ICAO Approach Names

• ICAO is recommendingOverview
that countries retitle
Performance Based Navigation (PBN)
approaches.

• “RNAV” will be removed from approach titles

under this recommendation and replaced by
“RNP.” “GPS” and “GNSS” will also be
removed. See next page for examples.

• Deadline to comply: 01DEC2022.

• Many countries are beginning to make these
changes already.

• The FAA plans to retain current approach

naming philosophy.

• There will likely be some initial confusion, as

many in the US associate “RNP” with
“Authorization Required (AR).” It is best to
disassociate these two terms starting now.
