Abstract: Hyderabad being the 5th largest city in the country and developing city there is a rapid increase in construction field.
So, there is a need for multi storey buildings. So that for analysis and design of multi storey building, one requires concepts of
structural engineering and also basic idea on theoretical and practical knowledge on planning and designing. In this project we
mainly deal with analysis and design of multi storey building by using ETABS software, considering loads i.e., dead loads,
imposed loads, wind loads and seismic loads. Hyderabad comes under zone II. Though there is no consideration of seismic loads
in zone II we include it as we have taken G+20. Structures higher than G+5 are considered under seismic loading.

Keywords – Earthquake analysis, Wind analysis, ETABS

I. INTRODUCTION
ETABS the name itself stands for Extended three-dimensional analysis of building system. ETABS is mainly used for design
and analysis of structure of the building. In this project ETABS 2016 ultimate 16.2.1 is used. ETABS contains features like
modelling, designing, and analysis of a structure. ETABS not only handle the analysis and design of simple structure and can give
accurate resultsbut also it can handle the complex and largest building structural models. ETABS mostly uses following types
analysis methods:
a. Linear
b. Non-linear
c. Pushover analysis
d. P∆ Effect analysis
1.1 Aim of the study: The main aim of this study is the analysis and design of G+20 by using ETABS
1.2 Objectives
 The objective is to analysis of forces, stress, strain, deflection and bending moment for a G+20 structural system.
 The objective is to design the G+20 building (structural system) by using ETABS.
 To design the building against the effect of seismic forces or to make the structure earthquake resistant.
 To get the knowledge on parameters structural elements like beams, columns, slabs in the design.

Rinkesh R Bhandarkar, Utsav M Ratanpara& Mohammed Qureshi did the work on this paper ETABS is used to parking
garages, steel structures, concrete structures, small buildings, skyscrapers and portal framed structures. the study mainly discusses
about the displacement comparison between shear wall structure and frame structure. and they concluded that the story stiffness is
decreased in case of framed structure when compare with the shear wall structure. the story drift is increased in case of framed
structure as compared with shear wall structure. The model period and frequency are more in shear wall structure as compare with
frame structure. In case of frame structure, the story acceleration is less than the shear wall structure. They finally concluded that
the performance of shear structure is better than the frame structure.
K. Naga Sai Gopal& N. Lingeshwaran have done the work on this paper. In this study the design of the structure is based on
ETABS and Limit state method not only provide adequate strength, serviceability, and durability but also economy. Displacement,
Shear force, bending moment variation has been shown. If in case of any beam fails, the beam and column are changed and
reinforcement detailing can be updated.
1.3 Loads and Load combinations
Reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete structures are generally designed as per Limit state method, the following load
combinations are taken:
1. 1.5 (D.L +L. L)
2. 1.2(D. L + L. L±EX)
3. 1.2(D. L + L. L±EY)
4. 1.5(D. L ± EX)
5. 1.5(D. L±EY)
6. 0.9D. L±1.5EX
7. 0.9D. L±1.5EY
As per IS 875 part-2 the live load for the residential building was taken as 2KN/m2 analysis and design is being done, Dead load
will be taken by default by the ETABS it is time reducing thing. For this G+20 residential building we have taken the wall loads as
5KN/m2 because to produce the economical sections. For floor finishing the load was taken as 1KN/m2.

II. Materials and Section details of the Structures
Grade of Concrete: M30
Grade of Steel: Fe500
Column Sizes: 400x800, 500x800, 600x900, 600x1000
Beam sizes: 230x500

2.1 Architectural Plan

The plan was taken from an architect in Hyderabad and for this plan analysis and design has been done by using ETABS.
The centre line diagram of the proposed plan has been shown below.Which is considered for the design and Analysis by using
ETABS.

Fig.1 Architectural plan

 The very first step in ETABS is to setup the Units and also the standards which we are going to use for design and
analysis of structure.
 Importing the Auto CAD file to the ETABS.
o Firstly, convert Auto CAD .DWG file to .DXF file in Auto CAD and then goto FILE and select Import option,
then set the units for the file which is to be imported.finally imported image is shown in the windows.
 Defining Material Properties and Section Properties.
o We had to define the material properties initially and then afterwards we define section properties i.e., Width,
depth, and properties of the sections.
 Assigning footings & Assigning Sectional properties.
o Select the nodes Where footings have to be assigned. Go to Assign>>joints>>restraints>>click on
Fixed>>Assign. Assigning the sectional properties to the structure by selecting assign>>sectional
properties>>click on property>>assign.
 Assigning Loads
o Go to assign and then assign the all loads for the structure and before that define all the load cases and if needed
modify the lateral loads.
 Analysing the model
o The model should be analysed by clicking Run analysis. Then analysed model is shown in 3D view.
 Design check for the model
o By selecting suitable reinforcement details and preferences of the reinforcement design the sections of the model
and check design

Table.1 Storey Stiffness

IV. Conclusion
 E-TABS software provides adequate strength, durability, serviceability along with economy
 E-TABS is based on limit state method
 Displacement is more as the storey is increasing, thus 21st storey is having high displacement
 The forces and support reactions are minimum as the response factor taken is zone-II
 Failed beams or columns can be resized by selecting definite beams or columns
 Shear force, bending moment, storey drift, torsional force will be shown
 As the storey height increases the bending moment and shear force for beams and columns will increase
 Replacement of light weight brick instead of conventional brick will reduce the dead load thus effects the shear forces
and bending moment to reduce
 The dimensions of bear or column should be increased as to resist against seismic loads
 E-TABS mainly reduces the time and work along with more accuracy
