ACETIAM Viewer Setup Guide 2
ACETIAM Viewer
Setup Guide
It is just a mean by which practioners save, handle, transfer, view and compare original data
which have already been interpreted for making an appropriate diagnosis.
Caution: Stored and viewed nuclear medicine images are viewed as DICOM standard images.
Although ACETIAM warrants that images are stored and viewed in compliance with DICOM
standard recommendations, the user should not consider that images viewed in
ACETIAM Viewer as reliable information as for the dispersion of pharmaceutical elements
inside the patient’s body.
ACETIAM Viewer is a device that receives medical images (including mammograms) and data
from various imaging sources. Images and data can be stored, communicated, processed and
displayed within the system or across computer networks at distributed locations.
Lossy compressed mammographic images and digitized film screen images must not be
reviewed for primary image interpretations. Mammographic images may only be interpreted
using an FDA approved monitor that meets other technical specifications reviewed and accepted
by FDA.
Typical users of this system are trained professionals, e.g. physicians, radiologists, nurses,
medical technicians, and assistants.
Caution: ACETIAM Viewer is not intended for long-term storage or management of patient
information or data. Please verify data integrity before deleting any original information from
your PACS.
Cyber and Information Security
Confidentiality
ACETIAM Viewer can be configured to allow only authorized users to access the application.
ACETIAM Viewer can also be configured to trace users’ sessions and actions. The audit trails file
logs all user accesses to images. The audit trails file records the date and time of each user’s
access to images and action (add, view, edit, delete) on images. This file may be stored on a
remote server.
These configurations have been designed to achieve Health Information Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance. HIPAA requires covered entities to protect access to
confidential patient information (PHI, Personal Healthcare Information).
Integrity
ACETIAM Viewer is designed to display DICOM data. DICOM is the international standard for
producing and exchanging Medical Images. A DICOM file stores in a single file both pixel data
(i.e. medical images) and associated clinical data (patient demographics, exam information).
Thanks to this strong proximity between pixel data and associated clinical data, integrity of files
displayed by ACETIAM Viewer is highly reliable. By implementing DICOM services for i) image
exchange; ii) image display; iii) image storage, ACETIAM Viewer ensures integrity of medical
data by relying on proofed medical data communication standard for the entire image life cycle.
There is no plausible situation where the integrity of medical data displayed by ACETIAM Viewer
could be compromised by a network access.
Availability
ACETIAM Viewer is a C++ software running on Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, on PCs
accessible through the local network (healthcare center). While these PCs have IP addresses,
they are not exposed to the Internet for a standard usage (local network access is sufficient).
PCs hosting ACETIAM Viewer should be protected from virus and cyber-attack using an off-the-
shelf antivirus software.
If connected to a network, it is also plausible that under cyber-attack on its IP address there
could be a “denial of service”. In this scenario, a malicious network device continuously sends
to ACETIAM Viewer’s IP address and denies service to a valid user. While service was denied,
ACETIAM Viewer would not be reachable from other DICOM peers.
ACETIAM Viewer has no access to the Internet or to e-mail, except ACETIAM Web site for
accessing HTML files containing tooltips and software update information. ACETIAM Web site is
administrated by ACETIAM, and protected for cyber-attack. Access to Internet sites that might
have questionable material or expose the software to malware, viruses, or other Internet risks
is not deemed feasible. E-mail borne threats are not deemed feasible.
Conclusion
Our conclusion is that there is a possibility of virus attack that might lead to an availability issue
but that risk is mitigated by the recall of the good practice of having an antivirus software on
the PCs hosting ACETIAM Viewer. Note that this issue is not specific to our software, but to
potential weakness of the Microsoft Operating System required to execute ACETIAM Viewer.
Usage of the proven international DICOM standard for i) image exchange; ii) image display; iii)
image storage, mitigates also potential integrity issues by ensuring at all steps of image
exchange and display appropriated DICOM service controls. Confidentiality has been addressed
based on HIPAA recommendations.

■ Introduction ...........................................................................................................1
This guide explains how to install ACETIAM Viewer (previously called “ACETIAM Open LiteBox”).
The program can be installed in two versions:
■ ACETIAM Viewer standalone version: The program is installed on your computer, and
you use it autonomously.
■ ACETIAM Viewer network version: The program is installed on your computer, and
you need to connect to a server named FLC Server to request permission to start ACETIAM
Viewer. This server manages user licenses. For more information on installing this version
of ACETIAM Viewer, please see ACETIAM Viewer - FLC Server Administrator's Guide.
■ ACETIAM Viewer
■ FLC Server (concurrent license manager for using ACETIAM Viewer in network version)
■ Surething Labeler PRIMERA Edition (for creating CD labels; for the Publisher edition only)
Not all the components have to be installed depending on the edition you have acquired and on
what you intend to do.
In any case, installation of ACETIAM Viewer requires administrator’s rights, and that the
directory where it is installed has read/write properties at run time.
Important note: ACETIAM Viewer should not be installed in a directory with a name that
contains accentuated characters or non-basic ASCII characters (Japanese, Chinese, etc.).
Note: If you are updating your current version of Open LiteBox to ACETIAM Viewer
version 3.74, it is recommended to uninstall Open LiteBox application first. For more
information, please see the “Uninstalling Open LiteBox Application” section in ETIAM
Open LiteBox Setup Guide.
System Requirements
RAM: 4GB
Free disk space: 5 GB (10 GB for CD recording; 40 GB for DVD recording)
Media Spooler is an application used by ACETIAM Viewer to record CDs or DVDs. This
application should be installed on a client PC if the user has the necessary rights (Advanced
edition) and wishes to record CD or DVD media.
Media Spooler can be installed either before or after installing ACETIAM Viewer.
However, Media Spooler setup program is also copied to ACETIAM Viewer application directory
when ACETIAM Viewer is installed. So, if ACETIAM Viewer needs Media Spooler once registered,
it will propose to install it. This also requires Windows administrator’s rights.
You should have been provided with a license file, a software license key or a dongle according
to your requirements.
Note: During the installation process, remember to select the Standalone mode
2. The first time you start ACETIAM Viewer, click the Register the license button, and then
select the license file or enter the license key in the Register ACETIAM Viewer.
Note: During the installation process, remember to select the Standalone mode.
3. The first time you start ACETIAM Viewer, you will be prompted to plug your dongle in if not
yet done.
In the Network version the use of ACETIAM Viewer is controlled by a concurrent license server
named FLC Server. It has to be installed and configured on a single PC on your network. You
should have been provided with a FlcSvr.dat file that contains your concurrent licenses
according to your requirements.
3. Start and configure FLC Server, as described in the ACETIAM Viewer – FLC Server
Administrator's Guide.
Note: During the installation process, remember to select the FLC Server mode.
2. The first time you start ACETIAM Viewer, you will be prompted for the IP address or
hostname of the FLC Server PC and for a port number (6000 by default).
If you need to install ACETIAM Viewer Network version on several PC clients, it may be useful
to preconfigure them. To do this, you need to know the FLC Server PC hostname or IP address
(192.168.0.54 in the example below) and its port number (usually 6000).
2. Beside this program, create a file named DcmLtBox-WS.ini with the following contents:
[Application]
UseMacProtection=NO
UseFLCServer=YES
[FlicServer]
Port=6000
Host=192.168.0.54
CD Labeling in the Publisher edition of ACETIAM Viewer is made using MicroVision Surething
Labeler, provided with PRIMERA recording systems.
However, not all Surething Labeler versions have been qualified for ACETIAM Viewer.
Close the ACETIAM Viewer application and ACETIAM Viewer SCP before uninstallation.
1. You can uninstall ACETIAM Viewer either by clicking the Start menu, pointing Programs,
ACETIAM, ACETIAM Viewer, and then clicking Uninstall ETIAM Viewer, or using the
Add/Remove Programs tool through Windows Control Panel.
2. In the confirmation that displays click Yes to confirm, and then wait while the uninstall
procedure is in progress.
This uninstall process only removes the application files and leaves all the studies, as well as
the configuration files on your computer. If you also want to fully remove these elements or the
registration key, please see the following sections.
Open Windows Explorer, select the directory where ACETIAM Viewer was installed
(C:\Program Files\Etiam\Open LiteBox by default), and then delete this directory
including all its contents.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Open Windows Explorer, select the directory in
C:\ProgramData\Etiam\Open LiteBox, and then delete it including all its contents.
CAUTION: Do not perform this operation if you want to update ACETIAM Viewer. In this
case, you only need to install the new version of ACETIAM Viewer.
You should also remove the license file or the registration key for the current instance of
ACETIAM Viewer if you want to install a different edition from the one currently installed.
2. In the Registry Editor window locate and remove the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Etiam\DcmLiteBox
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Etiam\DcmLtBox
