Student Book Q3 It is important to select the appropriate content and style to match the audience
you are writing for. Look again at the newspaper article on Student Book p. 54,
and then consider the different text which needs planning – a letter. Here is the
key information to bear in mind: you have been asked to plan...
‘... a letter to David Field, the zoo director, expressing your support for the
zoo’s endangered species programme, and your concern about the decline
in  the zoo’s elephant population.’
First, complete the table shown below.
• Add any further layout or presentational features of the article or letter.
• Read the task above again, and decide the purpose/s of the letter.
• Focus on the style of the letter once you know its purpose and audience.
