SECTION 1: USE OF ADJECTIVE AND ADVERB
Use of adjective and adverb

SECTION 2: ADJECTIVE AFTER LINKING VERB


Adjective after linking verb
Linking verb: 1. Appear 6. Look
2. Be 7. Prove
3. Become 8. Seem
4. Feel 9. Smell
5. Taste
The adjective describes the subject

a. Form: subject + linking verb + adjective

Example: my sister looks sad

b. Form: subject + linking verb + adverb +adjective

Example: the man becomes so stingy


SECTION 3: POSITION OF ADJECTIVE AND ADVERB
Position od adjective and adverb
A. Adjective comes before noun
Example: She is a beautiful girl NOT she is a girl beautiful

B. Adverb can be in the beginning or in the end of the sentence and between auxiliary verb
and ordinary verb
Example: 1. Recently my mom has cooked something
Adverb (in front of the sentence)

2. my mom has cooked something recently


(in the end of sentence) Adverb

SECTION 4: -LY ADJECTIVE AND ADVERB


-ly adjective and adverb
Form: 1. Noun + -ly  adjective
Friend + ly  friendly
List: 1. costly 5. Weekly 9. Daily
2. Lovely 6. Nightly 10. Lonely
3. Early 7. Mounthly 11. Kindly
4. Yearly 8. Hourly 12. Friendly

2. adjective + ly  adverb
Slow + ly  slowly
List: 1. Beautifully 4. Recenlty
2. Slowly 5. Nicely
3. Additionally 6. Negatively
SECTION 5: PREDICATE ADJECTIVE
Predicate adjective
Definiton: predicate adjective can not be directly in front of the noun
Example: Alike Like, similiar
Alive Live, living
Alone NOUN Lone NOUN
Afraid Frighteened
Asleep sleeping

SECTION 6: -ED/-ING ADJECTIVE


-ed/-ing adjective
1. –ing
Meaning: do the action (active)
Example: the playing children are in the garden
(children play)

2. –Ed
Meaning: receive the action (passive)
Example: the cleaned clothes are is the closet
(someone cleanes the clothes)
