Evidence: What will have happened by then?

You are going to think carefully about the future. You need to consider a few
topics and, then, describe the events that will have happened by certain time
around these topics.

For this evidence, you will need to complete two parts. For Part A, you need to
write three texts describing your expectations around some of the most
important sport events that take place during a year time. Then, for Part B, you
will have to record a tape in which you talk about your own future in relation to
certain professional and personal aspects.

Let’s begin!

Part A

Look at the following calendar. It shows four important sport events that will take
place next year. You will need to write a text in which you predict the results for
each of the sporting majors.

The Super Bowl (American Football) Augusta - The Championships (Golf)

Wimbledon (Tennis) The World Series (Baseball)

Now, write three texts that include your sporting predictions for three of the
sporting events in the calendar. You can carry out a little research about each of
the events in order to gather information before writing; or, you can also be very
imaginative and create the whole setting for each of your writings. One example
has been done for you.
 The Super Bowl
By February 1st next year, one of the most
important events in the world of sport, The
Super Bowl, will have taken place in Arizona
(USA). I’m sure the New England Patriots, will
win the Super Bowl next year because they
have had a great season so far. Their
Quarterback, Tom Brady, has had some very
good games during the regular season and the
team has beaten several big rivals; such as the
Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos.
The playoffs will take place in January. I think
that by mid-January the Patriots will have
beaten the Broncos again in order to reach the
final. I believe the Packers, another great team,
will be on the final by February 1st, too;
however, as the Patriots are the most
consistent of teams, I am sure that by the end
of the day, they will have won the big game and
will be crowned Super Bowl champions.
Wimbledon
Tennis, also called field tennis, is a
racquet sport practiced on a rectangular
court (made up of different surfaces,
which can be concrete, dirt, or grass),
delimited by lines and divided by a net.
It is played between two players.
(singles) or between two couples
(doubles). The objective of the game is
to throw a ball hitting it with the racket
so that it bounces on the other court,
passing the net within the allowed limits
of the rival's field, making sure that he
cannot return it to get a second bounce
on the ground and therefore a point. In
this sport, annual events are held in
which they compete either
departmentally or between countries. It
is a sport well known for its discipline
and competitiveness.
Augusta – The Championship
The world of golf is paralyzed every year in
the first week of April by the Augusta
Masters, the most prestigious tournament.
The best 88 golfers on the planet meet at the
Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia (United
States) for the first ‘major’ of the season. A
generous $ 11 million prize pool and lifetime
glory entice golfers around the world to win
the Masters. The greatest, such as Jack
Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer or Gary Player, as
well as more contemporary stars such as
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson or Bubba
Watson, would not enjoy the fame they have
today if they had not won at Augusta at
some point in their lives.
The World Series
Baseball Also known as ball, a competitive
skill sport played with a hard ball and bat
between two teams of nine players each. It is
considered the national sport of Cuba and
the United States, due to its strong tradition
and great probability; It is also played in
many parts of the world by people of all ages.
Baseball is one of the oldest and most
popular sports. The game, as it is known
today, is identified among children and
amateur gamers in the early 1800s. Baseball
in Cuba attracts millions of spectators each
year to stadiums and entertains many more
millions through Cuban radio and television.
Part B

Read the following topics. Think carefully about all the aspects concerning you
future in relation to the topics on the list. Then, structure a short talk (about 3
minutes) in which you express your predictions about each of the topics in
mention.

 Your plans for this evening.

 Your plans for the rest of the week.
 Your next birthday.
 How your life will be different in the years’ time.

Now, record your tape. Describe each of the events you predicted
chronologically based on the order in which each of the situations will happen.
Be as creative as possible.

When you finish your work, send the files to your instructor through the
