Introduction

a. Requirements for positive displacement pumps - reciprocating type are based on API 674:
3rd edition, December 2010.
b. Requirements of this Specification are modifications to API 674.
c. Modifications to API 674 are defined as Add, Modify to Read, or Delete.
d. Paragraph numbers in this Specification correspond to API 674.
e. Paragraphs of API 674 that are not revised remain applicable.

Use of the General Engineering Specification (GES)

a. Equipment design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and supply shall conform to


GIS 40-103, or GIS 40-104, if included in the Purchase Order.
b. Supplier shall not be required to review the whole of the GIS 40-103 or GIS 40-104 and
shall only apply sections of GIS 40-103 or GIS 40-104 that are specified in this
Specification. Requirements to use the GES will be shown on a discipline by discipline
basis.
b. If GIS 40-103, or GIS 40-104, is not included in the Purchase Order, equipment shall
conform to other documents in the Purchase Order.

1 Scope

This Specification provides requirements for the design, materials, fabrication, inspection,
testing, documentation, and preparation for shipment of positive displacement pumps -
reciprocating type.

3 Terms and definitions

Specification.

Engineer responsible for the technical requirements of the item on behalf of BP p.l.c.

3.46 Company
BP p.l.c., an associate or subsidiary, or other organisation acting as owner, purchaser, or
customer as designated in the Purchase Order.

3.47 Company responsible engineer


Company engineer responsible for the technical requirements of the item.

3.48 Manufacturer
Entity or sub-supplier supplying the equipment item.

3.49 Supplier
Entity entering into a contract with Company to provide materials, goods, supplies, equipment,

4 General

4.1 Units of measurement


Add
Supplier data, drawings, documents, and nameplates shall be in the system of units specified on
the data sheets.

4.3 Alternative design


a. Proposal shall conform to this Specification.
b. As an option, basic proposal may be supplemented with alternative proposals, if the
following conditions are met:
1. Alternative proposal has significant process, lifecycle costing, or delivery date
advantage and is a superior product at a justifiably higher price or a product of equal
quality at a lower lifecycle cost.
2. Delivery date advantage alone shall not be used as justification for purchase of an
alternative offering.
3. Alternative proposal shall have equal or greater operating reliability based on proven
experience.
4. Alternative proposal shall conform to the requirements of this Specification.
5. Alternative designs with improved lifecycle value or other advantages may be
proposed, if design and technology have a minimum trouble-free verified field
experience of 16,000 h.
6. Acceptance of alternative proposals shall be subject to audit and approval by the BP
responsible engineer.

5 Statutory requirements

a. The order of precedence of the codes and standards quoted in the specifications shall be:
1. International and local statutory regulations.
2. Project data sheets.

5. Referenced Company documents.
6. Referenced national and international codes.
b. Areas of apparent conflict between documents shall be brought to the attention of
Company for resolution.
c. In the event of a conflict between this document and a relevant law or regulation, the
relevant law or regulation shall be followed. If the document creates a higher obligation, it
shall be followed as long as this also achieves full compliance with the law or regulation.
d. Design, engineering, procurement, and construction for equipment shall comply with the
statutory laws and regulations of the final location of the asset. Refer to documents
identified in the Purchase Order for a list of these regulations.
e. For projects where the final location of the asset is in the EU:
1. Products supplied shall be confirmed to comply with applicable EU directives.
2. A Declaration of Conformity shall be provided.
3. The CE mark shall be affixed to the package nameplate.
4. Components supplied shall be listed together with the EU directives with which they
comply and the rationale by which compliance has been achieved.
5. A Technical File in compliance with applicable EU directives shall be compiled and
retained for a period of 10 years.

6 Basic design

6.1 General
6.1.1 Add
a. Plan shall be supplied that identifies when the 3 year of uninterrupted service period
begins.
b. The Plan shall identify required start up and commissioning inspection requirements.
6.1.5 Modify to Read
Noise control shall conform to the noise section of GIS 40-103, or GIS 40-104, if included in
the Purchase Order, or other documents in the Purchase Order.

6.1.21 Instruments and valves, including auxiliary systems, shall be securely mounted and supported to
prevent damage during shipment, storage, operation, and maintenance.
6.1.22 Pumps shall conform to HI 6.1-6.5.

6.3 Ratings
6.3.1 Delete Note 2
Add
a. If NPSHR is within 1.5 m (5 ft) of (NPSHA) (including preliminary estimated system
acceleration head), speeds shall be less than 80% of those listed in Table 3 and Table 4.
b. Direct acting pumps shall not exceed 30 strokes/min conforming to Table 4.

6.3.8 Unless approved otherwise by BP responsible engineer, liquid end shall be sized using
volumetric efficiency less than or equal to:
a. 90%, if piston type.
b. 95%, if plunger type.
6.3.9 a. Maximum allowable continuous rod loading shall not be exceeded at maximum rated
pressure.
b. Maximum allowable continuous rod loading value and calculation shall be provided for
review by Company responsible engineer.

6.4 Pressure-containing and pressure-retaining parts


6.4.4 Add
Each tapped hole shall be chamfered a minimum of 1.5 mm (1/16 in).

6.4.7 Rabbet fits may be used for component alignment.

6.5 Cylinder connections


6.5.2 Add
Flange bolt holes shall straddle horizontal and vertical centre lines.
6.5.5 Add
c) Threaded connections may be used only if the following are stated on data sheets:
1. Service is nonhazardous, nontoxic, noncorrosive, and non-flammable, and
2. Corrosion rate is less than 125 µm/yr (5 mil/yr).
d) Connections for carbon steel or alloy steel pump casings in other services shall be socket
welded (unless the service is prone to crevice crack corrosion) and terminated with flanges.
6.5.6 Modify to Read
a. Auxiliary casing connections (such as for seal flush, vents, and drains) shall not be more
than 150 mm (6 in) long.
b. Connections shall be welding neck flange and schedule 160 (minimum) pipe section socket
welded to pump casing in any of the following hazardous conditions:
1. Combustible material.
2. Toxic material that will result in death or permanent injury through inhalation or from
internal or external contact.
3. Other material exceeding 150°C (300°F) or 2,800 kPag (400 psig).
c. For socket welded connections, space shall be provided at the bottom of the socket for
thermal expansion of the pipe.
6.5.13 Add
Exception is that piston pump with discharge pressure less than 7,000 kPag (1,000 psig) shall
have flanged or machined and studded drain connection for each pumping chamber.

6.5.14 Flanges
6.5.14.6 Modify to Read
Flat faced flanges with full raised face thickness may be used except with cast iron.

6.7 Liquid end features

6.7.2 Pistons, plungers, and piston rods


6.7.2.1 Modify First, Second, and Third Sentences to Read
a. Surfaces of rods or plungers in contact with packing shall be hardened or have coating
selected to resist disbondment at operating conditions.
b. Bonded coating use and composition shall be subject to approval by Company responsible
engineer
c. Plunger surfaces in contact with packing shall:
1. Be coated with chrome oxide or tungsten carbide.
2. Have surface finish of 0.2 µm to 0.3 µm (8 µin to 12 µin) RMS.
3. Have minimum hardness of Rockwell C55.
6.7.2.5 Modify to Read
Direct acting piston pumps that have tail rods shall not be used.

Add
6.7.2.6 Body and follower type pistons shall not be used.

6.7.3 Valve seats


Add
Valves shall conform to the following:
a. Be disc type.
b. Have seats that are tapered with interference fit.
c. Have lift which provides circumferential lift area equal to through area of valve.
d. Not exceed velocities of 2 m/s (6 ft/s) on suction and 5 m/s (16 ft/s) on discharge.

6.7.5 Stuffing boxes, packing, and glands

Add
6.7.5.7 a. Stuffing box mounting surfaces shall be square with bore.
b. Bore shall be concentric with alignment shoulder.
c. Maximum TIR of these surfaces and bores shall be 25 µm (0.001 in).
d. Gland openings for connection of pipe shall be labelled with metal tags.

6.8 Power end running gear


6.8.5 Add
AGMA gear service factor shall be at least 1.5.
6.8.6 Add
a. For a fabricated enclosure frame, detail design shall be subject to approval by BP
responsible engineer prior to fabrication.

b. Joints shall be continuously welded.


c. Fabricated frames shall be stress relieved prior to final machining.
6.8.8 Add
a. Power end drain shall have steel ball valve. Materials shall be as specified in the data
sheets, or piping specifications, as included in the Purchase Order.
b. Connections for insertions of oil heater shall be supplied and plugged.
c. Heaters, shall:
1. Be thermostatically controlled.
2. Have 316 SS sheath.
3. Have maximum power density of 0.023 W/mm2 (15 W/in2).
6.8.11 Add
DN 15 (NPS 1/2) purge connection shall be provided separate from vent connection.
6.8.12 Add
Drain connections shall be manifolded and piped to skid drain trough.

6.9 Direct-acting pump

Add
6.9.8 Direct acting pump drive cylinder shall have drain connection at each end of each piston
chamber.

6.10 Lubrication

6.10.1 Lubrication for power pumps


6.10.1.3 Add
a. Lube oil piping and tubing downstream of lube oil filter and tubing fittings shall be
316 SS.
b. Crankcase shall be coated with proven rust inhibitor.
6.10.1.4 Add
a. Lube oil pump motor shall be sized for total power required by lube oil pump at maximum
oil viscosity (minimum ambient temperature) and relief valve pressure.
b. Lube oil pump shall have mechanical seal.
c. Lube oil pump shall conform to the following:
1. Be located for convenient maintenance.
2. Not interfere with operation or maintenance of reciprocating pump.
3. Either stay primed during pump shutdowns, or be self priming.
6.10.1.5 Modify to Read
a. Lube oil filter element shall:
1. Provide minimum PRE of 90% for 10 µm particles (β10≥10).
2. Provide PRE of at least 99.5% for 15 µm particles (β15≥200).

3. Be in conformance to ISO 4572, if tested to a minimum terminal (end of test run)


differential pressure of 3.5 bar (50 psi), and sized for clean differential pressure of
35 kPa (5 psi) or less.
b. Filter housing shall have differential pressure indicator, vent and drain valves, and quick
opening type closure to facilitate filter element replacement.
c. Lube oil pressure switch shall be at opposite end of lube oil distribution system from
pump.
d. Supplier shall state the pressure drop for:
1. Clean service.
2. When dirty.
6.10.1.7 Add
a. Lube oil system shall have:
1. Pressure gauge.
2. Temperature gauge.
3. Relief valve (not integral with the oil pump) discharging to sump in addition to
required differential pressure gauge and low pressure transmitter.
b. Lube oil system shall be designed such that bearing design temperature shall not exceed
90°C (160°F), unless approved otherwise by BP responsible engineer.
c. Oil cooler, if required, shall have:
1. Three way temperature control valve.
2. Downstream temperature indicator.
d. If oil heater is required for standby or startup conditions Supplier shall recommend heater
to maintain oil viscosity prior to startup.
6.10.1.8 Add
a. If oil cooler is required or specified, cooler type shall be subject to agreement by Company
responsible engineer.
b. Oil cooler shall be designed for maintainability, with a provision for removable bundle
design on shell and tube coolers, if surface area is greater than 0.45 m2 (5 ft2).
c. U bend tubes may be used.
d. Internal oil coolers shall not be used.

Add
6.10.1.9 Oil reservoirs shall include the following as a minimum:
a. Capacity that is designed to allow for system rundown and provide a retention time of
3 min to settle out moisture and debris unless approved otherwise by BP responsible
engineer.
b. Fill connections, armoured gauge glass, level indicator, and breathers designed for outdoor
use.
c. Sloped bottoms and connections for complete drainage.
d. Cleanout openings.

6.10.2 Lubrication for liquid end and power end


6.10.2.1 Add
a. Packing shall not be lubricated in amine, glycol, boiler feed service, or other services in
which the pumping fluid provides equal lubrication, or if contamination of the process
fluid with lubricant is not permitted.
b. Pump packing shall be lubricated by pump to point lubricator directly driven by lubricator
oil pump motor and shall have:
1. Reservoir with magnetic level gauge.
2. 316 SS tubing and fittings.
3. 316 SS discharge check valve.
4. Locally mounted transmitter to alarm lubricator mechanical failure.
6.10.2.4 Modify to Read
a. Each point of lubrication shall have a separate lubricant line.
b. A divider block system shall not be used.

6.11 Materials

6.11.2 General
6.11.2.1 Add
a. Materials shall be subject to approval by Company responsible engineer.
b. Materials for pressure containing parts shall conform to 6.11.2.1.1 through 6.11.2.1.5.

Add
6.11.2.1.1 For flammable, hazardous, or toxic pumped fluid at temperatures between -29°C and 399°C
(-20°F and 750°F), material shall be carbon steel, minimum.
6.11.2.1.2 For noncorrosive, nonflammable, nonhazardous, nontoxic pumped fluid at temperatures
between -29°C and 343°C (-20°F and 650°F) and pressures to 7,000 kPag (1,000 psig), material
shall be nodular iron, minimum.
6.11.2.1.3 For noncorrosive, nonflammable, nonhazardous, nontoxic pumped fluid format temperatures
between -18°C and 232°C (0°F and 450°F) and pressures to 1,750 kPag (250 psig), material
shall be cast iron, minimum.
6.11.2.1.4 For salt water pumped fluid, material with chemistry shall conform to ASTM B148,
Type C 95800, (nickel aluminium bronze, minimum, with minimum 4.5% nickel).
6.11.2.1.5 For raw seawater, material shall be duplex stainless steel, minimum.
6.11.2.11 Modify to Read
If data sheets indicate presence of hydrogen sulphide in liquid, materials exposed to that liquid
shall be selected in conformance to GIS 36-250, if included in the Purchase Order. For Refining
applications sour service requirements are defined in GP 36-26.

6.11.6 Welding
6.11.6.3 Add
d) Piping welds shall be 100% radiographed.
e) Test procedure and results shall be submitted and shall be subject to approval by Company
responsible engineer.

f) Welds shall have either magnetic particle inspection or liquid penetrant inspection, subject
to Company approval.

6.12 Nameplates and rotation arrows


6.12.4 Add
Equipment numbers, as provided by Company, shall be inscribed on equipment nameplate.

7 Accessories

7.1 Drivers

7.1.2 Motors
7.1.2.1 Modify to Read
a. Motors shall conform to the one of the following specifications, as included in the
Purchase Order.
1. GIS 12-201.
2. GIS 12-202.
3. GIS 12-203.
4. GIS 12-204.
b. Consideration shall be given to the starting conditions of both the driver and pump and the
possibility that these conditions can be different from the normal operating conditions.
c. Motor service factor shall be 1.15.
d. Motor data sheets shall be fully completed.

7.1.3 Steam turbines


7.1.3.1 Modify First Sentence to Read
Steam turbines shall conform to either of the following, as stated on the data sheets:
a. GIS 34-301, for general purpose steam turbines, or
b. GIS 34-302, for special purpose steam turbines.

7.1.4 Gear units


7.1.4.2 Modify Second Sentence to Read
Gears shall conform to either of the following, as stated on the data sheets:
a. GIS 34-501, for special purpose gears, or
b. GIS 34-502, for general purpose gears.

7.2 Couplings and guards


7.2.1 Add
a. Unless approved otherwise by BP responsible engineer, flexible couplings shall be:
1. Disc pack type with stainless steel discs and corrosion resistant hardware.
2. Spacer design.
b. Lube oil pump and packing lubricator shall have non lubricated flexible couplings.
c. Couplings shall conform to either of the following, as stated on the data sheets:

1. GIS 34-503, for special purpose couplings, or


2. GIS 34-504, for general purpose couplings.
d. Vertical placement of driver and driver shaft shall be set to compensate for operating
temperatures.
e. For sleeve bearing motors, motors shall be located such that the rotor is located at the
magnetic centre, if coupling has manufacturer standard hub clearance (gap).
f. Both pump and driver half couplings shall be mounted flush with their respective shaft
ends.
g. Each coupling half shall be electrically etched with item number of purchased pump for
which it is intended.
7.2.5 Modify to Read
Coupling service factor shall be the larger of the following:
a. 2.0 for pumps with four cylinders or more, or 2.5 for pumps with less than four cylinders.
b. Service factor recommended by coupling manufacturer for the service.
7.2.8 Add
d) Non sparking coupling guards 1.5 mm (1/16 in) minimum thickness, of solid plate (not
open mesh) construction, shall be provided.
e) Coupling guards shall be designed in compliance with local requirements.
f) Horizontal and vertical pumps shall have shaft coupling guards to within 12 mm (1/2 in) of
stationary housing. Coupling guards shall be:
1. Firmly attached to baseplate.
2. Easily removable.
3. Rigid to withstand deflection and prevent rubbing as a result of bodily contact.
g) Standard coupling guard may be supplied if in conformance to 7.2.8 requirements.
h) Bolts or screws used in coupling guards shall be M10 (3/8 in) nominal diameter minimum.

7.4 Mounting plates

7.4.1 General
7.4.1.4 Add
a. Mounting plates shall have vertical jacking bolts to facilitate levelling prior to grouting.
b. Each pump and driver support (including gear, if any) shall have alignment positioning
screws in longitudinal and transverse horizontal directions to facilitate alignment in the
field.
7.4.1.9 Add
a. Peelable shims shall not be used.
b. Step shimming or tapered shims shall not be used under equipment single mounting foot.
c. Motors requiring full length support or tapered or stepped shims shall not be used.

7.4.2 Baseplate and skid


7.4.2.3 Add
a. Equipment mounted on baseplate with no machine surface to use 150 mm (6 in) level to
determine baseplate levelness, shall have 75 mm by 75 mm (3 in by 3 in) levelling targets
or machined flats.
b. Targets or flats shall be adjacent to each anchor bolt location.
7.4.2.8 Modify to Read
Top of baseplate shall be covered completely with non skid decking.

7.4.3 Soleplates and subsoleplates


7.4.3.2 Add
Soleplates shall have at least four levelling jack bolts, with holes drilled and tapped for levelling
jack bolts outside footprint of pump and driver mounting feet.

7.5 Controls and instrumentation

7.5.1 General

7.5.5.6 a. Instruments and controls other than shutdown sensing devices, shall have valving to permit

7.5.6 Electrical systems

7.5.6.1 a. Power and control wiring within the confines of the baseplate shall be resistant to oil, heat,
moisture, and abrasion.
b. Stranded connectors shall be used within the confines of the baseplate and in other areas
subject to vibration.
c. Power and control cables shall conform to GIS 12-151 or GIS 12-152 (the version in the
Purchase Order applies).
d. Wiring shall be sized for the full range of expected temperatures for both operating and
environment.
7.5.6.2 Leads on terminal strips, switches, and instruments shall be permanently tagged for
identification unless otherwise specified.

7.6 Auxiliary piping

7.6.4 Piping design


a. Piping design for maintenance accessibility shall be subject to approval by Company
responsible engineer.
b. Elevation of pump centre line shall allow access for piping auxiliary connections such as
pump drains and leak off connections.
c. Oil drain lines, if in Supplier scope, shall have bulls eye type flow indicators made of cast
steel and may use threaded connections.

d. Impact of acceleration head loss on process piping in supplier scope shall be determined.
As a minimum, the system acceleration head shall be calculated in conformance to the
equation in API 674, Annex E, and HI 6.1-6.5.

7.6.5 Cooling water piping


Cooling water systems shall include the following:
a. Inlet and outlet headers shall be at least DN 40 (NPS 1-1/2).
b. Headers shall be horizontal, along outside of pump, with inlet and outlet headers on
opposite sides of pump.
c. Inlet and outlet headers shall have valve at skid edge for Company connection and plugged
valve at other end for cleanout.
d. Connections at pump end shall be within 150 mm (6 in) of edge of baseplate for Company
interface.
e. Feed lines shall be at least DN 20 (NPS 3/4).
f. Parallel feeder lines shall have closed sight flow indicator on inlet side and valve on outlet
side.
g. Unions or flanges shall be provided to allow disassembly, removal, and cleaning of piping.
h. Bronze valves shall be provided.
i. Cooling water piping shall be schedule 40 galvanised pipe in conformance to ASTM A53.
j. Fittings shall be PN 50 (Class 300) malleable iron screwed galvanised ASTM A338
(galvanised in conformance to ASTM A153).

7.6.6 Packing vent piping


a. For hydrocarbon service the pump packing leakage shall be contained and vented to a low
pressure vent flare or safe, venting area.
b. Venting inside enclosures or buildings shall not be used.

7.7 Pulsation and vibration control requirements

7.7.1 General
7.7.1.1 Add
a. The following additional engineering data shall be provided:
1. Peak to peak pulsation at pump flanges as % of line pressures.
2. Suction manifold length and diameter.
3. Discharge manifold length and diameter.
4. Suction valve velocity.
5. Discharge valve velocity.
b. The following information, required for pump modelling in both acoustical pulsation and
mechanical piping analysis, shall be provided after Purchase Order:
1. Plunger barrel and liquid end manifold dimension and clearances.
2. Valve, valve lift, and valve spring data required for dynamic modelling.
3. RPM, stroke, crank angles, and other dimensional information required to model
plunger reciprocating action.

4. Dimensional data for liquid end connections and preliminary locations in reference to
baseplate.
7.7.1.2 Add to a)
Pulsation suppression devices for pump suction and discharge connections shall be provided.
7.7.1.3 Add
a. A design analysis for pulsation and vibration control shall be undertaken for pumps greater
than 75 kW (100 hp).
b. Supplier shall use Annex C.1.3, Analysis Approach 2, if stated on data sheets, for the
following critical installations:
1. Multiple pumps in parallel.
2. Variable speed pumps.
3. Pumps with multiple fluid types.
4. Variable operating conditions.
c. Critical installations shall also include pumps with high process safety risk, such as
pumping flammable fluids at high rates or pressures, if stated on data sheets.
d. Supplier shall conform to pump design requirement of Annex C, Sections C.1.5, C.1.6, and
C.1.7.

7.7.2 Pulsation suppression devices


7.7.2.1 For pulsation dampeners and accumulators requiring a nitrogen pre-charge, either:
a. Design pressure of the vessel (including connection to the piping system) shall be equal or
greater than the maximum pressure that can be supplied by the pre-charging equipment, or
b. The vessel shall be protected by a pressure relief device with the required relief capacity.
7.7.2.2 If pulsation dampeners or accumulators are installed in piping systems for multiple units, the
piping system shall be designed to relieve pressure resulting from failure of the bladder in the
event of overpressure during charging.

7.8 Special tools


Add
7.8.3 a. Pressure gauges installed on or used with the supplied tools shall be in either SI or US
customary units. Dual scale gauges shall not be used.
b. For multiple unit installations, the quantity of each tool provided shall be specified in the
proposal. For quantities not defined, supply shall be one set per machine.

8 Inspection, testing, and preparation for shipment

8.1 General
8.1.1 Add
a. Prior to the start of manufacture, an ITP shall be submitted for approval by Company
responsible engineer.
b. The ITP shall include inspection and testing activities to be performed, including those at
sub-suppliers’ works and shall make reference to all testing procedures, control documents,
and resulting records and reports.

8.1.3 Add
a. Company and the Company appointed representative shall at all times have access to the
workshops and testing facilities, including workshops of sub-suppliers engaged in
supplying material or in fabricating the equipment for the purpose of inspecting the
purchased equipment.
b. Company and the Company appointed representative shall be granted permission to
photograph the equipment in the scope of the Purchase Order during manufacturing,
assembly and test.
8.1.6 Add
Notice of at least 10 working days shall be provided for Company observed, or witnessed
testing.
8.1.9 Add
The quality management system shall conform to ISO 9001, API Specification Q1, or other
agreed internationally recognised standard to ensure that the products and services provided
conform to the requirements for supplier quality identified in the Purchase Order.

8.2 Inspection

8.2.2 Materials inspection

8.2.2.1.3 PMI, shall conform to GIS 36-103, if specified in the Purchase Order.

8.3 Testing
8.3.2.4 Modify Last Sentence to Read
To prevent deposition of chlorides on austenitic stainless steel as a result of evaporated drying
after testing:
a. Water shall be totally drained.
b. Standing water shall not be allowed to evaporate to dryness.
c. Standing water shall be wiped dry.
d. New seals, gaskets and “o” rings shall be used to rebuild the pump.
8.3.2.5 Modify Second Sentence to Read
The hydrostatic test shall be considered satisfactory when neither leak nor seepage through the
cylinder or cylinder joint is observed within a 2 hour period.

8.3.8 NPIP/NPSH test

If NPSHR is within 1 m (3 ft) of NPSHA, NPSH test shall be performed.

8.3.9 Optional tests

equipment can be aligned without interference with baseplate bolting or other appurtenances.

8.4 Preparation for shipment


Add
Preparation of equipment for transportation shall conform to the packing, marking, and shipping
instructions or other documents identified in the Purchase Order.
8.4.1 Add
Equipment shall be prepared for type of shipment specified, including restraint of rotor, if
required.
8.4.3.1 Add
a. Equipment painting shall conform to GIS 06-602.
b. Supplier's standard painting may be used, if Supplier demonstrates painting is at least
equivalent to GIS 06-602.
c. Supplier’s paint specification and procedures shall be submitted in proposal.
d. Coating systems shall withstand maximum expected discharge temperature.
e. Stainless steel parts shall not be coated with and shall not be exposed to inorganic zinc
primers, zinc bearing paints, or zinc bearing compounds.
f. Any machined surface that is not a mating surface to another part shall be coated with
Supplier’s recommended proprietary anticorrosive coating.
g. Non coated exposed surfaces shall not be supplied.

8.4.3.11 Pumps shall be completely drained and dried after test.
8.4.3.12 If specified, packing and plunger shall be removed from stuffing boxes before shipment.

8.4.9 a. Equipment or materials that contain or are coated with any regulated substances, such as
the following, shall be prominently tagged at openings to indicate nature of contents and
precautions for shipping, storage, and handling:
1. Insulating oils.
2. Corrosion inhibitors.
3. Antifreeze solutions.
4. Desiccants.
5. Chemical substances.
6. Hydrocarbon substances.
b. Regulated substances shall have a MSDS.
c. MSDSs shall fully conform to regulations for MSDS preparation specified by entity that
has jurisdiction and shall include a statement that the substance is considered hazardous by
regulation.
d. If a substance is exempt from regulation, a statement to that effect shall be included.
e. Before shipment, MSDSs shall be forwarded to receiving facility.
f. At shipment, MSDSs in protective envelopes shall be affixed to the outside of the
shipment.
8.4.10 Any item that has to be removed for shipping shall be identified with metal tag that includes
item number, part or assembly name, and part number.
