History of SKIP

SKILLS FOR PROGRESS - SKIP is an All India Association for Private Vocational Training Institutes,
established in 1969, to address the advancement of skills training for underprivileged, illiterate and
poor school dropout youth, young men and women. It was registered in 1969 under the Mysore
Societies’ Registration Act 1860; with a National Secretariat at Bangalore.

SKIP has its presence across India, who are Members comprising of Industrial Training Institutes /
Industrial Training Centres /Vocational Training Centres and instrumental in creating on-the-job
trained and skilled workforce to various industries and enterprise start-ups. Average around 60,000
youth are trained in more than 60 core trades and 120 advance trades, placed in employment and
self-employment opportunities, Cross learning programs with corporates & governments and thus
their earnings have been contributing to the family’s household’s income and has good livelihood
impact in leading a better quality of life. 30 percent of these youth are girls and young women, 50
percent of these students come from rural & semirural areas.

SKIP enhances the effectiveness of these ITI’s and vocational training institutions by providing high
Quality Training Programs like the Management Development Curriculum Development, Industry
Institute Linkage, Upgrading and Standardisation of ITIs to Directors and Principal, Employability and
Career Development Skills, Life Skills, Work skills and Advanced Training of Trainers ToT programs,
Entrepreneurs Development Program and facility, Student exchange programs.

We have been a catalyst in contributing to the development of young students, drop outs,
underprivileged & tribal youths for over the period of 5 decades and marching towards the jubilee
year. India will continue to add millions to its workforce every month for the next decade.

Social innovations are blooming in a world that has become a global village due to the collapse of
geographical and temporal boundaries. Learning by doing is the new mantra for vocational
education and skill development. SKIP recognised the unique position to build young generation and
focuses on eradicating poverty by building a strong degree life through education and creates a
skilled individual that equips them to escape the cycle of poverty.

Scholarship Program

The success of our future society and economy requires getting better educational achievement with
less disparity. Students from low socio-economic backgrounds are a major priority, and our focus is
ensuring to support & reach deserving students. SKIP has been continuously supporting the
deserving students across the nation through the self-generated funds & channelizing it through its
member institutions. This traditional SKIP in-house program has been benefitting 1000’s of youth for
over 3 decades. For the year 2017-18, we have processed 117 scholarship applications.
Institute Development Program (IDP)

SKIP’s annual activity for strengthening our member Institutes in order to increase its effectiveness,
social impact, achieve its goals and sustainability over time. The ultimate goal of capacity building is
to update & adopt to change according to the modern era of training, techniques & industrial needs.
SKIP has been supporting the member Institutes to achieve objectives through following training
programs. Capacity building creates a multiplier effect reaching infinity number of beneficiaries by
direct or indirect means. These training have been ripple for a change in the field of traditional
education and trainings. The effects can be felt in the increasing number of trainees year by year.
Institutes should encourage thier trainers to capitalise on such programs.

Impact of the Training Our Institute Development Program involves values and achieving the
organization’s goals in the most simplified manner using IT & modern technology. Innovative
approaches have been supporting Institutes in improving service delivery quality, via training,
equipment or funding.

• Creating most efficient leaders This process is empowering the organization’s through leadership
encouraging them to experiment, selfreflection, changes in team structures and approaches. This
year we have reached 4,833 students through 67 instructors who were trained under the
employability Skills training. Management development program has trained a total of 42 trainers
which will create a huge impact on the Institutes, way of approaching training, Leadership & team
building

• Independent learning These programs promotes the idea of selflearning & experience, involves
more usage of comprehensible language which is more convenient to students to learn, experiment,
evaluate&participate ineffective selfreflection, and self-assessment. Training programs also creates
and encourages continuous learning, specifically through digital medium.

Management Development Training (MDP):

This Capacity building training has been a part of the project since inception. MDP gives opportunity
for LEAP member institutes Directors/ Principals to update the modern style of working through this
program. Each & every year a new tending topic has been trained. The prime players in the field
KPMG & TML have been facilitating the program. A total of 34 trainers from 28 Institute took part in
the training held at Pune on 15-16 March 2018. The topic for the year are Social Returns on
Investment - SROI, Good and Service Tax - GST and Government Schemes.
M/s. Tata Motors Ltd.

Tata Motors has been bridging the gap of trade skills & employment through the quality of training,
which they have developed for standardised course content for automotive trades since 2013. They
have also build capacity of partners through Train-The-Trainer (TTT) and Management Development
Programmes (MDP) along with providing practical exposure to students through On-Job-Training
(OJT) trainings and industry visits. Following the success of the of the program, TML have introduced
programs like LEAP+ and driving program for this year.

Learn, Earn and Progress - LEAP

LEAP is a one-year training program which instigates to create a change in the formal education
system. This program enables students to earn and also cultivate hands-on experience through OJT
with support from the dealers. Students are also getting stipend which helps them cover their
training fee. They are also ensured job placement immediately after completion of the training
program

Financial Impact Value Creation in the Society:

TML programs have been very helpful to the students in securing suitable employment that allows
them to generate income within the social, family and financial constraints that they face in their
communities and as such their social and economic status has being impacted. On training a total of
741 students during the year 2017-18, a total cost of INR. 45,47,000 is invested. After completion of
the program, if we take an averange of 630 students (80%) being placed, the total income earned is
INR. 9,07,20,000 per annum at an average monthly salary of INR. 12000/- pm.

Auto Tech Fest is conducted for students undergoing the LEAP program. The fest provides a chance
for students from different Institutes to put their theoretical knowledge in to practise. Different
events were held and the students participated enthusiastically in these. Students were also exposed
to creativity, technical skills, design a project and were evaluated on their subject knowledge and
teaching skills. A total of 77 participated at this event from 11 LEAP institutes, who included 11
Trainers, 62 Boys and 4 Girl students.

Training at TML, Dharwad

TML organized also organises special training for hands on experience and Industrial exposure at
Tata Motors Plant in Dharwad for LEAP students.
M/s. TATA AIG – CSR Project – Road Safety Program

This collaboration is extended support from M/s.Tata AIG and M/s. Tata Motor’s Ltd. for Road
Safety Program. Driving has been a demanding profession. Due to increase in number of professions
day by day this program incept to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, stress
management, medical checkups and personal accident insurance. This project is planned for training
5,000 Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) drivers at 5 Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR) at the
following 5 locations.

SKIP Advanced Tech Centre - SATC

CNC & PLC has always been to simplify & automate complicated or onerous tasks for humans, so the
resulting efficiencies could be applied elsewhere towards achieving loftier goals & are the key to
increased productivity. Innovative, efficient and holistic solutions are a must to help the trainees be
optimally prepared to perform their tasks quickly and efficiently. SKIP has joined hands with
SIEMENS to provide a real time experience for students to expose to modern technology and
integrated trainings, encompassing all requirements. This autogenous course has been benefitting
SKIP member student at a very minimal cost & and other corporate trainees at the market fee for
the past five years.

The growing demand for the quality labour has always been on front end, India will continue to stay
young for another decade with a major population’s age being 20-25. This huge resource of young
minds has to be utilised to create a positive impact to our nation. We have bridged this need by
providing quality training to youth through SKIP Advanced Tech Centre. This training has been jointly
certified by Seimens the company who play a vital role in the field of CNC & PLC machinery
manufactures.

QUEST Alliance

Over the period of the 5 years, QUEST Alliance has been materialising futuristic education technics &
a trusted partner for Life, Work and Career Skills to our member ITI’s, impacting over 1000’s of
youths across India every year.

QUEST Alliance has aimed to keep up the instructors at the forefront as they possess driving factor in
shaping the students through the ToT programs. Education serves as the bedrock of our culture and
our path forward; Smart education is the defining buzzword of the current century. Our
smartphones and tablets have made quantum leaps in usability and transformed the education
system. This can become a mighty social leveller, creating access and success for all. Melding new
technology with existing infrastructure to create click-and-mortar platforms can empower the
current generation with job-ready skills. Technology in skill development can lead to lower costs,
higher quality, and greater reach, while reducing the burden on physical infrastructure.

Entrepreneurship has been a must need program due to the changing scenario this can help
students become acquainted with their local working, business life and the challenges the local
community is facing. Activating young students helps them build local identity. M/s. QUEST Alliance
has been a major contributor in creating awareness & training tomorrow’s entrepreneurs. The
fundamental enabler of the strategy is to innovate & implement newer teaching technics adding to
the essences of traditional training methodology. This year Quest Alliance have conducted the
