Role of I.T. in the field of education, industry, commerce & general entertainment.
I.T. plays an important role in the various fields of the society, business & economy.
It is a sophisticated tool that can significantly increase the productivity. The role of
I.T. in the various fields of business & economy can be discussed in brief as under:

1) Role in industry: In a manufacturing industry certain stages are required in the

development of a product. These steps are preliminary designing, advanced designing,
model development etc. In the past these were prepared manually but now, I.T. with the
help of computers made it possible to sketch the design automatically. This method is
called Computer Aided Design or C.A.D.Today robots controlled by computers are used
to perform thousands of factory jobs specially mechanical jobs which are dangerous or
boring for human. So we can say computers have almost replaced the manual work in
manufacturing industries.

2) Role in financial sector: The impact of computers & I.T. has been deeply felt in the
financial sector also. One such sector is that of banking . Banks depend heavily on
computers to process transactions around the world. Banks communicate with each other
& sends fund transfer instruction through computers. Computers also help in dealing
with
millions of accounts. These helps include magnetic coding of cheques,use of automated
teller machine(ATM),implementation of credit card & also electronic fund transfer.

3) Role in small business: The advantage of using computers are also available to small
entrepreneurs. These includes office automation application of computer, e-mails etc.

4) Role in education: Computers are becoming increasingly useful tools of education. It can
bring such attributes to the educational process as patience & around the clock
availability
for some application such as routine instruction. Computers are also of much help to
the teacher. New methods of training like computer assisted interaction(C.A.I) computer
based training(C.B.T.) etc have become realities . In addition a student can also sit for
the
global exams online through the computer & get certified immediately. The concept of
online test is rapidly gaining it’s popularity.

5) Role in home environment: Computers have also entered homes in large numbers. Most
of computers are used mainly for entertainment but they have played potential for
educational, household management & household control. Today the computers has
become household gadget which combines a T.V.,telephone & answering machine,fax,
C.D.player & internet connection all in one. Apart from it the computer offers a great
deal of entertainment for the entire family like games.
6) Airline booking: Booking a flight was used to be a long drawn process in the past which
required a great deal of paper work & was very much painful to the clients. Today with
the advent of I.T. the system of ticketless booking has become possible through the
internet which enables a passenger to reach the airport only after a few minutes
before getting through the plane. Here only we have to choose a date & click on one of
the set button & date is automatically entered into the correct place on the booking
form.

7) Railway reservation: The railway reservation system is an invaluable system provided

by I.T. Advantage of railway reservation system is the ability of the railway booking
stuff to build up a schedule on the screen & view this at any time during the booking
process.

8) Hospital information system: Hospital information system has evolved as an integrated

system of order entry system, administrative system & department sub-system within
a hospital. It has become a more & more necessary for every healthcare stuff to use a
computer terminal at almost every days work .Under this circumstances
hospital information system is expected to provide the stuffs with various information
for decision making for better communication environment which can be used just on
the computer terminals for every days work. Furthermore a tele-communication between
central hospital & satellite clinic has become more & more necessary specially where
doctors consult with the experts in the hospitals concerning his/her patients care.
