The production of high-quality
steel grades requires the use of
defined, intelligent processing
materials.
Modern process management of
steel plants minimizes uncontrolled
slag carry over. A new synthetic
slag must be created for the sub-
sequent secondary and tertiary
metallurgical treatment of the
melts in casting ladles or tundis-
hes, and for controlling the metal-
lurgical operations.
Amongst others, pre-synthesized
calcium aluminates such as
REFRAFLUX® are used for this
purpose.

The use of synthetic slags for the
castable steel arriving at the tun-
dish opens up the possibility
to carry out a final optimization
of the degree of purity.
In casting tundishes, we recommend
using REFRAFLUX® as a slag former
in a so-called "sandwich covering"
in combination with NERMAT®
(biogenic silica).
