CHAPTER- 1
INTRODUCTION
When assessing the size of the market, your approach will depend on the type of
business you are selling to investors. If your business plan is for a small shop or a
restaurant then you need to take a local approach and try to assess the market around
your shop. If you are writing a business plan for a restaurant chain then you need to
assess the market a national level. Depending on your market you might also want to
slice it into different segments. This is especially relevant if you or your competitors
focus only on certain segments. Estimating the market value is often more difficult than
assessing the number of potential customers. The first thing to do is to see if the figure is
publicly available as either published by a consultancy firm or by a state body. It is very
likely that you will find at least a number on a national level. There are 2 methods that
can be used to build estimates: the bottom up approach or the top down approach. The
bottom up approach consist in building a global number starting with unitary values. In
our case the number of potential clients multiplied by an average transaction value.

Here is a summary of the steps including where to find the information:

1. Size of desks park = number of businesses in delivery area x number of

employees (you might want to refine this number based on the sector as not all
employees have desks)

2. Renewal rate = 1 / useful life of a desk

3. Volume of transactions = size of desks park x renewal rate

4. Value of 1 transaction = average price of a desk

5. Market value = volume of transactions x value of 1 transaction

Also, the target market is the type of customers you target within the market. For
example, if you are selling jeweler you can either be a generalist or decide to focus on
the high end or the lower end of the market. This section is relevant when your market
has clear segments with different drivers of demand.  This section is very important as it

1|Page

is where you show your potential investor that you have an intimate knowledge of your
market. You know why they buy!

From a tactical point of view, this section is also where you need to place your
competitive edge without mentioning it explicitly. In the following sections of your
business plan you are going to talk about your competition and their strengths,
weaknesses and market positioning before reaching the Strategy section in which you'll
explain your own market positioning. What you want to do is prepare the reader to
embrace your positioning and invest in your company.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Agriculture is the backbone of Bangladesh economy. Up to 70% of the population is

engaged in farm sector directly or indirectly. Growing Indian population needs sufficient
farm product. Farming and the agriculture crops are susceptible attacks by various kinds
of pests in form of insects, fungus, bacteria or virus or weeds and control of these has
become necessary to reduce losses to a minimum. With the green revolution spreading
in rural areas, the demand for both fertilizer and pesticides is on the increase. According
to current trends in world population growth and industrialization, waste and pollutants
are released faster than the earth can absorb them. Natural resources are consumed
faster than they can be restored. According to some assessments, reductions of over
90% on material throughput, energy use and environmental degradation will be required
by the year 2040 to meet the needs of a growing population within the planets carrying
capacity. In the last half of the 20th century there has been a growing worldwide
movement among government and industry to change the way industry interact with the
environment. Cleaner production is outcome this progress. Cleaner production is a way
of looking at what causes waste and then figuring out the best way to reduce the
pollution before it is created. Historically, people looked for ways to control pollution after
it was created while here emphasis on

“source reduction

”. Try to reduce the waste first and then recycle. This approach can benefit the
environment and save money. This is what industries are looking for profit. Cleaner
production is best technique for environmental protection with economic benefit.

Problems are Economical Reduction Of T.d.s And Hardness from Cooling Tower Blow

In the present reduction process with iron powder and hydrochloric acid produce dasda
plus ferrous chloride. The ferrous chloride is the byproduct of the DASDA process.
During the reduction process it produces the large quantity of solid ferrous chloride.

• The practically iron-free quality required for use as a starting product for optical
brighteners can only be achieved with difficulty after the process of reduction with iron.

• In this process, after the reduction, a considerable technical effort is required in order
to separate the reducing agent from the 4,4'-diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid

– hereafter referred to as diamino-acid -- the iron arising as an iron hydroxide sludge

which is difficult to filter and which, in order that it can be dumped or utilised technically,
must be worked up by drying or roasting

• It is a hazardous solid waste

• It reduce the efficiency of the rector

• Due to large quantity of by product it takes difficulty to dry.

• It operates high temperature.

• It reduces the quality of the product.

• It increases the reaction time.

• Due to increase in time period of reaction reduce the productivity of the company.

CHAPTER- 3

SOLUTION
Sample analysis in laboratory generally falls into one of the following areas:

 Confirmation of the chemical structure of the main components and identification

of impurities to help synthetic chemists improve the synthesis.
 Identification of minor components in a product that shouldn't be there (for
example, color bodies).
 Identification of additives in a polymer or oil (for example, antioxidants in engine
oil).

For highly pure samples, analysis by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy
is probably the best way to obtain detailed structural information and therefore most of
the samples that mass spectrometric are asked to analyze are mixtures. The analyst's
first decision therefore is to determine which separation technique will be used: gas
chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), gel permeation chromatography
(GPC), solid-phase microextraction (SPME) or some type of liquid–liquid extraction. For
example, if an engine oil sample in methylene chloride is shaken with methanol, then the
phenolic and aminic antioxidants will be concentrated in the methanol. GC–MS analysis
of the methanol extract makes it easy to identify the major antioxidants in the oils.

Purchase only quality, safe, and effective chemicals, and equipment. Records must be
able to support this. Legible copies of invoices, packing lists, and notices of delivery
must be immediately available. In addition, Certificates of Analysis must be available for
each batch of every medicine purchased through a non-pre-qualified pharmaceutical
wholesaler.
In the past, people used to keep track of day to day business transactions by recording
them manually which was a very time consuming and boring task but now in the modern
days humans came up with complex computer software like Microsoft Excel that made

8|Page

the life of people easy especially in the corporate world where workers have to deal with
thousands of transactions each day and is widely used by most of the business
organization worldwide. For instance, the Excel work regarding Bashundhara chemical
industry LTD where the detailed annual stock calculations of the item list which contains
a series of instruments like burette, pipette, test tube, tripod stand, etc. with detailed
description of their price, code number and date of manufacture. So, in order to proceed
with the calculations, I prepared Received list, Sales list and Stock inventory. In each
separate table unique Excel functions were used, for instance in the received list the
VLOOKUP function was used in the unit section in order to find the unit of specific
product from a random list. For instance the function VLOOKUP consists of several
parameters and there are lookup values where we will place the data cell address we
are searching as in the inventory stock calculation page of the excel sheet we are
searching the product in relation with the product code so for Measuring Cylinder the
product code is CD4 which is in the H6 tab in the item list, A5:D23 is the table array
where the data is to be searched, the values of column 2 of table will be shown and false
because we want exact match.

CHAPTER- 4

BENEFITS OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY, EXCEL

In the modern world, the daily business operations get more and more
complex and lengthy which becomes difficult even for the skilled IT staffs to
run a smooth business production. In order to make our lives easier and
more comfortable, Microsoft Excel software is used extensively by a wide
range of organizations. With the use of these excel companies can deal with
day to day business transactions in systematic, effective and time saving
manner. For instance when big organizations like Lab Equipment Supplier
BD LTD which has to deal with the transactions of several products per day
can easily keep track of their daily record by creating an item list on Excel
and use intricate Excel functions like VLOOKUP,SUMIF, COUNTIF to
accomplish their task in a very efficient way. Microsoft excel enables its
user to organize a vast amount of data in very short period of time and plays
a prominent role in preparing accounting and financial statements that helps
to run the business.

Applications of chemical science have contributed significantly to the

advancement of human civilization by providing a growing understanding and
ability to manipulate chemical molecules. Chemistry controls the tastes and
flavors of the food we eat, the scents we wear, the look and feel of our
clothes and how the world appears around us. Chemical behavior and the
interaction of elements and molecules give us the energy we need to heat
our homes, to drive our cars and to power our lives. This chemical behavior
governs the distribution of the natural resources that we need and industrial
processes required to extract them. In turn we rely on chemistry to turn them

into products we rely on every day. Chemical Industry produces 70000

different types of products that are used by individuals as well as other
industries. Chemical sector is of strategic importance to the sustainable
development of national economies and plays a vital role in the economic
development of any country.   As per the estimates that there are up to 20
million people employed in the global chemical industries today.

Chemical domain plays a vital role as an applied science in diverse areas

that influence human society ranging from economic, environmental and
political stability.  The chemical industry has been instrumental in human
development and products created by the chemicals industry have had an
effect on a number of areas, such as agriculture, hygiene, food, painting and
petro-chemistry etc.

Chemical industry is considered a societal problem solver; it synthesized

crop-enhancing agricultural chemicals to ensure a constant and viable food
supply, helped in the eradication of deadly diseases by developing life-
saving pharmaceuticals and chemical pesticides, developed innovative
plastics and synthetic fibers for use in a both industrial and consumer

products. Over the years the chemical industry has been a vital sector of the
modern industrialized economy.

Some of the high technology industries based on chemical science are

agricultural chemicals, ceramics, electronic reagents, glass, paints and
solvents, metals and alloys, petrochemical,  feedstocks,  paper,
pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubbers, soaps and detergents,  synthetic
fibers and the list is endless with more than 60,000 to 70,000 different
chemicals being used commercially today.

4.1. IMPORTANCE OF PHARMACEUTICALS:

Biological science involves studying the science of life. However, chemistry
is important to a variety of sub-disciplines. These can include health science,
the discipline of applied science that deals with human and animal health,
looking at the how the body functions and using this knowledge to improve
health and cure diseases. The study of pharmacology, determines how
substances (typically pharmaceuticals) interact with living organisms to
produce a change in function. Biochemistry is the study of the chemical
substances and vital processes occurring in living organisms, studying
biomolecules such as proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. Molecular biology
is looking at biology at the molecular level, analyzing the processes that
control cells, including replication, transcription and translation of genetic
material within cells. This discipline also includes biotechnology, the use of
biological systems to modify or derive new products, typically drugs or
foodstuffs.

4.2. IMPORTANCE OF CHEMICALS INDUSTRY IN

AGRICULTURE :
The agricultural industry makes use of many different chemicals. Fertilizers,
insecticides, fungicides, and pesticides are all used to protect crops.
Chemical companies contribute to the development of sustainable crops by

15 | P a g e
Market Analysis of Bashundhara chemicals LTD report.

producing slow-release fertilizers that plants can use more efficiently.

Because smaller amounts of these fertilizers are required, less energy is
used.  In addition, reduced runoff decreases contamination of water systems
and subsequent release of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas. The end
result is a markedly improved means of growing crops.

4.3. IMPACT OF CHEMICALS INDUSTRY ON ENVIRONMENT:

Environmental science is the study of the interactions between the physical,
chemical and biological elements of the environment. For chemists, this
applies to understanding the interactions on a molecular scale. This can
involve aspects of climate change, conservation, biodiversity, groundwater
and soil contamination, use of natural resources, waste management, air
pollution and noise pollution. Chemistry has traditionally been viewed as a
scientific tool which could harness natural resources to enhance our lives.
However, the production, processing, and use of chemicals in modern
society have been accompanied by global-scale environmental pollution,
natural resource depletion, and health impacts.

4.4. IMPORTANCE OF CHEMICALS INDUSTRY IN HYGIENE &

HEALTH:

16 | P a g e
Market Analysis of Bashundhara chemicals LTD report.

Chemical Sciences help us gain understanding on the development reasons

of the various diseases like cancer, help us improve care and protection by
diagnostics and sensors for the prevention and detection of deadly
diseases.  The chemical sciences will be able to answer many of challenges
of the 21st century including improving the health protection and care. Even
the detergents are made up of a combination of ingredients, including soap
and other surfactants. They are used for washing fabrics, dishes, kitchen
utensils, hard surfaces, and laundry.

4.5. CHEMICALS INDUSTRY AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

SOLUTIONS:
The major cause of global warming is the combustion of fossil fuels and
subsequent emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases and
reductions in manmade gas emissions are imperative to halt the rise in
global temperatures and the negative impact this will have on our climate.
The only way to achieve this is through conservation of current supplies and
the development of new technologies. The chemical sciences will play a key
role by helping us manage waste products from energy production and help
to reduce the energy demand of domestic living.

4.6. IMPORTANCE OF CHEMICAL SCIENCES ON FOOD:

Food chemistry is the study of chemical processes and interactions of all
biological and non-biological components of foods. This discipline also
encompasses how products change under certain food processing
techniques and ways either to enhance or to prevent them from happening.
An example of enhancing a process would be to encourage fermentation of
dairy products with microorganisms that convert lactose to lactic acid; an
example of preventing a process would be stopping the browning on the

17 | P a g e
Market Analysis of Bashundhara chemicals LTD report.

surface of freshly cut Red Delicious apples using lemon juice or other
acidulated water

4.7. IMPORTANCE OF PAINTING & COATING:

The Paint Manufacturing industry plays an important role within specific
sectors of the economy because they provide protective and decorative
finishes for many products in various end-use markets. Paints and coatings
are used to cover a large number of products, from computers, circuit
boards, and microchips to buildings, cars, planes, and ships. Construction
sector needs paint for the houses and commercial buildings it constructs,
and the manufacturing sector requires paint for certain products, particularly
cars and boats. Although their primary purpose is to protect products and
make them more attractive, they also serve a number of other functions.

4.8. IMPORTANCE OF PETRO-CHEMISTRY:

Petro chemistry involves transforming crude oil and natural gas into basic
petrochemicals, such as ethylene, propylene, butadiene, and benzene. The
process of refining crude oil leads to the production of a number of by
products which are classified as petroleum products. These petrochemicals
form the basic building blocks for a large variety of products.

4.9. CHEMICALS AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY:

The residential construction market is a major consumer of chemicals.
Chemicals comprise approximately 17% of all materials used in new
construction. Home construction and buying consumes synthetic materials
such as pipes and siding, manufactured from plastics. Construction
stimulates demand for appliances, carpeting, furniture, and paints – also
produced from chemicals. The strength of the construction industry directly
impacts the strength of the chemical industry.

5. CONCLUSION
Based on the discussion provided in the previous chapters of this report, a
set of grand challenges and accompanying research needs were identified
and are summarized below. Although the Grand Challenges are numbered,
they are all important in the context of this report and to the triple bottom line
of the chemical industry now and in the future. However,  illustrates how the
different Grand Challenges (ovals) address the sustainability transition (large
arrows) from the current paradigm to the ideal vision over the course of two
critical time frames:

The next 20 years (2005–2025) of continued use of fossil fuels (especially

oil) as the predominant source of energy and chemical feedstocks, where
managing carbon, reducing the intense use of energy resources, and
educational efforts to promote sustainability thinking will be critical.

In each and every business organization Excel plays a very significant role behind the
success of business performance both in the long and the short run of the business
operation period. Microsoft Excel enables users to get in access to wide range of useful
tools in order to solve their day to day work in a short amount of time and in a very
productive and efficient manner. Without Excel the life for people in the corporate world
would have become really hectic, time consuming and monotonous which may lead to
job dissatisfaction.
