 FELONY CONVICTION AND VOTING 1

Felony Conviction and Voting

State your problem as clearly and precisely as you can.  Explain your
analysis/answer in seven (7) or more sentences.
Felony Conviction is a serious series of crimes, such as “Murder, Rape, Arson, Assault,
specifically if the incident causes severe bodily harm. Theft, specifically if the amount stolen
reaches a certain monetary threshold” (“What Happens After a Felony Conviction”).Voting states
that person during his period in prison, on parole, or on probation is ineligible to vote. “Twenty
states from America restore the voting right after this person quite the prison, parole, or
probation” (ProCon.org, 2019). On this list is situated Texas. “Two states restore voting after this
person quite the prison, parole. Seventeen states restore voting after the prison. Only one states
from United States of America left the prisoners to vote, which is Vermont. In nine states the
prisoners may lose the right to vote permanently” (ProCon.org, 2019). In my opinion, this is a
discrimination do not let the people which are in prison to vote. Back in history for the Voting
Right back were organized so many protests and so many people died to obtain this right.

What is your purpose, goal, and need for solving this problem? (Recognize problems as
obstacles to reaching your goals, achieving your purpose, or satisfying your need.) Explain
your analysis/answer in seven (7) or more sentences.
The people who committed these crimes which are situating in the list of the felony are
punished. This problem need to be solve because these people who are in prison they also have
right to vote. My purpose in solving this problem is to adopt the new laws for the entire country
to give right to vote for all people why are in prison, parole, or probation. My goal is to try to
help them to expose their opinions. To achieve my goal, I need to some actions. I am trying to by
in their place, and I cannot believe that according to the state law I will not be able to vote. They
are already punished because they are in prison. Why the state must punish them interdicting to
vote.

Study the problem to determine the “kind” of problem you are dealing with.  What kind of
problem are you trying to solve? What do you have to do to solve it?  Explain your
analysis/answer in seven (7) or more sentences.
The felony convention and voting is a national problem because all states of America are
different laws for the convicted people. In the article Voting in Texas: What You Need to Know
the author informs about people who can vote in Texas “Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if
so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration,
parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been
pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote” (Voting in Texas: What You
Need to Know). According to the author in Texas the person who is in prison cannot vote. I am
trying to understand the reason what they are not able to vote. To solve this problem I must read
so many laws where are clearly stipulated the reason why they cannot vote. After I have to ask
the other people’s opinions. In finally, I can go to talk with the Texas’s Governor to innate a
proposal letter to the President of the United States of America.

What from your problem do you have control over and what do you have no control over?
Explain your analysis/answer in seven (7) or more sentences.
From my actions, I have control over a part of them. For example, I have control over my
understanding. In other words, I can try to understand the reason who these people cannot vote.
Also, I have control to read all the laws required. In addition, I can collect people’s opinions
about this subject. Moreover, I can go to the Texas Governor. On the other hand, I cannot have
control over the Texas Governor opinion. I do not have control over his desires if he will want to
write the letter for the President of the United States of America.

What information do you need to solve the problem? Explain.  How can you actively seek
the information you need to solve the problem?  Explain your analysis/answer in seven (7)
or more sentences.
To solve this problem I need to read all the laws regarding the felony and about the
voting. I found that “This revised online edition has been expanded to include over 300
restrictions, and we feature the most current text of the laws as published on Texas Legislature
Online and the Secretary of State's website” (“Restrictions on Convicted Felons in Texas”, 2019).
The number is higher, but I must find only about the felony. I can seek the information thought
the online library or I must go to the library. In addition, I can go to the attorney office to ask for
help. Or I can go to the Public Library to ask the librarian to help to find the right information.
Also, I can read online pro and cons of the people.

What theory or theories can you formulate concerning this problem? Carefully analyze
and interpret your theories and draw reasonable inferences.  Explain your analysis/answer
in seven (7) or more sentences.
For this problem I can formulate that is not fear that these people are not able to vote
during their convention. Moreover, this right starts to be applied when people are turning
eighteen years old. But, if they are convicted then this right end for them. I cannot see the
connection who people who did not commit the crimes against the President, Senate, Governor,
or the electoral commission cannot vote. These people committed another kind of crimes. In my
opinion, their voting right must be returned. Moreover, their vote is very important because they
also are living in this country.

Determine your options for action. What can you do in the short term? In the long term?
Recognize your limitations in terms of money, time, and power.  Explain your
analysis/answer in seven (7) or more sentences.
 FELONY CONVICTION AND VOTING 3

My actions can be classified in short term actions and long term actions. The short term
actions can be the process of understanding the information. Also, the short term can be to read
the online people’s pro and cons of this subject. There are so many pro opinions, such as “it is
just wrong to deny felons the vote” (Feser Edward, 2005).On the other hand, when people from
the government wanted to vote a law to give permission to the prisoners to vote, they declared
that “It's their votes they're losing out on” (Avery Johnson, 2004). Moreover, the short term
action can be to call the Governor office to make an appointment. The long term actions can be
to read all the required laws. On the other had to study them. Also, the waiting time to meet the
Governor can be as a long term action.
