SQL CheckUp architecture

There are 3 components the product consists of:

 Collector Service. It is a Windows service running on a server you chose to be the SQL
CheckUp collector. Usually it is a 24x7 server.
 SQL CheckUp Repository database. The metrics collected by the Collector Service will be
stored in this database. Usually the database resides on the same server as the Collector
Service, though it is not a requirement.
 SQL CheckUp Console. Every DBA in the organization will have the Console component
installed on his/her desktop/laptop. They will use the Console to connect to the
Repository database and see the collected metrics.

There are 2 types of SQL CheckUp installations:

 Server Components installation. You have to choose what server you are going to use as
a collector and run this type of installation locally on the server. It will install the Collector
Service on the server and ask you to specify the SQL Server name where to create the
Repository database. Also it will install SQL CheckUp Console. Having Console installed
on the Collector server is necessary as you will have to set up the licenses from the
Console located locally on the Collector server.
 Client Tools (SQL CheckUp Console) only. This type of installation will be used by DBAs
to install the Console on their desktops/laptops. When starting Console for first time the
DBA will be asked to specify where the Repository database is located and what
credential to use to connect to the database. The information will be stored by the
Console and used next time the Console is opened.
