Teaching purpose: I grew up in a developing country.

English was an advantage at that time

when I first graduated from university. It helped me to get an excellent job at a big
company. I was studying TOEIC at my university when I took a part-time job as a teaching
assistant in an English center. Slowly, I realized that TOEIC could help me a lot in daily office
communication with my foreign colleagues. Everyone was amazed at my American accent.
That was my very first motivation to keep studying English for my career and leisure.

Since I am getting older, I want to become an English teacher to help other people have
their dream job and gain respect through English skills. Also, we can reach a tremendous
amount of knowledge by the book in English, entertainment, and the internet by acquiring
the English language.

At the moment, I have an English grammar class with a ten years old boy. My short term
goal is to help him pass his six grape entrance exam. Even though we have only thirty hours
of studying together but the long term goal is his scholarship in the medical school of a
developed country in the future.

Teaching style: The communitive approach is my favorite. The world is getting small, and
people need to connect to have a breakthrough. This approach helps the student relate to
not only each other but also the real world by using authentic materials and activities. The
great way to have the opportunity in which we can learn and understand other cultures is
through group and pair work in the discussion. One more thing that I love about this
approach is the emphasis of writing and speaking that are the result of hard-work and
comprehension by reading books and listen to English audios.

Other than that, I have been teaching a primary schoolboy, and he needs to pass the
academic test also. One of the techniques in the comprehension approach that I ally with is
role reversal. The idea to have the student play the role of a teacher could help them to gain
deep learning the books or materials which is provided by the teacher. They will have a
chance to explain and speak up their understanding and opinion. I believe that this idea will
stimulate student’s curiosity and their study responsibility because now they need to learn
twice to teach.

Teaching technique: I usually spend 15 minutes teaching and give students 45 minutes to
practice what they have studied — this technique allies with 20/80 principles which student-
based approach. I will carefully level up the books which motivate student daily reading and
give them some online exercise games to study English.

Storytelling is an excellent technique for getting a student’s attention. Everyone love storied
because it is memorable and fun, so I will use warm language by telling my daily stories and
asking the student’s story of their days. A great song from youtube can kick off student’s
emotions. I usually play a fast beat song to warm up.

As mention above, 80% of my lesson will give for the practice so I will guided practice and
independent practice like grammar exercises to check student’s understanding. I will have
them to explain why they choose their answers. This could help them to have in-depth
knowledge about the theory which is given. Evaluations and tests are given every five
lessons to provide student feedback and show them their strengths and weaknesses.
