How to Install Security Improvement Utility 201909A

This document explains the procedure to install to the “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” for

[Precaution]
Before installing the application, you should
- Sign in as the administrator account.
- Connect AC Adaptor and fully charged battery.
- Disconnect all peripheral equipment.
- Terminate all programs other than the program for installing this application.
- If the tablet unit and keyboard base are removable, connect them.

1. Confirm version of installed “Security Improvement Utility
201909A”

Display the version of “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” according to the following
procedure, and check whether installation is necessary.

(1) Displays a list of installed apps.

(For Windows 10)
1. While holding down the “Windows” key, press the “x” key.
2. Select [Apps & Features] from the menu.

(For Windows 8.1)

1. While holding down the “Windows” key, press the “x” key.
2. Select [Programs & Features] from the menu.

(For Windows 7)
1. Click the [Start] button and click [Control Panel].
2. (When the display method is category)
Click [Uninstall a program] in [Programs].
(For large icons or small icons)
Click [Programs and Features].

(2) Click “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” if it is displayed.

If “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” is not displayed, follow the steps below to install.

(3) Check the Table-1. Provided application version list. If the version displayed on your PC is
same as or newer than the table, there is no need to re-install.
If the displayed version is old or “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” is not displayed,
follow the steps below to install it.

2. Download and extract install file of “Security Improvement Utility
201909A”

After downloading the program listed on the download page, run it on the target model of
Windows and extract the file to a working folder.

(1) Double click to execute the downloaded file.

(2) Click [Yes] if "User Account Control" window appears.
(3) Read the "License Agreement", and click [Yes].
(4) Confirm the destination folder (default folder is "C:\util2\si201909a"), and click [OK].
(5) Wait until files are extracted. The folder in which install files are extracted will be
automatically opened on completion. It may take more than 10 seconds until the folder
appears.

3. Install “Security Improvement Utility 201909A”

Run the “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” installation program in the extracted file.

(1) Open the folder where the program is expanded (default: c:\util2\si201909a) in Explorer.
If it is already opened, you don’t need to open it again.
(2) Double click Setup.exe.
(3) Click [Yes] if "User Account Control" window appears.
(4) When “Welcome to …” window is displayed, click [Next]
(5) When “Ready to install the program” window is displayed, click [Install].
(6) When the installation is completed, click [Finish]
4. Confirm version of “Security Improvement Utility 201909A”

(1) Use the following procedure to check the version of “Security Improvement Utility 201909A”.

(For Windows 10)

1. While holding down the “Windows” key, press the “x” key.
2. Select [Apps & Features] from the menu.

(For Windows 8.1)

1. While holding down the “Windows” key, press the “x” key.
2. Select [Programs & Features] from the menu.

(For Windows 7)
1. Click the [Start] button and click [Control Panel].
2. (When the display method is category)
Click [Uninstall a program] in [Programs].
(For large icons or small icons)
Click [Programs and Features].

(2) Confirm the version of “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” is same as Table-1.
[About “Security Improvement Utility 201909A”]

- “Security Improvement Utility 201909A” is an application that renames or deletes files with specific file names
that may increase the security risk, such as “C:\Program.exe”.

(About processing of this application)

- When the target file is detected, it is automatically renamed to one with “1” to “100” added before the
extension.
- If the file cannot be renamed because the file is locked by another process, it will be renamed at the next
Windows restart.
- If the target file is detected when the number assigned to the file name reaches 100, it will be deleted at
the next Windows restart.

- If a message window like the one shown above appears, check the Windows log with Event Viewer, and back
up the files as necessary.

- If the message window says "Please restart now to complete the process", it is the case that the file has been
renamed or deleted at the next Windows restart. Please restart after backing up the files as necessary.

- If the message window appears repeatedly, the following reasons may be considered.
- The target file is automatically created by another process.
- The target file is always locked by another process.
So, please stop the process that is causing the problem.

- If the message window says "not completed because of some errors", there may be reasons such as the
permission setting is set to deny in the security settings of the target file. So please review the permission
settings of the file, and rename or delete the file manually.
