, the
lingering sting of wrong doing.

Salem Mar Thoma Youth League is organizing a (inter Prayer Group) Sports Meet

on October 2 . A variety of events will be conducted based on different age groups. The
Events include Sprinting, Lemon and spoon, Sack Race, Group tasks and many more. The
winners will be awarded Medals and Certificates, points will added to their respective
Prayer Groups. The Prayer Group with highest no. of points will be declared OVERALL
CHAMPIONS. We request all members to take note of the date and ensure your presence
and support with active participation.
YOUNG COUPLE FELLOWSHIP :- Meetings will be held on 4th sunday.
SEVIKA SANGAM :- Meetings will be held at church on all Tuesdays at 10.30 am, at
Thevara on all Fridays at 10.30 am.
CHOIR :- Senior choir practice will be held on all saturdays at Church.
EDAVAKA MISSION :- Edavaka mission meetings will be held on all tuesdays at 6.30 pm
