Unit Rationale

Unit Title: How bad is B.B. Wolf?

Course: Grade 3 ELA
Length of Unit: 27 Days (17 active days of the unit)

Overview:
During this unit, students will engage in various activities and lessons to help them come to a reasoned
conclusion about how bad the Big Bad Wolf really is. We will focus on looking at perspective, and how your
perspective changes the way you view a situation or story; this will work towards the ability to actually answer
our essential question, in which students will use persuasive/opinion writing to support their opinion.
Students will gain an appreciation for different perspectives both in text and in the classroom by exploring the
character of B.B. Wolf and connecting his behaviors/misunderstandings/etc. to the classroom and beyond.
Students will understand that they have the autonomy to form their own opinions, but when forming opinions,
they must be able to give reasons to support the opinion.
We will also work on compare/contrast activities, and students will understand that this format helps to gain a
deeper understanding of characters and stories, students will see that there are multiple perspectives to consider
