Introduction
All human being are part of human society and everyone in the society has different
social role and duties. While performing his roles and duties individual faces many problems in
one or the other form.

Case Work is the oldest and the most developed method of solving individual’s problems
and improving his social relation.

Definition of Social Case Work:

 Hollis (1954): “Social Case work is the method employed by social workers to help individuals find
solution to problems of social adjustment which they are unable to handle in a satisfactory way
by their own efforts.”
 Perlman (1957): “Social Case work is a process used by certain human welfare agencies to help
individuals to cope more effectively with their problems in social functioning.”
 According to Warner Bechm,” Social Case Work is a method of social work which intervenes in
the psyco-social aspect of a person life.

 According to Mary Richmond, “Social Case Work may be define as the art of doing different
things with different people co-operating with them to achieve some of their own society’s
betterment.
 According to Lee (1923),” Social Case Work is the art of changing human attitudes.
Purpose of Social Case Work:

 Basic purpose is to enable the client to enjoy with some degree of permanence. More satisfying,
effective and acceptable experiences in the social situation in which he finds himself.

 Essential task is the facilitation of the social relationship.

 To help them mobilize their capacities for the solution of their problems.

 Help them so that they will be better able to meet future difficulties with a more effectively
organized personal strength.

 Bring about a better adjustment between individual clients and his situation or environment.

 Better adjustment in the social relationships of the individual and the development of individual
personality.

 In general, the purpose of social case work is to help an individual client to solve his psycho-social
problems in such a way so that he finds himself capable of dealing with these problems at present
and also may solve in future if such problems arise.

Objective of Social Case Work:

  To understand and solve the internal problems of the individual.

 To strengthen his ego power.

  Remediation of problems in social functioning.

  Prevention of problems in social functioning.

  Development of resources to enhance social functioning.


Social Case Work Values:

 Every man has inherent worth and dignity.

 Every individual has the right to self-determination.

 Every individual is the primary concern of society, has potential for and the right to growth.

 Every individual, in turn, has to contribute to the society’s development by assuming his social
responsibility.

 The individual and society in which one lives are interdependent.


 Basic human needs have to be met by services which are not dependent upon in accord either to
moral behavior or to race, nationality, caste, etc.

Personality of the Client

The Person was normal by birth. He was physically, mentally and spiritually good to
everyone. He was very good character.

He was very free and frank with everyone. But later on he faced some emotional problem
with him and sudden change occurred in his life which the parents couldn’t able to identified the
person behaviour.

The person was very much interested with one of the girl and he felt in love with that
particular girl.

The relationship was going smoothly but when the parents of the client came to know
about the relationship. They refuse to accept that girl in the family.

As a result, the parents decided and choose another girl for his marriage. But the boy was
not happy with the girl whom the parents fixed for marriage.

This is how he was not happy and lost all his happiness. As a result, problem arise in the
client behaviour.

History of Problems
The client was normal and happy with everyone and his behaviour was good before the marriage
but after getting married with the another girl he lost all his happiness. Because he was in love
with his college mate and he thought of making her life partner but parents refuse to stand by
the side.
The parents fixed with another girl for his marriage, which was the turning point in his life which
kept him unhappy with the relation. He was very much depressed and always thinking about his
first love.

Diagnostic summary of the statement

Symptoms:

 Depression, Frustration, Tension


 Angry with family members
 Getting Annoyed
 Refuse to listen to others
 Lack of Concentration
 Not loyal toward others
 Started drinking and smoking

Effects

Long term effect of an individual personal and professional life. An individual gets into
trouble and faces suspension or expulsion for fighting because of their problems.

The problem can be very hazardous in one’s life if the needs and desires was not fulfilled
to an individual. It is very difficult to get rid off from those problem which an individual not
expected to happens in his life.

Causes and Treatment Plan

The emotional stress which such as the loss of a loved one can cause tremendous affect
because of having a long term mental problem which the mental disorder may change the
behaviour of the patient.
Treatment Plan:
 Helping the person how to solve problems
 Family therapy is important.
 Peer group therapy to help better social interpersonal problems

Evaluation
The client was ready to share his problem as he was not able to find a way to do things in
a proper way because he was in great pain and going through very difficult situation.

He was very depressed and unhappy with his life. But later on the case worker helped to
convince him and able to find out the problems and then gave some remedial measure to
overcome the situation.

Conclusion
From the entire discussion and procedures from the case worker with the client, I came
to know and understand the problems and finding the situation of the problems.

This case work shows that the client gets some remedial suggestion and advise from the
social case worker which helped the client to adjust and overcome the situation.
