1 INFRA Monitoring system
This manual describes both the Infra Master and the Infra Mini.
Differences between the products are described at respective section.

INFRA monitoring system is based on a model where the sensors of

the system concist of include analog signal processing, analog to
digital conversion, digital signal processing and logic which makes
the sensor unit function as a node in a “sensor network”. The node is
connected to a network cabling system, which provides both power
and digital communication.

This system approach look much like your office LAN, where the
sensors are the “work stations” and the Infra Master is the data and
communications “server”.

This system approach differs in many ways compared to most other

monitoring systems:
Nodes use digital communication, only.
All nodes have unique identities, and important information for
traceability etc. will follow the data at all times.
All nodes have their own electronics, which makes calibration
simple. Only the node has to be sent to calibration.
16 nodes can be used in one sensor network.
The Infra Master has no measuring electronics, and needs no
calibration.
All nodes are connected using a single type of cable.
The nodes are powered from the network

This makes the system very robust and flexible.

2 Master unit / Infra Master / Infra Mini

2.1 The enclosure

The enclosure is a case from the manufacturer “PeliCase”. It is
extremely robust and tough. The case has a “GoreTex” membrane,
pressure-equalizing vent to keep the inside dry. The vent is
waterproof even if the case is fully submerged.
When the case is opened, the front panel is also water proofed using
o-rings and IP67 specified keyboard buttons etc.
All connectors are placed on one side of the case.
A 7-pole plastic connector is used for the connection of the battery
charger (or solar panel). This connector is also used for
communications options, like PSTN modem, etc.
A TNC connector is used if an external GSM antenna needs to be
used (internal antenna cables must be rewired using connectors
inside the case for this function)
Two round metallic bus connectors are used for connection of the
Infra nodes. Both connectors have the same function and permit the
bus cable system to be installed in two directions. If only one
direction is used, a “terminator” plug must be placed in the empty
connector.

Battery connector:
Amphenol: C16-1 09-4228-00-07, lid: C16-1 08-2302-000-000
Pin 1&2 Battery charger + (Lead-Acid max. 1.5A)
Pin 7 Battery charger -

Infra Mini:
One “terminator” is build- in. Only one bus connector exists on
the enclosure.
No GSM antenna is built-in. The TNC connector and an external
GSM antenna are always used.
Battery connector:
Pin 2 External power + (>12V) (disconnects internal
battery)
Pin 7 External power -

2.2 Keyboard

There are four keyboard buttons to run the system. Their normal
functions are marked on the front panel. They are sometimes used as
“function” buttons. The LCD will show the function of the buttons in
these cases. The system can be roughly rebooted by first pressing all
four buttons, and then, within six seconds, press F1 and F2.

2.3 LCD

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) has four, 20 characters wide,

rows.
The keyboard and the LCD is used for Master and node settings. The
contrast of the LCD can be adjusted, but this is normally not needed
(see 3.1.10)

2.4 GSM modem

A triple band GSM/GPRS modem is built-in the Infra Master.

2.5 GSM antenna

An antenna, which looks as a hockey puck, is mounted on the plastic

case. If the GSM radio signal strength is too low, an external antenna
can be used after rewiring of the coaxial cables inside the case.
Often, it’s enough to use a simple antenna if it can be placed in a
better position than the case. In extreme cases, a directional antenna
may be needed. Do NOT use a directional antenna if not needed. The
radio signal will reach more than one base station, which will upset
the GSM infrastructure. Also, do not use unnecessarly long antenna
cables. The signal will be attenuated approx. one dB per meter cable
(loss of 3 dB is the same as halving the signal power).

Infra Mini:
No GSM antenna is built-in. The TNC connector and an external
GSM antenna are always used.

2.6 SIM card, GSM subscription, Internet access
A SIM card must be inserted into the Infra Master for the GSM
function. The SIM card must have an active GSM subscription,
preferably with GPRS access. If GPRS is not available, the
subscription must have a service active for data communication and
Internet access. Only”terminal-initiated” data communication is
needed. A data server is also needed for data files sent by the Infra
Master. This can be a simple web hosting account, accessed through
the FTP protocol. Read more about this later in this manual.

2.7 Battery

2.7.1 Infra Master battery

The battery is placed below the lower part of the front panel.
The lead-acid battery has a capacity of 12 Volts and 10 Ah
(AmpereHours).
The battery can be charged in-place using an external charger,
connected to the 7- pole plastic connector.
The internal battery cabling has two connectors, which admits a
fully charged battery to be connected before the empty battery is
disconnected. This makes it possible to replace the battery
without shutting down the system. Both batteries must have
their own short cable attached to make this possible.
The charger can be attached to the Infra Master while REG is
running.
Low battery indication is set below 11.25V, and reset at 11.80V.
If the SMS-service function is configured through InfraRemote,
a warning SMS is sent on low battery. Registration is stopped at
10.90V, and will not be restarted automatically, after
replacement of the battery.

Important!
If an external battery is used, the internal battery must be
disconnected.
When battery is removed from the Infra Master, e.g. for
charging at the office. Do not remove the cable attached to
the battery. The “flat terminals” will be worn-out and affect
system stability. Instead, please buy an extra battery cable
for each extra battery used. (Sigicom art.no. 080-01610-0).
The connector of Sigicom battery chargers adapts directly
to the “high quality” connector of the battery cable.

Manual

2.7.2 Infra Mini battery

The battery cartridge must be equipped with six high quality

LR20 alkaline batteries. All six batteries must be of the same
manufacturer, type, age, and preferably, also same production
batch, to give best battery performance.
The power electronics transforms the battery voltage to simulate
the lead-acid battery, originally used by the system, and also
needed by the nodes. This simulated voltage is the one presented
in the LCD.
Alkaline batteries suffer from voltage drop at high loads, e.g.
GSM communication, especially at low temperatures. Also, the
voltage will recover at a lower load. Because of this, when the
voltage is below 12.6V, the lowest voltage measured during the
drop is presented in the LCD, SMS and other status. The present
voltage can be presented in the LCD by pressing F2(More) in
the battery menu.
The power electronics includes some large capacitors to
minimize the voltage drop, and also makes it possible to replace
the batteries without shutting down the system. Keep the LCD
and GSM off while replacing batteries to lower the battery
current and replace one battery at the time. Also, wait 5seconds
between each battery.
The large capacitors leads to two oddities:
The system needs approx. 60 seconds to start-up when the
battery has been disconnected for a longer time.
The system will not be powered down, or crashed, directly
if the batteries are removed. Read the Keyboard section for
a rough reboot if needed or just wait the 15-200 seconds
until the capacitors are discharged.
Low battery indication is set below 11.80V, and reset at 12.60V.
If the SMS-service function is configured through InfraRemote,
a warning SMS is sent on low battery.
To give longest possible battery run time, registration is
normally not stopped when battery is near empty. Battery
voltage below 11.05V is not presented. This means that 11.10V
should be considered as critical.

2.8 Compact Flash

The Infra Master uses a Compact Flash card, which is a well-

established standard as memory in digital cameras and industrial
computers.
The card type must be of”Industrial Grade”. This ensures full
temperature range and data redundancy in tough environments. Non
“Industrial Grade” cards are more optimized for price and size, and
are more prone to file system crashes.
The file system is Windows compatible and can be read on most
modern PC’s.
On cards larger than 64MBytes, please, reformat the card to
“FAT32” before use in Infra Master. The system stores a large
amount of small files to the card and “FAT16” limits the maximum
number of files on the card.
Data files to be sent to the data server are stored in a “spool”
directory. When sent, the files are removed from the directory.

Note!
Do not remove the Compact Flash card while the Infra Master is
running.

3 Menu system

Most menus have a similar behavior. F2 is used to select a menu or

get into change mode. The arrows are used to find the proper setting
and F2 is then used again to save the new setting.

In REG ON mode, most of the settings can not be changed.

F1 can be used to exit the change mode or to cancel an ongoing

change.

If not in change mode, DOWN is used to go to the next menu.

For convenience, limits, resolution etc. is defined by hard-coded

values in the nodes.

Generally, when node data is presented, and the node does not
respond properly, this is presented as “Node problem”.
If the Infra Master is in REG ON, and the node has not responded for
approx. 3 minutes, the node is presented as “Node lost”. It will still
be possible to browse through the other nodes attached to the Infra
Master.

3.10 Node / Sensors
The nodes can be of the type “dynamic”(vibration, air blast etc.),
which record both interval-maximum and transients, or “static”
(temperature, water level etc.) which only record samples at selected
intervals.

There are three abbreviations displayed in the LCD:

Nxx: Node number in the network
Sxx: Standard number (i.e. S30, BS 7385, 250mm/s 1-300Hz)
Cxx: Channel of the standard (usually only one)

All node settings are saved in the node. The settings will not be lost
when the node is disconnected from the network.

The range of each setting is dependent of node type, standard and

channel.

1Back  2Edit

For “dynamic” nodes (vibration, air blast etc.), “upper threshold” is

the threshold level for recording of a transient file.
Most “static” nodes (temperature, water level etc.) also have a
“lower threshold”. After reading of an interval value outside one of
the thresholds, an “interval event” is created. The system will make a
data connection, and if configured, also send a SMS to selected
recipients. At least one reading within the thresholds is needed
before a new “interval event” can happen.

Is a threshold set to OFF, it will not be used by the node. The node
can still be triggered by other “dynamic” nodes, or be manually
triggered through the menu system.

Press F2 (Edit) to enable changing of the ON/OFF parameter. Press

F2 (Next) to enable changing of the threshold parameter. Use F2
(Save) to save both parameters.

4. Cabling system

The Infra system with sensors as nodes in a digital network leads to

some specific characteristics:
The Infra bus is based on a main cable (trunk line) which passes
all nodes. The cable both supplies power to the nodes and
transfers digital communication signals.
Using the two bus connectors on the Infra Master, the main
cable can be installed in two directions.
To connect a node to the main cable, a T-port is mounted on the
node and the main cable connects through the T-port. Or, a T-
or Y-port can be connected to the main cable and a drop cable
is placed between the port and the node.
Maximum length of a drop cable is 6 meters.
No “star” networks are allowed with total cable lengths of
more than 6 meters.
Maximum total cable length is 500 meters.
Normally, the main cable must be terminated in both ends
using a “terminator” plug (and T/Y-ports). If the bus is only
installed in one direction, a “terminator” plug can be connected
directly in the other free connector of the Infra Master.
For the special case of total cable length of less than 6 meters,
only one “terminator” plug is needed. This means that the node
can be installed using a short drop cable without a “terminator”
plug if there is a “terminator” plug installed at the Infra Master.
Note! The Infra Master must be in REG OFF mode and LCD
OFF during installation of the nodes. The Infra Master only
searches for nodes at startup.

5. Data files

Data is stored on a Compact Flash card. Format as FAT32 if

card is larger than 64MBytes.
Note! ”Industrial Grade” is strongly recommended.
Since January 2006, systems are delivered with Silicon Systems
(SSD-C64MI-3012) or larger cards. Previously delivered
Sandisk cards are not in production anymore.
Cards up to 1Gbytes have been tested without problems, but
system startup time is longer if there is a lot of data on the
memory card.
Note! Turn the Infra Master completely OFF, before
removing/inserting the memory card.
The memory card is accessable if the battery lid is removed and
the battery is lifted. Be careful not to damage the memory card
socket when removing/installing the card.

5.1 File types

Event files (.log)

Transient files (.transient)
Interval files (.interval)

These files are handled in a special way when a connection to the

data server is initiated. The current file is closed and moved to the
“spool” directory, and a new file is opened for future data storage.

This methode minimizes the amount of data that is sent to the data
server (over GSM/GPRS), because no data is sent more than once to
the server.

The data file naming conventions is: ”X_S_C_L_T.interval”

”X_S_C_L_T.transient”
Example: “V10_110_1_12_0733b551.interval”
”INFRA_S_0_L_T.log”
Example: “INFRA_178_0_101_0dedff51.log”

X is the type of node (e.g.V10)

S is the node/master serial number
C is channel of the standard, let
L is the file sequence number since REG ON
T is the file create date/time in number of seconds since 2000-01-01
in hexadecimal characters.

Manual
40 Copyright ©Sigicom AB 2003-2009
5.2 Data storage on Compact Flash

All data files are stored in a structure according the following:

”\data\M\N\R_L”. M is the serial number of the Infra Master, N
states the number of the network, R states the start time of the
registration period and L states the number of the registration
period.
Open files are stored in the sub directory ”current”. After a file
has been closed, it is first copied to the “\data\spool” directory to
be sent at next data server connection, and then moved to the
sub directory ”archive” for backup.
During the data server connection, files, which have been
successfully sent, from the “\data\spool” directory are removed.
If manual reading of files is needed (e.g. after GSM problems),
only files in “\data\spool” need to be copied to the data server
and then removed.
The archive directories must be manually deleted. Otherwise the
memory card will eventually become full. Check the directories
creatation date to decide which directories to delete. If unsure,
check in the post-processing system for missing data before
deleting any files on the memory card.
If backup of the memory card is needed before deleting it, first
remove all files in the “\data\spool” directory. Then copy the
“\data” directory including all sub directories to the backup unit
data directory. The file structure, including the Infra Master
serial number, will help keep the data file structure.

5.3 Handling of Compact Flash (CF)

Stationary PCs:
Most modern PCs have a memory card reader built-in, but some
PCs need an external memory card reader.

Laptop PCs:
Most laptops have at least one PC-card slot (PCMCIA/Cardbus).
In this case, a PC-card to CompactFlash adapter can be used.
An external card reader connected to an USB-port is also
possible to use.

Manual
42 Copyright ©Sigicom AB 2003-2009
5.4 Event files (.log)

During registration, event files are always written with information

about the system (not only errors). This information can be used for
troubleshooting in case of problems. These files are sent to the data
server and can be read using an ordinary text editor (e.g. Notepad)

Node events:
Reg Start
“Dynamic” node trig or “static” node value outside threshold.
Node lost
Errors during file transfer

Master events:
Reg On
Reg Off
GSM connection information (SIM ID, signal strength, errors
etc.)
Low battery voltage
Low on free memory

During further development of the system, more event types are

added.

Manual

5.5 Transient files

All “Dynamic” nodes in the system store a transient file if a node is

triggered. Length of the transient is setup before REG is started.

The transient file data is stored in a binary format. The file header
includes full information about the sensor element, internal
electronics, standard used etc. This method enables more advanced
post processing.

Example:
The file from a geophone node always has an unprocessed frequency
range of 0.5-500Hz. During normal presentation, the post processing
software applicate the same standard filtering which was used for the
interval values and the trig detector at the recording time. But, if
wanted, the operator can override the default setting and apply other
standard’s filtering. The post processing software includes the all the
same standard alogrithms as the node uses, but can also include
“virtual” standards, which don’t exist in the node or standards under
development.

Manual
44 Copyright ©Sigicom AB 2003-2009
5.6 Interval files

Interval files contain data samples, which represent a time interval.

”Dynamic” nodes (e.g. geophone) store the maximum value during
the interval time (e.g. two minutes). “Static” nodes normally store a
snapshot of the monitored signal. The interval time is individually
adjustable for all nodes in the system.

The interval files also contain important additional parameters for

traceability and post processing purposes:
Time of measurement/interval time
Node identity
Calibration data
Standard used for measurement
Data quantity (e.g. Velocity)
Data unit (e.g. mm/s)
Presentation control (resolution, no. of significant digits)
REG start/stop flags
Overload flags

6. Automatic data transfer through GSM/Internet

6.1 Concept of data transfer

All files, which are stored on the memory card (Compact Flash), can
also be sent to data server through GSM/Internet when:
GSM modem is activated
A transient file is crrated form a “dynamic” node
A “static” node has seen a value outside its thresholds
Low battery or network problems are discovered
Manually forced by the operator
REG is turned ON or OFF
Time has reached a scheduled time

The files are sent to a data server available through the Internet,
where the system operator or post-processing application easily can
access them.

The Infra system uses the Internet protocols PPP and TCP/IP for the
access to the Internet, and FTP to transfer files to the data server.
These protocols are industry standard and supported worldwide.

Note!
Check that the FTP server supports passive FTP mode and has a
public and static IP address.

The data server can be built in many ways:

In-house server (large systems)
Co-located server (large and medium sized systems)
A simple web site placed at a web host(small systems)
Account rented from Sigicom (co-located server/Web server)

The first two alternatives need special knowledge and are not
discussed here.

PPP = Point to Point Protocol

TCP/IP = Transport Control Protocol / Internet Protocol
FTP = File Transfer Protocol
Manual
46 Copyright ©Sigicom AB 2003-2009
6.2 Web host as data server
The solution of using a web host as the data server is cheap and
simple to maintain. Cost can be as low as €3 per month.
The space needs is relatively low, and is determinated by the number
of nodes used in the system and the time between fetching and
deleting files.
A rough estimate is maximum 100kB per day and node if the node
records only 30 seconds of transients per day.

Example: 12 nodes and data fetching once per week results in a

space need of approx. 10MBytes.

Note! When no post processing application (e.g. InfraWorx) is used,

data files must be deleted manually after data fetching.

No special application is needed on the Web site to show the files

using a Web browser, but in some cases a simple script file is
needed.

6.3 Web hosting account

Requirements of the Web host operator:

Accessable through the FTP protocol.
(Daily backup of data files)
Possibility to list/access non HTML files using a Web browser
Information of the Web server software, version and
documentation of how to write a script to modify the listing of
non HTML files.
(Information how to write a script for the protection of
unauthorized listing of data files)

Note! If no listing using a Web browser is needed, the last three

requirements are not needed.

Required information from the Web host:

IP address or host name (e.g. www.myhost.net) to the Web site
FTP user name
FTP password

6.4 Preparation of the data server (FTP/Web server)

The person who is responsible for the Infra system operation

needs to have an FTP client installed on the PC. There are a
number of FTP clients available, both free and commercial. For
limited use, a “network place” can be setup in MS Windows
Create a bookmark to the data server in the FTP client.
Connect to the data server. Create a sub directory where the
Infra Master data is to be stored. Also, read the remote section
and create a “remote” sub directory.
If needed, config the web server to show the data files.
If needed, config the web server to protect from unauthorized
listing of data files.
Setup the data account to full file access (create, remove,
rename and overwrite).

6.5 GSM service subscription

If the GSM function is to be used, a GSM service subscription is

needed for each Infra Master.

The subscription must include ”terminal initiated” GSM data, or

GPRS, which gives significantly lower costs for the communication.

Incoming data communication is not needed in the GSM

subscription.

Please, do not use a “secondary” SIM card connected to a service

subscription. These sometimes give problems.

Requirements of the GSM operator:

GSM data, “terminal initiated”
GPRS (lower costs)
SIM card
Phone number of the subscription

Manual
50 Copyright ©Sigicom AB 2003-2009
6.6 Access to the Internet

Subscription for Internet access can be ordered form a specialized

Internet Service Provider (ISP), but it’s strongly recommended using
the GSM operator as the Internet operator. This is usually more
stable and also gives faster connections to the Internet. This is
because the GSM operator doesn’t need any physical modem pools
to connect GSM modems to the Internet. If GSM data (not GPRS) is
used, the GSM operator often supports fast connections
through”V110”, which saves connection time.

Data traffic using the protocol FTP must not be blocked.

Requirements of the Internet operator:

Public IP address
No blocking of HTTP/FTP-protocols.
Phone number to the modem pool if GSM data is to be used, or
“APN” name if GPRS is to be used.
Information if V110 connection is possible (GSM data only)
PPP user name
PPP password

6.7 Parameters for GSM connection
On the Compact Flash card, a number of config files have to be
setup to get the GSM function to work. These files must be
stored in the “\config” subdirectory
There is one file for each parameter. Only the first row in the
files is used. It’s recommended to start all comments with a “#”
Note! Some parameters, e.g. passwords are case sensitive
The file”dialcmd.txt” defines the dialing command and phone
number to the Internet operator.
Examples:
“atdi074567678” #GSM data using “V110”
”atd074567890” #GSM data without “V110”
”at+cgdcont=1,"IP","APN";d*99**PPP*1#” # GPRS
connection, Swedish Telia uses APN=”online.telia.se”
APN = ”Access Point Name”
The file ”ppplogin.txt” defines the PPP user name to the Internet
operator. Can be left empty for many operators when using
GPRS (no file needed for those cases).
The file ”ppppasswd.txt” defines the PPP password to the
Internet operator. Can be left empty for many operators when
using GPRS (no file needed for those cases).
The file”ftpserver.txt” defines the IP -address or host name of
the data server (FTP server).
Example: ”231.23.134.12” alt. ”xxx.ftpserver.se”
The file ”ftplogin.txt” defines the user name to the FTP server
Example ”sigicom32”
The file ”ftppasswd.txt” defines the password to the FTP server.
Example: ”sigi43265”
The file ”ftpdir.txt” defines the subdirectory where to put the
files on the FTP server. Note! If no subdirectory is used, set to
“.”. Example: “public_html/infra_files”
The Infra Master also keeps some internal files in the config
directory. Their names start with an underscore character (“_”).
Please, do not remove these files.

6.8 Running system without data transfer
To disable the GSM function, just rename the config file
“dialcmd.txt”. Recommended name is “_dialcmd.txt”. During system
start-up, the text”Setup file missing” will be shown to indicate the
non-standard setting. It’s also recommended is to mark the Infra
Master for the non-standard setting.

6.9 Mounting the SIM card

Note! The PIN code request must be dectivated before using it
in the Infra Master.
Check that the Infra Master is turned OFF.
Unscrew the operator’s panel on the Infra Master using a Torx
T20 driver.
The seal between the panel and the base frame may stick to each
other. Bend the panel loose using the Torx driver in one of the
screw holes.
Lift the panel, and locate the SIM socket at the lowest circuit
boards left side.
Mount the SIM card with the electrical connections faced
downwards and the cut-corner outwards.
Reposition the panel onto the base frame and screw the four
screws again. The mechanics is designed not to compres the seal
more than nessesary. Just screw the screws until its distinct stop.
Do not over tighten.

6.10 SMS directly to customers
After a trig event has happened a SMS message can be sent
directly to up to 16 recipients.
A message includes project name, week of day, time, point of
measurement and values for up to four nodes. If more than four
nodes are triggered, multiple messages are sent after each trig
event.
To activate the SMS function a config file named “smsdest.txt”
is needed. This file defines the SMS recipients by one row per
recipient.
A recipient can be setup to receive data messages and/or service
messages using different prefixes in front of the phone numbers.
“/” - Unactivated receiver
“S” - Service messages only
“A” - Both data and service messages
No pre-fix – Data messages only
After the phone number, a note of the recipient’s name can be

7. Manual data handling on the PC

7.1 Manual reading of data

Manual fetching of data files from the data server can be performed
in the following ways:
By using a FTP client (see preparation of data server)
If there is a web running on the FTP server machine, it may be
possible to use the web browser to list and fetch data files.
Note! Normally there are no ways to delete files through the
web browser.
Most web browsers are able to list/fetch files through FTP. Use
an URL formatted as:
ftp://user:password @www.myserver.se/infrafiles

7.2 File converting program, InfraConv.exe
Sigicom offers different solutions to present and report Infra data.

If only convertion of the binary Infra files to text files is needed, the
unsupported version of InfraConv.exe can be requested from
support@sigicom.com. No special signal processing is possible in
the free version.

For full usage of InfraConv.exe, e.g. to implement a more complex

presentation/reporting system, a user’s licence must be purchased.

8. Battery handling and security

8.1 Infra Master Lead-acid

Rechargeable lead-acid battery, AGM type (Absorbent Glass
Mat), vent regulated, non maintainance
12V, 10Ah
Battery life is limited by aging (3-5 years), and by the number of
recharging cycles, which is approx. 500 cycles at 50% cycle
depth and approx. 350 cycles at 80% cycle depth
Cycle depth close to 100% shall be avoided if possible. If a
battery is left fully discharged for some time, it may be
impossible to charge it fully again.
The Infra Master has in-built protection for deep discharge,
which turns the system OFF below 10.9 Volts. Please charge the
battery as soon as possible if the protection system has turned
the system OFF.
Please, always store the battery in a well-charged state.
Don’t expose the battery to high temperatures, which accelerates
aging and self-discharge. Even at 35 C, the aging is accelerated.
Note! The battery can supply hundreds of amperes in case of a
short circuit. This can be enough to start a fire.
The battery cabling in the Infra Master has fuses in both the
positive and the negative terminal. These fuses reset
automatically after a short circuit. Do not build your own
battery cabling without such fuses.

8.2 Infra Mini Alkaline

Alkaline batteries loose capacity at low temperatures. Calculate

10. Other functions

10.1 Bus-trig off

By placing a config file named “bustrig.txt” on the memory card,
nodes will not trig each other. Only nodes that trig on its own signal
will record a transient file. The first row in the file must be “0” to
disable bus-trig.

10.2 Inhibit transient files to be sent to the data server

By placing a config file named “transientmode.txt” on the memory
card, it is possible to inhibit sending of transient files to the data
server.
The first row in the file controls the modes:
“0” gives normal mode
"1" don't upload transients(save in /data/export instead of
/data/spool
"2" as "1", but also no extra connection to FTP server after
transients.

10.3 Event log file in REG OFF

By placing a file named “masterlog.txt” in the config directory, all

log events will also be written in this file. Even in REG OFF. This
gives all log events in one file, which is helpful while testing new
functions and troubleshooting.
Note! If exists, the file will grow for each log event. It must be
deleted or renamed to stop growing.

10.4 PSTN modem option

An optional board with a normal telephone (PSTN) modem can be

installed in the Infra Master.
The connection to the telephone line is made through pin 5 and 6 in
the charger connector.
To enable the PSTN modem instead of the GSM modem, the config
file “conntype.txt” must be created, and the first row must be “tele”.
Also, the file “telecmd.txt” must be set with the modem commands
needed to make the call the Internet operator (ISP).
Example:
“ats0=0s10=40dt0850610545” Here, the ISP number is
“0850610545”. The first part of the text is modem control
parameters, which are needed.

The “ppplogin.txt” and “ppppasswd.txt” must also be setup to the

values given by the ISP.

PSTN Notes!
The SMS function is inhibited when PSTN is enabled
A subscription at an Internet operator (ISP) is needed

10.5 Remote control by using InfraRemote

Note! For full functionality of the Remote system, the Infra Master
must be in REG ON. This is because the Infra Master does not
communicate automatically then in REG OFF:

At every data server connection, the Infra Master sends a status

file to the sub directory “remote” on the data server. The status
file includes most status and parameters from the Infra Master
and from connected nodes.
By using the MS Windows application, InfraRemote, the
operator can see all status and settings, and request changes of
most parameters.
When the operator has signed the requested changes,
InfraRemote will send a control request file, including the
requested changes, back to the “remote” directory on the data
server.
At the next connection, the Infra Master will read the control
request file and process it. If in REG ON, change of some
parameters, e.g. the threshold level, will make the system, to
stop REG, change the threshold and restart REG again. Other
parameters, e.g. the data server schedule, can be changed
without a REG stop/restart.
The status and control files are named “IMnnn.status” and
“IMnnn.control”, where “nnn” is the serial number of the Infra
Master.
Also, when the Infra Master is in REG OFF, the Remote system
can be used, but the operator must have physical access to the
Infra Master. Use the following procedure:
Request manual data server connection on the Infra Master
to send status to the data server.
Use InfraRemote as described above.
Request manual data server connection again on the Infra
Master to read the control file and perform the changes.

Notes!
To change most of the parameters programmed by the files
in the “config” directory, Sigicom support must be
contacted.
The “remote” directory must exist before the Remote
system can be used.

During processing of the control request file, this will be presented.

Remote control
Please wait…
timeout in 3560 s
Long 1&2 to reboot

Normally the processing takes between 15 seconds and 5

minutes, depending on what type of changes to be done, number
of nodes etc.
A watchdog timeout system will restart the system if the
processing takes more than 1 hour.
If the operator, for some reason, wants to cancel the processing,
F1 and F2 can be pressed for 3 seconds. This will restart the
system.

After processing of the control request file, some self-tests are

needed, which takes 15 seconds.

Remote control

10.6 Clock/Time synchronization through the Internet
The Infra Master can be setup to synchronize its clock to a NTP
server on the Internet (Network Time Protocol). SNTP according to
RFC 4330 is used. The config file “ntpserver.txt” defines the IP
address or the host name of the NTP server.

If needed, the “ntpserver.txt” file can be changed through

InfraRemote.

Swedish NTP servers can be found at:

http://www-v2.sp.se/metrology/timefreq/sv/tidssynk_ntp.htm

Sigicom is supplying a NTP service at “ntp.infra.sigicom.net”, which

can be written in the “ntpserver.txt” file.

In REG OFF mode, time synchronization is performed after every

data server connection. In REG ON mode, time synchronization is
limited to once every 4 hours. If the NTP server time differs more
than 0.5s from the internal time, the internal time is adjusted. If the
difference is more than 20 minutes, no adjustment is done, and a
service SMS will be sent. Also, if the round-trip delay between Infra
Master and NTP server is more than 3s, no adjustment is done. Log
files and LCD will show status and errors of all synchronization
attempts.

10.7 Automatic transition to and from daylight saving
time
Function is new in software revision 1.6.0-1.6.0, and is the
recommended way to control the time of the Master. It can be used
without the NTP system described in point 10.6, but this is not
recommended.

When the Master detects a transition between e.g. daylight saving

time (DST) to standard time (STD), the Infra Master will:
Turn OFF regstration
Perform the time zone transition
Turn ON registration

The time zone offset will be presented in the Clock menu.

Note!
If “daylight saving time” are not used at your location, the function
released in revision 1.5.0, using the file “tzoffset.txt” can still be
used to define the local time in the Infra Master, relative to UTC
time (given by the NTP server).
Example:
“+1:00” #Swedish normal time

To setup the automatic function, two new files have to be set up:
“tz.txt”, points out the file name of the “time zone” rules file
The “time zone” rules file, normally named like
“Europe__Stockholm.tzinfo”
The file “tzoffset.txt” are not needed after this:

Some commonly used “tzinfo” files can be downloaded from the

Infra support page for manual setup, but the recommendation is to
make all these settings through InfraRemote.

Manual

To minimize problems during migration into the automatic DST
mode, please follow this schedule and set all configurations through
InfraRemote:
Install InfraRemote 1.6.0 (or higher).
Turn OFF registration.
Upgrade the Master to 1.6.0-1.6.0 (or higher).
If the Master was set to run using the “tzoffset.txt” file, check
the time and time zone parameter. If the time zone parameter
seems to be OK, set the time to your local time. If the time zone
parameter seems to be wrong, set the time to compensate for the
error. E.g. if time zone is “+2”, which is daylight saving time in
your location, and the time zone should have been “+1” for
standard time, set the time to “local time, +1” (add 1 hour to
your local time). If there are any problem with this, it can be
solved using InfraRemote.
If the Master was set to run without the NTP function, just set
the time to your “local time”.
Set the “Data server schedule” to make data connections every
hour (optional).
Turn ON registration.
Wait until the Master has completed the GSM connection.
Start InfraRemote, configure the NTP server and the time zone
parameters for all FTP accounts used.
Select the Master, and create a control file to setup the NTP
functions of the Master.
Force the Master to make a “Data server connection”, where the
Master will fetch the new NTP parameters.
Wait until the Master has processed the new parameters,
restarted and sent new status files.
Use InfraRemote to check the Master. If the NTP
synchronization fails because of too large time difference, a
message will be shown. This can be fixed by clicking the button
beside the message and creating a new control file including a
request to adjust the clock of the Master.

10.8 Skip file achive to prevent CF from getting full

By placing a file named “noarchive.txt” in the config directory, files

will not be archived for backup, and the Compact Flash will never
become full. The first row in the file must be “1” to disable the
archive system.

Note!
This is only recommended for experienced users who have
implemented robust and documented backup routines of files fetched
from the data server and post processing software. Also, the data
server (FTP) needs to be fully backuped and equipped with a
redundant disk system (RAID) to prevent data loss in case of disk
failure.

10.9 Long cable mode

If more than 500m bus cable is needed in the network, or extreme
electrical disturbances are expected, this mode can be used.
Enable by placing a file named “busrate.txt” in the config directory.
The first row in the file must be “slow” to enable the long cable
mode.

Note! All nodes must have firmware of 1.2.0 or later, otherwise the
network will fail.

The Infra Master does not need to be calibrated.

Instructions for updating firmware of the Infra Master are found
on the Infra support web pages.
To keep the Infra Master dry and protect the electronics from
corrosion, check/replace the desiccants bag in the electronics
compartment regularly. Is is recommended is to check once per
year and change every two years. If any suspision of moisture
inside the case, find the cause, dry it out and replace the
desiccant bag. If sent to repair after damage from moisture,
please remove both main battery and the backup battery to
minimize the damage.
If sent to repair, please carefully write down the description of
the problem. It is also recommended contacting Sigicom before
