A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 8

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

a. identify the four kinds of sentences according to purpose;


b. express their ideas and opinions by giving examples; and
c. construct sentences of different kinds according to purpose.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Identifying the four kinds of sentences according to purpose.


B. Reference: Laboratory Activities in English, pages 80-81
C. Materials: pictures, visual aids, and video clips.

III. Teaching Procedure

A. Preparation

1. Daily Routine
a. Daily Prayer
- The learner leads a short prayer.
b. Checking of Attendance
- The classroom secretary reports on the attendance of her classmates.
c. Checking of Cleanliness
- The learners check the classroom’s cleanliness.
d. Greetings
e. Energizer
- The learners view and follow the video in the TV screen.

2. Review of the Past Lesson


- The learners review the previous lesson by answering the following questions:
1. What is a noun?
2. What are two kinds of nouns?
3. What are the differences between Proper and Common Noun?
4. Can you give an example of proper noun?
5. How about common noun?

3. Motivation

-The learners view about the different use of punctuation marks such as period, question,
and exclamation point. Then, they answer the following questions:

 What punctuation marks were seen in the video?


 According to the video, why do we need to use punctuation mark in a sentence?
 Does it have change in the meaning of a sentence when we use punctuation mark?

B. Presentation of the Lesson

1. The learners are assigned to make a sentence out of the pictures. Then, the learners,
with the teacher, discuss about the four kinds of sentences according to purpose.
2. Every kind of sentences discusses, the learners give their opinions and read the
sentence with emotion.
3. After revealing each kind of sentences, the learners give their own examples.

C. Generalization

1. What are the four kinds of sentences according to purpose?


2. What is declarative sentence?
3. What is interrogative sentence?
4. What is exclamatory sentence?
5. What is imperative sentence?

D. Application

The learners are grouped into four. Each group does to identify the four kinds of sentences,
its meaning and give own sentences by using the Concept Map. Afterwards, two representatives
of each group explain their works. They are given 15 minutes to finish.

STAGE PRESENCE - 5

TOTAL = 25

(The teacher elaborates and makes clarifications, if needed.)

IV. Evaluation

The learners are given a ten- item quiz.

On a ¼ sheet of paper, identify each sentence if it is declarative, interrogative, exclamatory


or imperative.

After 10 minutes, the students, with the teacher, check their answers.

V. Assignment

The learners are shown a picture of a child who lives in the street. They are asked the
following questions:

1. Have you ever seen a child who has the same life as him?
2. What have you noticed in the picture?

As an assignment, the students are asked to do a research about adjectives and its four kinds
of adjectives. The students are to write their answers in a whole sheet of paper.
