1. Solve the following systems of equations by using Matrix method.
x1 + 2 x 2 − x3 = −3
(i) 2 x1 − 4 x2 + x3 = −7
− 2 x1 + 2 x2 − 3x3 = 4
x+ y+z = 4
(ii) 5x − y + 7 z = 20
2 x − y + 3z = 8
2. A cricket team of 11 players is to be formed from 18 players including 5 bowlers and 3
wicket keepers. In how many different ways can a team be formed so that the team
contains (i) at best 2 bowlers and at least 1 wicket keepers? (ii) at least 3 bowlers and
at least 2 wicket keepers?
3. Out of 1500 students of BUP, 540 played cricket, 450 played football, and 312 played
table tennis; of the total 85 played both cricket and football, 165 played football and
table tennis, 95 played cricket and table tennis, and 65 played all the three games.
(i) How many played the games?
(ii) How many students did not play any game?
(iii) How many students played only one game?
4. Graph the solution space described by the following linear programming problem and also find
the solution algebraically:
5 x + 10 y  50
x + y 1
Minimize Z = 2 x + 7 y subject to the constraints:
x4
x  0, y  0.
5. Write the future value of the annuity formula F by using n, i and R that represent the
usual meaning. What is the value of an annuity at the end of 10 years if $1,000 is
deposited each year into an account earning 11% interest compounded annually? How
much of this value is interest?
6. The sum of payment of two lecturers is $1600 per month. If the payment of one
lecturer be decreased by 9% and the payment of the second lecturer be increased by
17%, their payments become equal. Find the payment of each lecturer.
7. A company finds that it can sell out a certain product that it produces, at the rate of $2 per

unit. It estimates the cost function of the product to be $ 1000 +    for q units

produced.
(i) Find the expression for the total profit, if q units are produced and sold.
(ii) Find the number of units produced that will maximize profit.
(iii) What is the amount of this maximum profit?
(iv) What would be the profit if 6000 units are produced?
8. (a) Write the properties of exponential and logarithmic functions and hence find the
value of Log 4 4 and Log 4 64 .
1
(b) Solve the equation: (i) 3 logb 2 + logb 25 − logb 20 = logb x and (ii) 3x = 2
2
9. (a) Write down the slope intercept form and write the equation 6x − 9 y = 27 in slope
intercept form, find its slope, x and y intercepts. Also write the coordinates of the
points and finally draw this line.
(b) An agency rents cars for one day and charges $20 plus 25 cents per mile the car is
driven. Write the equation for the cost of one day’s rental, y, in terms of x, the
number of miles driven. Interpret the slope and the y–intercept. What is the
renter’s average cost per mile if a car is driven 200 miles?
10. (a) Find the equation of the line that passing through the points (−4, 7) and ( −4, − 3) .

(b) Write down the equations of x- axis and y- axis and also write their slopes.
Also solve the equation 3 x 2 + 7 x − 13 = 0 by using quadratic formula
