ELECTRIFIED DOUBLE TRACK IPOH - RAWANG

1.0 SCOPE

This method statement is generally describes the procedures for Dynamic

Load Test on selected working spun pile at the proposed pile embankment
area.

2.0 MACHINERY

The following machinery are proposed to be used for the works:

a) Piling rig
b) Lorries
c) Backhoe

3.0 EQUIPMENT

The following is the list of equipment to be used:

a) PDA apparatus

4.0 METHOD

4.1 Dynamic Load Test for piles is done in accordance to the ASTM
Standard D-4945-96 or ICE Specification For Piling (UK) Standard
Testing Procedure. Dynamic Pile Test is based on the theory of Stress
Wave Propagation on Piles (CASE Method).

4.2 The test is suitable for pile verifications at the end of driving or at re-
strike for selected piles. The soil condition is to be considered when
determining the time at which to be carried out the test. The pile
driving hammer used for installation of the pile will be employed to
caused the impact on the pile top to generate the necessary strain and
wave propagation. The procedure for impact follows that of standard
pile driving routine.

4.3 A set of strain transducers and accelerometers are attached at a

distance not less than one and half times the diameter or width of the
pile section, measured from the top of the pile. These sensors will
measure the induced strain and acceleration of the pile section caused

by the impact. The sensors will be attached to the pile using

mechanical anchor bolts installed into 6mm diameter X 40mm deep
holes drilled into the concrete. Refer Appendix 1.

4.4 To ensure good field data and protection for the sensors, the pile top
should be at least 3 times.

4.5 The pile width or diameter measured from the ground surface.

4.6 Upon securing the sensors and connection them to the Pile Driving
Analyzer, the latter is turned on and the relevant pile information is
keyed onto the equipment .A self-diagnosis program is then activated
to ensure that the system is in proper working order.

4.7 Once, the self-check is done, the system is set ‘Standby’ mode, ready
to receive the test signals from the impact. The collection of data from
the impact is automatic. Multiple blows/impacts is often carried out to
enable representative data to be collected.

4.8 Data from different blows for the same pile will be stored onto one
storage file location on the computer .A representative set of data will
be used for onward analysis. Useful information that can be display for
each impact includes:

a) Mobilized static load capacity

b) Pile integrity
c) Compression stress at pile head during impact.

5.0 ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY

5.1 Work will be carried out according to the Project Safety Plan.

5.2 Tool box meeting will be carried out on construction area at regular
interval to ensure compliance with the Safety Plan and familiarity with
accident and emergency procedures.

5.3 Conduct safety induction course to workers before commencement of

work.

5.4 Provide PPE to all workers including safety helmet, safety shoe, vest,
ear protector, etc.

5.5 Provide signboards to warn workers and public of dangers associated

with construction works.

5.6 Ensure all affected utilities are relocated or protected prior to

commencement of work.

5.7 Inspect all machinery at site and ensure that it has competent
certificate and is safe to operate.

5.8 The entire area of operation 2.5 meter away from the operational
railway line will be barricaded to restrict the movement of the working
staff.

5.9 The area of operation will be barricaded to restrict the public

movement to ensure their safety.

6.0 TRACK POSSESSION & MONITORING

Not applicable.

7.0 SUMMARY OF FORMS

List of form to be used for the work is as follows:

7.1 Request For Inspection (9288-F-S003 Rev 3.3)
