This must be performed
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03
at a Cummins®
Authorized Repair
Section 4 - Cam Followers/Tappets - Group 04
Location.
Section 5 - Fuel System - Group 05 A stationary regeneration
can only be performed
Section 6 - Injectors and Fuel Lines - Group 06 with the use of the
INSITE™ electronic
Section 7 - Lubricating Oil System - Group 07 service tool, which is
initiated by selecting the
Section 8 - Cooling System - Group 08
feature option "De-Sulfur
Regeneration Test".
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10 service tool will then
perform a timed engine
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 warm-up and will then
raise the engine speed to
Section 12 - Compressed Air System - Group 12 between 2380 to 2450
RPM for a defined period.
Section 13 - Electrical Equipment - Group 13 A stationary (parked)
regeneration will typically
Section 14 - Engine Testing - Group 14 take approximately 2
hours to complete, and

Section F - Familiarization During regeneration,

exhaust gas

800 °C [1500°F], and
Section TT - Troubleshooting Symptoms (New Format) exhaust system surface
temperature can exceed
700 °C [1300°F], which is
hot enough to ignite or
Section AS - Engine Assembly - Group 00
melt common materials,
and to burn people. The
Section 0 - Product - Group 00
exhaust and exhaust
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 components can remain
hot after the vehicle has
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02 stopped moving. To
avoid the risk of fire,
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 property damage, burns
or other serious
Section 4 - Cam Followers/Tappets - Group 04 personal injury, allow
the exhaust system to
Section 5 - Fuel System - Group 05 cool before beginning
this procedure or repair
and make sure that no
combustible materials
Section 7 - Lubricating Oil System - Group 07
are located where they
are likely to come in
contact with hot exhaust
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 or exhaust components.
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10

Note : When the
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 stationary regeneration
process has been
completed and before
the vehicle is returned
to service, the
Section 13 - Electrical Equipment - Group 13
lubricating oil and filter
must be changed.
Section 14 - Engine Testing - Group 14
To perform a stationary
(31-022-001_14-tr-isbe5) Service Tools (parked) regeneration,

follow the steps listed:

1. Prepare the vehicle.
Section i - Introduction Make sure that
the fuel tank is
Section E - Engine and System Identification full and that the
oil quantity is
Section F - Familiarization sufficient.
Inspect the
Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms
exhaust piping
and
components for
leaks, cracks,
and loose
Section AS - Engine Assembly - Group 00 connections.
Reference
Section 0 - Product - Group 00 Procedure
010-024 in
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 Section 10 of
the appropriate
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02 Service Manual.
Tighten exhaust
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 clamps, if
necessary.
Refer to the
OEM service
manual.
2. Select an appropriate
external location to
Section 7 - Lubricating Oil System - Group 07 park the vehicle.
Preferably on a
Section 8 - Cooling System - Group 08 surface that will
not burn or melt
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 under high
exhaust
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10 temperatures
(such as clean
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 concrete or
gravel, not
grass or
asphalt). Any
Items that can
burn, melt or
explode (such
(31-022-001_14-tr-isbe5) Service Tools as gasoline,

paper, plastics,

fabrics,
Section i - Introduction compressed
gas containers,
Section E - Engine and System Identification hydraulic lines)
must be placed
Section F - Familiarization at least 3 m [10
ft] from the
Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms exhaust outlet.
3. Park the vehicle
Section TT - Troubleshooting Symptoms (New Format) securely and make
sure that the parking
Section DS - Engine Disassembly - Group 00 brake is applied.
Set the
transmission in
Park, if
provided;
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 otherwise in
Neutral.
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02 Place heavy
duty wheel
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 chocks at the
front and rear of
Section 4 - Cam Followers/Tappets - Group 04 at least two
tires.
Section 5 - Fuel System - Group 05 4. Set up a safe area
around the vehicle
Section 6 - Injectors and Fuel Lines - Group 06 exhaust, and use
barriers to prevent
any bystanders from
entering within 1.5 m
[5 ft] of the exhaust
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 outlet.
Make sure that
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10 a serviceable
fire extinguisher
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 is nearby.
Check the
Section 12 - Compressed Air System - Group 12 exhaust system
components,
Section 13 - Electrical Equipment - Group 13 and confirm that
there is nothing
Section 14 - Engine Testing - Group 14 on or near the
exhaust system

surfaces (such

as tools, shop
Section i - Introduction cloths, grease,
debris or
Section E - Engine and System Identification organic
material).
Section F - Familiarization 5. Connect the
Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms service tool and make
sure that it is placed
Section TT - Troubleshooting Symptoms (New Format) on a stable surface.
Check that any
Section DS - Engine Disassembly - Group 00 additional fault codes
have been resolved
and cleared. Initiate
the stationary
regeneration by
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 selecting the "De-
Sulfur Regeneration
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02 Test" and follow the
on-screen
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 instructions to
perform the process.
Section 4 - Cam Followers/Tappets - Group 04 Once the
regeneration
Section 5 - Fuel System - Group 05 commences,
the engine
Section 6 - Injectors and Fuel Lines - Group 06 speed will
initially remain
at idle to allow
the engine to
warm-up. This
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 will be followed
by a slow
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10 controlled
acceleration to
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 attain the
appropriate
Section 12 - Compressed Air System - Group 12 elevated speed
for
Section 13 - Electrical Equipment - Group 13 regeneration. At
this point, the
Section 14 - Engine Testing - Group 14 fuel injection
sequencing is

adjusted and it
Front
will be noted
Section i - Introduction that the engine
running tone will
Section E - Engine and System Identification change. This is
normal during
Section F - Familiarization the
regeneration
Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms process. At the
end of this
Section TT - Troubleshooting Symptoms (New Format) elevated speed
period, the
Section DS - Engine Disassembly - Group 00 engine will
decelerate to
idle for a short
cooling phase,
whereby the
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 regeneration
process will be
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02 completed.
To stop the
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 stationary
regeneration
Section 4 - Cam Followers/Tappets - Group 04 process at any
time:
Select the stop
button on the
INSITE™
electronic
service tool
Section 8 - Cooling System - Group 08 monitor screen
Depress the
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 clutch (if
equipped)
Section 10 - Air Intake System - Group 10 Depress the
brake
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11 Depress the
acceleration
Section 12 - Compressed Air System - Group 12 pedal
Switch the
engine OFF.
6. Monitor the area.
Make sure that
the vehicle and

surrounding
Front
area is
Section i - Introduction monitored
during
Section E - Engine and System Identification regeneration. If
any unsafe
Section F - Familiarization condition
occurs, shut
Section TS - Troubleshooting Symptoms down the
engine
Section TT - Troubleshooting Symptoms (New Format) immediately.

When the stationary
Section AS - Engine Assembly - Group 00 regeneration process is
completed, the
Section 0 - Product - Group 00 temperature of the
exhaust aftertreatment
Section 1 - Cylinder Block - Group 01 components will remain
elevated for at least 5
Section 2 - Cylinder Head - Group 02
minutes.
Section 3 - Rocker Levers - Group 03 WARNING
The exhaust and

exhaust components
Section 5 - Fuel System - Group 05 can remain hot after the
engine has been shut
Section 6 - Injectors and Fuel Lines - Group 06 down or secured. To
avoid the risk of fire,
Section 7 - Lubricating Oil System - Group 07 property damage, burns
or other serious
Section 8 - Cooling System - Group 08 personal injury, allow
the exhaust system to
Section 9 - Drive Units - Group 09 cool before beginning
this procedure or repair
and make sure that no
combustible materials
Section 11 - Exhaust System - Group 11
are located where they
might come in contact
with hot exhaust or
Section 13 - Electrical Equipment - Group 13 exhaust components.

Take the vehicle for a
short test drive, and

be reset. Reference the

Change the lubricating oil

and filter before the
Section DS - Engine Disassembly - Group 00 vehicle is returned to
service. Reference

appropriate Operation and
Section 0 - Product - Group 00 Maintenance Manual.
