Greetings,

My name is Cortnée Love and I am a 2nd grade teacher. I believe that education can remove
barriers and change lives for the better. As a graduate of Columbia College I have witnessed
first-hand the doors that education and persistence can open. Although I am a Communication
major, I have a strong background in education. For example, I have worked in the education for
9 years since graduating college in 2010. In August 2010 I became a full-time employee at
Mastery Charter School as an Instructional Support Specialist. In this position, I worked with
students in 7th through 11th grades who required behavioral and emotional support. In this
position, I thrived on pushing students to achieve academic success by setting goals and making
sure that students reach those goals.

Secondly, as an Instructional Support Specialist, I also occupied the role of Math Teacher for
most of the report period I and II, and as a result, I feel that I can tackle any challenges within the
teaching profession. As the Math teacher in MAPS, I grew professionally in the areas of both
classroom management and teaching. As a result, I was promoted to a full-time writing teacher at
the Pickett campus within the Mastery organization.

As a writing teacher, I work with students who have entered the Mastery Schools three grade
levels behind their appropriate grade levels. Within my first report period teaching these students
I was able to push them to increase their benchmark scores by 30%. As a means to make my
students who felt uncomfortable writing in my second report period at Pickett I introduced
journaling within my content team in order to foster students analytical, processing, organizing,
and critical thinking abilities. During my End of Year Conversation the administrative team
congratulated me on increasing my student’s benchmarks by 30%.

My experience is extremely diverse, yet I am always open to learning new things and being
coached as a lifelong learner I believe that learning and professional development never stop.
After nine years of working as an educator, I realize the importance of literacy in the lives of
students and I want to begin working to help teachers more efficiently equip students for success.

With my background as an educator I have honed all the skills necessary to push students to
academic excellence. In my constant pursuit of excellence, I have embarked upon graduate level
studies at Drexel University in order to earn a Masters degree in Education. I am a diligent
practitioner who believes that there are infinite possibilities for learning and that all students can
and will learn.

Sincerely,
Cortnée Love
