Weakness:
Manifold studs 93-98 (may have some relationship to hard driving &
Towing & may not! Stronger replacement stud available.) Msg 12083
Crankshaft 93- Sept 95 Thicker crank after that (25mm to 32mm).

Sway bar links- early wear on some
Ball joints- early wear on some
Engine mounts (OK if not abused with quick starts & heavy loads)
Door locks & window switches (various problems).
EGR backpressure hose 93-95?? (Bad material.)
Rear wiper 93-95? (Can get caught under rest.)
Piston slap (VG30-816604C through VG30-912495C) missing oil hole in rod

Strengths:
Tranny (95 & up) if oil changed regularly
Exhaust (SS) (my original exhaust at 133K.).
Timing belt after 93 model (minimal breaks – spec’ed to 100K miles but many go
double.) VG30E Engine is non-interference in V&Q only.
Engine performance good (with simple maintenance)
Starter & Alternator
Body corrosion resistance
Passenger compartment wear resistance
01 and 02 models don’t need EGR sensors to meet NO2 (new techniques used)
