1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Scope of Work

 The method statement is prepared for earth work for "Construction of Lekela Substation 220 KV".

2. CREW & EQUIPMENTS

2.1 Personnel
 See Attached organization chart. (Appendix A)
2.2 Equipments
 Excavator
 Loader
 Dumping Trucks
 Plat Compactor
 Roller Compactor
 Survey Equipment
2.3 Safety Regulations
2.3.1 PersonalProtective Equipments (PPE)
 PPE to be worn (Safety glasses, gloves , safety footwear and helmet and Harness).

2.3.2 House Keeping

 Topsoil should be stockpile at the place agreed by the owner.

2.3.3 Equipment Control

 All equipment to be in good condition and inspected by safety supervisor.


 Every Equipment has its portable ABS Fire Extinguisher.

2.3.4 Traffic Control

 Access to be considered for truck and crane I equipments entry, Maximum speed for
vehicles is 20km/hr.
2.3.5 Falling in Open Excavation Control
 For excavation of maximum depth = 1.25 m warning signs and caution tapes to be placed
around excavation area
 For excavation depth > 1.25m warning signs and barricades will be placed around
excavation area.

3. DEFINITION OF PROCESS

3.1 MOBILIZATION OF PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT


• Personnel and equipment will be mobilized before starting the activities.
• The accommodations of all personnel are outside the site.
3.2 SURVEYING AND SETTING OUT
• As per approved method statement of site preparation.
3.2 GRUBBING AND STRIP OF TOP SOIL

3.3.1 Grubbing
 After the clearing of the site by the owner Grubbing shall consist of digging out,
removing of the remaining stumps and roots and disposal outside the site.

3.3.2 Stripof Top Soil

 After Cleaning and Grubbing the Contractorwill strip the top soil to minimum
depth of 200mm and as directed by the owner.

 Contractor will stock pile the approved topsoil for reuse after testing and getting
the owner approval. The stripped surface will be compacted to 95% proctor dry
density before the starting of backfilling.

3.4 EXCAVATION
3.4.1 Excavation for BuildingFoundations
 Marking of excavation borders with adequate offset, excavate the whole area
to the levels mentioned in the approved drawings.
3.4.2 Excavation for outdoorAuxiliaryFoundations and cable Trenches.
 Marking of excavation border with adequate offset. Excavation to the level
mentioned in the approved drawings. Excavated surface to be compacted to
95% modified proctor dry density.
3.4.3 Excavation for Under Ground Fuel and Septic Tanks
 Marking of excavation borders with adequate offset, excavate the whole area
to the levels mentioned in the approved drawings.

3.4.4 Excavation of Asphalt Paved Services and Access Roads.


 Marking of excavation border with adequate offset. Excavation to the level
mentioned in the approved drawings. Excavated surface to be compacted to
95% modified proctor dry density.
3.4.5 Excavated Material

 The Contractor will stock pile the excavated material for reuse after testing and
getting the owner approval.

 The unapproved material will be removed by the contractor and disposed of in


areas off the site arranged by the contractor and approved by the Engineer.

SOIL REPLACMENT UNDER FOUNDATION

3.5.1 General
 The bottom of excavation pit should be submerged for 24 hours with water and
thoroughly compacted.
 Filling will start after the owner inspection and approve the surface upon which it is to be
placed.
3.5.2 Material

 Imported clean sand will be used for soil replacement after testing and getting the owner
approval.
3.5.3 Placing
 Fill materials will be placed and spread in uniform horizontal layer across the full area
of the foundation. The thickness of each layer before compaction will not exceed
150mm
 Fill in areas not intended to receive concrete foundations will be placed and spread in uniform
layers not exceeding 300mm before compaction.
 All the required test will be performed as per the approved test plan.

BACK FILL AROUND BUILDINGS


3.6.1 General
 Filling will start after the owner inspection and approve the surface upon which it is
to be placed.

3.6.2 Material
 Clean Selected excavated Material will be used after testing and getting the owner approval.
3.6.3 Placing

 Fill materials will be placed and spread in uniform horizontal layers across the full area
of the foundation without segregation.
 The thickness of each layer before compaction shall not exceed 150mm.

 Fill in areas not intended to receive concrete foundation will be placed and spread shall not
exceeding 300mm before compaction.
 All the required test will be performed as per the approved test plan.
 Backfill for auxiliary foundations and cable trenches
 Filling materials under auxiliary foundations and cable trenches will be placed and
spread in uniform horizontal layers. The thickness of each layer before compaction
will not exceed 150mm.
 Filling material around auxiliary foundations and cable trenches will be placed
and spread in uniform horizontal layers. The thickness of each layer before
compaction will not exceed 300mm Backfill around underground fuel and septic
tanks
 Backfill around underground fuel and septic tank.
 Filling Materials around underground fuel and septic tanks will be placed and
spread in uniform horizontal layers. The thickness of each layer before
compaction will not exceed 300mm.

 No necessity to use filter fabric to improve the soil as there is no ground water
encountered in any of the boreholes and it was not recommended by the approved
soil investigation report.
