Introduction

1 Introduction

1.1 Scope
This Operational Instruction describes the procedure to replace single Adjunct
Processor Unit Board (APUB) in Adjunct Processor (AP). The term APUB is
used to refer following ROJ numbers.

• APUB, ROJ 208 840/11

• APUB2, ROJ 208 841/21

• GEP2-QC-4-HD, ROJ 208 841/2

• GEP5-400, ROJ 208 840/5

• GEP5-1200, ROJ 208 842/5

• GEP5-64-1200, ROJ 208 867/5

Procedure

2 Procedure

2.1 Prerequisites

2.1.1 Conditions
The following conditions must apply before this procedure can be completed:

• A work order is received or an AP FAULT alarm is received in the alarm list.

• A technician is available on site.

• An APUB replacement board is available.

• One of the two APUB boards is active and in working condition.

2.1.2 Data

The following data must be known to complete this procedure:

• The slot number of the two APUB boards.

• The magazine number of the APUB board.

• AP spare board used for the replacement must be compatible with the
active one.

The following data must be known if Intelligent Platform Management Interface


(IPMI) Firmware (FW) upgrade is needed:

• The new IPMI FW revision which the board should be upgraded to.

• The path to the FW image <.MOT> used for the upgrade.

2.1.3 Special Aids

The following special aids are required to complete this procedure:

• Torx #8 screw-driver to remove the board and to insert the new board.

• Torx #5 screw-driver to disconnect cables as well as to connect cables for


replaced board.

• A Local Craft Terminal (LCT).

• Grounding wrist strap. It has to be worn by the technician and connected


to a ground each time an Operational Instruction step that involves the
hardware is executed.

2.1.4 Documents

Knowledge of the following documents is required:

• Ericsson Command-Line Interface

• How to Access an AXE

• Managed Object Model

2.2 Actions
Switch to AP Local Mode

1. Switch to AP local mode on AP.

Use command APLOC

Note: The prompt changes from (<) to the Ericsson Command Line
Interface (ECLI).

Modify InactivityTimer Attribute Value

2. Change the value of inactivityTimer to 180 minutes.

Go to Operational Instruction AP, Security Settings, Change. Perform


the steps in that Operational Instructionand, and return to Step 3 in this
Operational Instruction.

Note: Make a note of the inactivityTimer attribute value to revert


back, once the procedure is completed.

Get the Slot Number of the Active Node

3. Get the slot number and magazine address of the active board. Use option
-n APUB

Use Command hwcls

Note: Make a note of slot number and magazine address from above
printout.

Note: See work order for <slot_no> number of the faulty board, the
other slot is the active working board. This information will be used
in later steps.

Procedure

Check BIOS and IPMI FW Version on Active Board

4. Print the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) version of the active node. List
the attribute biosVersion in Managed Object (MO) ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>.

Note: Make a note of the attribute biosVersion from the above printout.

Note: slot_no is the slot number of the active board noted in Step 3

5. Check the running IPMI FW revision on active board. Use options -m


<magazine> -s <slot_no>.

Use Command ipmifwprint

Note: slot_no is the slot number of the active board noted in Step 3

Note: magazine is the magazine address of the active board noted in


Step 3

Note: Make a note of the printout from the above command.

Block Faulty Board

6. Does the faulty APUB board exist in the slot?

Yes
Go to Step 7.

No
Go to Step 69.

Note: For the slot number, refer to Step 3.

Note: Insert the APUB board if it is not inserted properly.

7. Block the board in the slot reported in AP FAULT alarm or the work order.
Use action block on MO ApBlade=<slot_no> representing the faulty APUB
hardware blade.

Note: See work order for <slot_no> number of the faulty board.

Note: Check Manual Intervention Allowed (MIA) Light Emitting Diode


(LED) is ON.

8. List the attribute boardStatus on the MO ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>.

Note: See work order for <slot_no> number of the faulty board.

9. Is the value BLOCKED?

Yes
Go to Step 10.

No
Go to Step 69.

Identify the Processor Board

10. List the attribute productNumber of the structure productInfo of the MO


ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>.

Note: <slot_no> is the slot number of active node shown in the printout
received in Step 3.

Note: Make a note of productNumber.

11. Select the appropriate action according to the productNumber:

ROJ 208 840/11, ROJ 208 841/21 or ROJ 208 841/2


Go to Step 16.

ROJ 208 840/5, ROJ 208 842/5 or ROJ 208 867/5


Go to Step 12.

Disconnect Cables on Faulty Board

Warning!
Be careful when removing the cables. They are easily damaged.

12. Disconnect the ethernet, external alarms cables and USB Thumb Drive
from the faulty board in the following order, see Description document
APG43 Cable Reference.

1 Disconnect ETH-0 (if present) on the Board


2 Disconnect ETH-1 on the Board
3 Disconnect USB-1 (External alarms cable) on the Board
4 Disconnect Thumb Drive (USB) on the Board, if present

Replace Faulty APUB Board

13. Replace the faulty board with the replacement board and power on without
any cables.

Note: When you have loosened the faulty board from the cabinet a few
millimeters, check that all screws are loose - they have a tendency
to still be connected by a half turn.

Procedure

Reconnect Cables on Newly Replaced Board

14. Connect the ethernet, external alarms cables and Thumb Drive (USB) in
the following order, see Description document APG43 Cable Reference.

1 Connect ETH-0 (if present) on the Board


2 Connect ETH-1 on the Board
3 Connect USB-1 (External alarms cable) on the Board
4 Connect Thumb Drive (USB) on the Board, if present

15. Go to Step 21.

Disconnect Cables on Faulty Board

Warning!
Be careful when removing the cables. They are easily damaged.

16. Disconnect the ethernet, external alarms cables and Digital Versatile Disc
(DVD) cables from the faulty board in the following order, see Description
document APG43 Cable Reference.

1 Disconnect ETH-0 (if present) on the Board


2 Disconnect ETH-1 on the Board
3 Disconnect SATA-0 USB-0 (External alarms cable) on the Board
4 Disconnect SATA-1 (DVD cable) on the Board, if present

17. Disconnect the SCSI cables in the following order.

1 Disconnect SAS-1 on the Board


2 Disconnect SAS-0 on the Board

Note: It is important that the cables are connected in the same channels
(SAS-0 and SAS-1 respectively) where they were removed from.

Replace Faulty APUB Board

18. Replace the faulty board with the replacement board and power on without
any cables.

Note: When you have loosened the faulty board from the cabinet a few
millimeters, check that all screws are loose - they have a tendency
to still be connected by a half turn.

Reconnect Cables on Newly Replaced Board

19. Connect the ethernet, external alarms cables and DVD cables in the
following order, see Description document APG43 Cable Reference:

1 Connect ETH-0(if present) on the Board


2 Connect ETH-1 on the Board
3 Connect SATA-0/USB-0(External alarms cable) on the Board
4 Connect SATA-1(DVD cable) on the Board, if present

20. Connect the SCSI cables in the following order:

1 Connect SAS-1 on the Board


2 Connect SAS-0 on the Board

Note: It is important that the cables are connected in the same channels
(SAS-0 and SAS-1 respectively) where they were removed from.

Prepare Environment for Newly Replaced Board

21. From the active node prepare the environment for newly replaced board.
Use option -p

Use command snrinit

Note: An alarm AP FUNCTION NOT AVAILABLE might occur.

22. Is the command in Step 21 successfully executed?

Yes.
Go to Step 23.

No.
Go to Step 69.

Connect a LCT to Replaced Board

23. Connect a LCT on site to the newly replaced APUB board.

Integrate the Replaced Board

24. List the attribute boardStatus on the MO ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>


representing the faulty APUB hardware blade.

Note: See work order for <slot_no> number of the faulty board.

25. Is the value WORKING?

Yes
Go to Step 29.

Go to Step 26.

26. From the active node, integrate the replaced board indicated by the Work
Order. Use action deblock on MO ApBlade=<slot_no> representing the
faulty APUB hardware blade.

Note: In order to check if board is working, power Light Emitting Diode


(LED) is ON and Manual Intervention Allowed (MIA) Led is OFF.

Note: See work order for <slot_no> number of the faulty board.

27. List the attribute boardStatus on the MO ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>


representing the faulty APUB hardware blade.

28. Is the value WORKING?

Yes
Go to Step 29.

No
Go to Step 69.

Change Date and Time using LCT on Replaced Board

29. Get the date and time from active node.

Use command date

Note: Make a note of the date and time from the above command.

30. From the LCT connected to the replaced node, enter into the BIOS menu
by pressing <F4> during startup.

Note: As soon as activity in Step 26 is performed, the replaced board


node will go on reboot. During the startup of the node <F4> has
to be pressed when below image on the screen is visible. It might
happen that a node reboots before pressing <F4>. If so, reset the
board manually by pressing reset button and press <F4> to enter
into BIOS menu.

31. Change the date and time of the replaced board as noted in Step 29. In
case it is not the current time and date, use the <+> or <-> keys to change
values and use Arrow keys to select Time or Date. Use <TAB> to change
between hour, minute and second and press <ESC> when the values have
been corrected.
32. Is the replaced APUB board ROJ number contains ROJ 208 840/11 ?

Yes
Go to Step 33.

No
Go to Step 34.

33. Change the baud rate of the replaced board from Advanced tab, in
Remote Access Configuration set Serial port mode parameter
value to 115200.

34. Save and Exit from the BIOS menu.

35. Disconnect console cable from the replaced board.

Initiate Recovery Process of the Replaced Board


36. From the active node initiate the recovery process of newly replaced board.
Use option -s -v

Use command snrinit

Note: Make a note of the printout from above command.

37. Is SUCCESS shown in the printout in Step 36 contains ?

Yes
Go to Step 38.

No

38. Is ROJ 208 840/5, ROJ 208 842/5 or ROJ 208 867/5 reported in the
replaced APUB board ROJ number ?

Yes
Go to Step 39.

No
Go to Step 56.

39. Check the data recovery status. Use option -i

Use command snrinit

40. Select the appropriate action according to the recovery status:

Synchronization in progress
Go to Step 39.

Note: Wait for the synchronization to complete.

Note: snrinit: recovery in progress (rebuild:%xx complete)

Synchronization completed
Go to Step 41.

Note: snrinit: no recovery in progress

41. Is Thumb Drive present on newly replaced board?

Yes
Go to Step 42.

No
Go to Step 56.

42. List the attribute operationalState on the MO ExternalMediaM=1

43. Select the appropriate action according to the operationalState:

DISABLED
Go to Step 44.

ENABLED
Go to Step 50.

Unlock the Thumb Drive

44. Unlock the USB Thumb Drive. Use action unlockMedia on MO


ExternalMediaM=1 representing the USB Thumb drive.

Note: Unlocking USB Thumb Drive would require approximately 2-3


minutes.

45. List the attribute operationalState on the MO ExternalMediaM=1.

46. Is the value ENABLED?

Yes
Go to Step 47.

No
Go to Step 69.

47. Lock the USB Thumb Drive. Use action lockMedia on MO


ExternalMediaM=1 representing the USB Thumb drive.

Note: Lock operation would require approximately 2-3 minutes.

48. List the attribute operationalState on the MO ExternalMediaM=1.

49. Is the value DISABLED?

Yes
Go to Step 56.

No
Go to Step 69.

Lock the Thumb Drive

50. Lock the USB Thumb Drive. Use action lockMedia on MO


ExternalMediaM=1 representing the USB Thumb drive.

Note: Lock operation would require approximately 2-3 minutes.

51. List the attribute operationalState on the MO ExternalMediaM=1.

52. Is the value DISABLED?

Yes
Go to Step 53.

No
Go to Step 69.

53. Unlock the USB Thumb Drive. Use action unlockMedia on MO


ExternalMediaM=1 representing the USB Thumb drive.

Note: Unlock operation would require approximately 2-3 minutes.

54. List the attribute operationalState on the MO ExternalMediaM=1.

55. Is the value ENABLED?

Upgrade BIOS for APUB Boards

56. Print the BIOS version of the replaced node. List the attribute biosVersion
on the MO ApBladeInfo=<slot_no>.

Note: slot_no is the slot number of the replaced board. Refer to Step 3.

Note: BIOS upgrade is not mandatory, if BIOS revision running on active


node is lower than BIOS revision running on newly replaced board.
BIOS upgrade is recommended, if the BIOS revision running on
newly replaced board is lower than BIOS revision running on active
node.

57. Is the BIOS version of replaced board noted in Step 56 identical to BIOS
version of active board noted in Step 4?

Yes
Go to Step 60.

No
Go to Step 58.

58. Go to Operational Instruction BIOS Upgrade and Recovery Procedure and


perform the steps in that Operational Instruction on active/passive node
whichever is lower and return to Step 60 in this Operational Instruction.

59. Is the upgrade in Step 58 successful?

Yes
Go to Step 60.

No
Go to Step 69.

Upgrade IPMI FW for APUB Boards

60. Check the running IPMI FW revision of the replaced board. Use options
-m <magazine> -s <slot_no>

Use Command ipmifwprint

Note: Make a note of the above printout.

Note: See work order for <magazine> number and <slot_no> number.

61. Is the IPMI FW revision of replaced board noted in Step 60 identical to IPMI
FW revision of the active board as noted in Step 5 ?

62. Go to Operational Instruction Intelligent Platform Management Interface


Firmware, Upgrade and perform the steps in that Operational Instruction to
upgrade IPMI FW revision on replaced APUB board which is lower than
active board and return to Step 63 in this Operational Instruction.

63. Is the upgrade in Step 62 successful?

Yes.
