YOUTUBE TRAFFIC COURSE

Hi, my name is Alex Copeland and I work with Richard Fairbairn

and the Online Success Model Team. This is our YouTube traffic
course.
This course is going to show you exactly how to drive traffic to
your videos and your channel in particular. With more traffic you
can get more clicks and more views. A lot of people use their
YouTube channel as their main web site. It's actually the second
largest search engine after Google. And some YouTube users have
hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of people viewing their
stuff every single day.
Once you've got this sort of traffic it's very easy to monetize it
and make some serious cash. So we're going to cover exactly how
you can do this and how you can get this traffic to your YouTube
channel. We hope you enjoy this course and we look forward to
seeing you in the next video.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC- SEO

My name is Alex Copeland and I work with Richard Fairbairn and

the Online Success Model Team. This is the next video in our
YouTube traffic course. In this video we're going to cover SEO or
Search Engine Optimization.
You might think this is only restricted to things in Google, but
YouTube and videos also have their own version of this. And the
best thing is it's free, organic traffic. If you can get this right and
you can get lots and lots of different visits and not have to pay a
penny for it. And not only that, but they are targeted as well
because they're searching for the things that you want them to
see you for.
What exactly is YouTube SEO and what tips can I give so that you
can make sure you're using it on your own channels?
1. YouTube favours longer videos because they want people to
stay on YouTube longer. Quick snippets of a video aren't going to
keep people's imagination or keep them interested. So make sure
that you have slightly longer videos and you will be able to keep
people on there longer and therefore rank higher.
2. YouTube also values the Watch time. This is the amount of time
that people are taking to watch your videos online. This means
people are intrigued or interested enough to stick around with
your video. And this has got more weight than keywords and in
other words techniques. So if you do anything at all make your
videos interesting enough to make people stick around. The
higher your watch time the higher you'll show up in the search
results.
3. YouTube also favours videos that are first watched by people
when they first land on YouTube. This is great if you've got
something on the front page or maybe you could put it as the
trailer on your channel so that people watch it straight away.
4. Gain a higher amount of subs is great. It's definitely something
to strive towards. But YouTube doesn't necessarily rank videos
higher just because you've got higher subs so don't think of this as
the only thing you should be going for.
5. Views are also very important. When you're looking at the
channel, you can take the viewers in total. So obviously the more
videos you make the more viewers you're likely to get and this will
help you rank too.
6. Create great content that people want to watch and this would
be a great way to rank. If you do something that people are
interested in then they're going to get watched and all the stuff
I've already mentioned will come into play. But how do you get
this great content that people actually want to see. Well, one of
the ways is to create videos and titles based on YouTube search
predictions. To do this all you have to do is go over to YouTube
and then type something into the search bar. I put ‘how to make’
because instructional videos are usually very intriguing to people
and they stick around and watch them. And as you can see it's
given me a load of different suggestions as to what I could base
this video on. By doing this and by adding little questions into the
search bar you'll come up with tons of different ideas to base a
video around.
7. Another great way to find out whether you're actually placing
what you want and what sort of ranking you have is by using an
extension called TubeBuddy. This is a Chrome extension that you
install and it helps create keywords for you, optimize your SEO
and generally help grow your channel. This is something I use
myself and I love it. If you want to find out more about it then it's
best to go over and have a look at their website at
www.tubebuddy.com . I highly recommend it and a lot of the
YouTubers recommend it too.
If you start using these tips and possibly TubeBuddy as well you'll
definitely see the benefit in your YouTube SEO.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC- SOCIAL
NETWORKS

YouTube traffic course is all about social media and to use social
media to boost your videos as well and to boost your channel.
There are quite a few social platforms out there, but I'm going to
concentrate on just two.
FACEBOOK
With Facebook, it is a little bit different because you don't want to
post your videos on Facebook directly, you don't want to use your
YouTube URL because it doesn't really like it when you put other
links on that. You can do this, it's not a problem but you won't get
as much traffic. The best way to do it is to actually upload your
videos to Facebook itself and then just have a link go into your
YouTube channel. This way you can tell viewers of your videos to
subscribe or take some other form of action you'll get seen more
by Facebook because you are uploading the video to them and
they will get to know your content.
To start with you could create a Facebook fan page and then you
could use your personal Facebook account to promote your
Facebook fan page and your YouTube channel. It is a little bit
difficult to use Facebook to promote your YouTube channel
because of what I said before. But rather you stayed on Facebook
and didn't try to pull people away. However it's definitely
something you should use in your marketing campaigns when it
comes to actually trying to get people to your channel and to
subscribe for you.
INSTAGRAM
Instagram is a very visual platform so therefore it's great for
things like YouTube videos. You can use Instagram as a kind of
branding tool. Don't just promote your videos, but promote
yourself and your brand as well. It’s very easy to do this and you
can upload things and put your URL into Instagram and get people
to follow through and go to your own YouTube channel, therefore
boosting your views and boosting your subscribers. Combining
Instagram, Facebook and YouTube altogether you'll have an
amazing way to get people to get to your channel.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC- REDDIT

Another site that could be classed as social is called Reddit. The

amount of traffic that this gets is huge especially the front page.
If you were able to get some content on this front page here then
you would get a huge amount of traffic, but it is quite difficult to
get there. Here are some tips on how to actually get your stuff on
to Reddit, how to get used to it and hopefully get yourself on the
front page.
So what exactly is Reddit?
It's a place where people can post all types of content. They can
post images, jokes, videos, content and you name it they can post.
The way it works is people up vote this content and the more up
votes they get the higher it shows on the page. If they get enough
up votes then they end up on the front page. So it's all about
popularity and therefore more popular equals more traffic.
As I said the front page is very difficult to get onto, so I would
suggest that you focus on Sub-Reddit. Sub-Reddit is a very much
like a niche, like a sub niche. There are lots of them and there’s
pretty much everything covered. But how do you find out what
sub niche you should be in for what you're doing. Luckily they put
them into different links at the top of the page. You can just click
through these and see what there is. Let's try that now.
Let's go to sports then we can see what's in there. As you can see
we've now got US sports, World Sports and Recreation. Let’s go to
golf. This is a Sub-Reddit and it's not the front page but it's still
got people up voting things to do with golf. And now if we
wanted to do something we could submit a link or submit text.
There are so many of these you can search around and find and
see what suits whatever you're doing content wise.
The thing is people that uses Reddit don't really like being sold to;
they don't like being marketed to. So don't make it obvious that
you're selling things or they’ll cut you out on it and it just won't
look good. In fact before you start posting things like channel
links you should post and add value so people can see that you're
actually giving something to the community.
Not only that but it means you'll get used to the site. You should
always read the guidelines for each Reddit or Sub-Reddit because
they do change from time to time.
Make sure you're not going against their rules and then post
relevant content so that people get to know that you're actually
helping out. Once you've done that you can then start putting
stuff that points towards your YouTube channel and hopefully a
lot of traffic and a lot of new subs.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC-COLLABORATE

What is Collaboration?
In this particular case what we mean is that you should
collaborate with other YouTubers who have similar sized
subscribers or similar niches. This is almost like reaching out for
people that are influencers; these people that are in the market
that you want to be in and helping each other out. The reason we
say to go for similar sized subscribers in similar niches is because
you want to be able to help them as much as they can help you.
Also, if you go to someone with too many subscribers they're not
going to want to help because what's in it for them. And if you go
for some with not enough subscribers, this time you're the one
not getting any benefits. There is an exception to this rule and
this is if you provide fantastic content or have a skill that you can
leverage. If you can do this then pick on YouTubers that might
want to collaborate with you. The fact is if you can offer them
something they can't do they might give you that extra exposure
by including you on their channel.
You could also collaborate with other YouTubers to create a
network of videos that drive traffic to each other. This means you
could even use topics that you know you're both into or you could
even do it to get focused on the suggested videos. After a video
plays on YouTube it suggests other videos that the users might be
interested in.
If you can make sure that you're all doing the same sort of thing
there's a very good chance you'll get included and then you can
ride the coattails of other people and they could ride the coattails
of you. Before contacting these YouTubers it's always good to add
comments and just like, share and watch their videos. This way
they'll notice you and hopefully when you contact them they’ll
know who you are.
Another great place to go if you want to talk about YouTube is a
place called www.yttalk.com . This is a forum for YouTubers who
has all sorts of people talking about tips, tricks and all sorts of
things to do with YouTube and how to grow your channel. It is a
great resource and you can join it for free.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC-COMMENTING

If you really want to hustle you should comment on as many

related videos as you can. To find related videos, just search for
whatever your niche topic is and then go through the different
videos and look for the comments. It's always best to read and
actually know what the video is about and then put a decent
comment that shows that you actually understood it. When you
comment on other YouTube videos that YouTube might notice
you and may even subscribe to your channel because everything
you do will be linked through just here. The more you comment
the more the channel owners will notice you and the more likely
they'll want to collaborate with you when you do contact them.
Remember you want to join in and show your part of the
community so that they can see that you're serious YouTuber not
just someone trying to fish for subscribers. Now, certain
percentages of the audience of the videos you're commenting on
will probably also click on your profile pic and check out your
videos and your channel. A quick tip is that people are more likely
to click on your profile pic if it's eye catching or if it's a profile
picture of your face looking out at them. People like to see
people.
Having a nice profile pic can make people want to go to your
channel when they see it in the comments section. If you don't put
a profile pic up then you're just going get lost in the noise. When
you're doing comments though don't blatantly promote your
channel. This isn't about trying to just get your channel in front of
people. Like I say watch the video and give a comment that shows
that you've actually paid attention.
Make good quality comments in a much more like to stick out to
people. And the thing is you never really know which comments
are going to get popular and get lots of views, but every single
comment has a chance for them to click back to your profile, to
your channel and to subscribe and view your videos. So, make sure
you put that effort in that they'll get noticed and they'll get
picked out.
YOUTUBE TRAFFIC- MORE YOUTUBE
TIPS

One of the main things that people see in YouTube when they're
searching is the thumbnail. When they get the search results it
shows a thumbnail of what the video is. So, I cannot stress enough
how important it is to have something that catches people's eyes.
But how do you create these?
Well by far the easiest and best way is with a free site called
‘www.canvas.com.’ It gives you everything you need to make
things thumbnails. It even gives you the correct sizes and all the
elements you'll need. All you need to do is sign up at
www.canvas.com and search for YouTube thumbnail.
This means you've got the correct dimensions and you also get
free thumbnails that you can use to edit and change to your
heart's content. A great tip is to brand this so that it looks like
yours all the time you can see your eyes pop out when people
search for stuff in YouTube.
Another great tip is to make sure that you create good content as
that's what makes videos go viral. Now don't worry if you're not
sure what great content is yet, just keep making videos because
you will get better. But what you want to do is create more and
more stuff so that you get used to it and eventually you'll get
better and better until it gets to the point where it comes as
second nature. You should also optimize your home page.
Now, when you create a channel you can edit it with things like;
1. A channel trailer
2. Featured channels
3. Featured videos and
4. Playlists
Have a mess around with this and see what works best for you.
You can add graphics to the top to make sure that is eye catching
and you can add all of your different social channels as well. All of
this helps it to stand out from people that haven't bothered. You
could email and text your subscribers.
One way to build an email list is actually on YouTube itself. Put
your link inside your video description where they can sign up for
some sort of freebie or maybe to be put onto some sort of
newsletter. Now, once you have these people on your list you can
then tell them when there's a new video is up. You can also create
email list outside of YouTube and then use that to drive people to
your channel to subscribe.
You can put links to other videos in your video descriptions. By
doing this you create kind of a video wheel where people see
what’s in your video, they like it and they click on another one of
your video links, they watch that and so on. This builds up your
view time and your amount of views on your entire channel. This is
great because this helps in the SEO as well.
PHYSICAL PROMOTION
Don’t forget good old physical promotion. Word of mouth,
business cards things like that. By promoting an offline you can
get people online to go to your YouTube channel. People forget
about this in this day and age of digital marketing, but there are
still many people that don't just go on YouTube for the sake of it.
You need to let them know you're there.
HAVE YOUR OWN WEBSITE OR BLOG
By having your own Website or blog and embedding on videos on
there or even putting links to watch your YouTube channel, you're
going to get a lot more views. All you need to do is make a post
based on something you've got and embed on YouTube video into
it. This will drive lots of traffic and also build your blog at the
same time.
Another great tip is to look for videos with lots of views and make
videos on similar topics. Now, maybe you're in the Internet
marketing niche in which case you can see what people's videos
are getting lots of views based on the reviews and things like that
and you can make something similar. Likewise, you can use the
search technique that we used in a different video to find related
topics and headlines to base your videos on.
You could also put pictures on Google Maps. When you visit
somewhere, you can put a picture up that people will view this
picture and you can put a link to your YouTube channel inside of
it. You'd be surprised how much traffic comes through Google
Maps and the images and reviews they do.
