Wind energy is a major contributor in sustainable energy production. Predictive Maintenance strategies
reduces the unscheduled down time and optimize the reliability of wind energy. Condition Monitoring
schemes deploy large number of sensors and data acquisition from the sensors requires intelligent data
handling and processing. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is an emergent approach that focuses on the
integration of computational, communication and Control engineering technologies. In this work, an
Intelligent multi layered Cloud Integrated Cyber Physical Condition Monitoring System (CICPCMS) is
proposed for wind turbine monitoring. The physical layer functionalities include deployment of mounting of
sensors that measures machine dynamics such as vibration, acoustic emission, temperature for
condition-based monitoring and control systems functionalities. Physical layer interacts with CPS nodes
(Sensors, Actuators and Gateways) abstracts the information and encapsulates in frames that can be
transferable to IoT cloud. Network layer communicates with network equipment and controls resource
sharing with decision layers. Additionally, network layer implements heterogeneity masking to support all
types of nodes. Third layer is decision making layer that process the information and extracts the features
for Machine/Deep Learning algorithms. The novelty of the proposed approach involves automatic fault
diagnostic machine learning capability embed with CPS.

Methodology

Four cross layer CPS architecture for precision agriculture crop management system is presented
in Figure 1. In cross layered architecture the data flows through the nonadjacent channels.

Physical Layer

The physical layer functionalities include deployment of mounting of sensors that measures the
soil properties, crop yield monitoring, variable rate of fertilizers and weed/pest monitoring.
Physical layer interacts with CPS nodes (Sensors, Actuators and Gateways) abstracts the
information and encapsulates in frames that can be transferable to IoT cloud. Automatic
actuators operations are enabled in physical layer and it optimizes the CPS nodes resource
sharing.

Network Layer

Network layer communicates with network equipment and controls resource sharing with
decision layers. Additionally, network layer implements heterogeneity masking to support all
types of nodes. Network layer is responsible for frame fragmentation and to provide data security
and integrity.

Decision Computing Layer

Third layer is decision making computation layer that process the information and extracts the
features for Machine/Deep Learning algorithms. Principal component analysis will be
implemented for feature selection. Comparative analysis with SVM regression and Decision Tree
regression models will be carried over to select best suitable machine learning algorithm for crop
disease detection and pest prediction.

Application Layer

Application layer supports the design of App for the recommendations to the farmers. The
novelty of the proposed approach involves automatic crop disease detection through machine
learning embed with cross layer CPS architecture.
