CITY OF BORDENTOWN

NEW JERSEY

Proclamation

WHEREAS, Benjamin G. Moore grew up and lived in Bordentown City with his father,
Patrick, his mother, Amy and his brother, Patrick, and attended Clara Barton Elementary
School, Wm. MacFarland Junior High School and Bordentown Regional High School,
graduating in June 2006; and

WHEREAS, even as a young boy, Benjamin G. Moore showed interest in emergency

responding and helping others and later joined the Hope Hose Humane Company No. 1 at the
age of 16. Training as a firefighter and EMT, he achieved the rank of Fire Lieutenant and has
posthumously been promoted to the rank of Chief. Ben was also a member of the Crosswicks
Fire Company, Westampton Fire Department and the De Cou Fire Company; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin G. Moore, following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the
United States, wished to make a larger contribution to service and chose to join the United
States Army in April of 2009. After completing his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he
was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division out
of Fort Drum, New York in September 2009; and

WHEREAS, Army Private First Class Benjamin G. Moore was serving in Afghanistan in
support of Operation Enduring Freedom; earning such awards during his career in the Army as
the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan
Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National
Defense Service Medal and the NATO Medal; and

WHEREAS, on January 12, 2011 Pfc. Benjamin G. Moore, while stationed in Ghazni
Province, Afghanistan, was mortally wounded and gave his life while in the service of his country
and has posthumously been promoted to the rank of Specialist; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Benjamin G. Moore was often referred to as “the Mayor” by his
colleagues and friends because of his friendliness and social behavior with everyone he met;
and,

WHEREAS, the City of Bordentown has lost a valued citizen and volunteer committed
to serving not only his community, but also to his country.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, James E. Lynch, Jr., Mayor of the

City of Bordentown, on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, ask residents of the City and
surrounding communities to join them in remembrance and recognition of the service of Spc.
Benjamin G. Moore to his community and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country and
bestow upon him the honorary title of “Mayor” of the City of Bordentown.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of the City of

Bordentown and its residents extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Spc. Benjamin G.
Moore, as well as his friends, fellow emergency responders, members of his Army unit and all
those whose lives were touched in some way by Ben.
