Writing: An Opinion Essay

“In order to save the environment, governments should discourage overseas

tourists from visiting.”

We all know that tourism is one of the main drivers of a country’s economy. However,
its negative impact on the environment leads us to wonder whether the government
should discourage overseas tourists from visiting or not.
First of all, we should talk about the negative impact of tourism on the environment. It
is true that tourism keeps the vivacity and energy of a place but all of this have a cost
and we see this reflected not only in water or land but in the whole biodiversity.
Tourism needs new constructions like hotels, restaurants and shops. As a result, we keep
nature aside for an extremely man-made place. There is more rubbish, air pollution and
even animals are banished from their homes or used as entertaining centres. The worst
thing is that this is getting excessive day after day.
Secondly, we have the economic effects of tourism. Well, I´ve already talked a little bit
about this at the beginning. Tourism is necessary to keep a country standing. The
government invests money in facilities and constructions to make people´s experience
more favourable and comfortable and, of course, the safety of the place plays an
important role for tourism. Then people spend money and have a good experience. They
will come back even when prices for tourists are ridiculously high due to the seller´s
strategy. Here is when money means a lot compared to keep the environment safe and
respect animals instead of starving into their habitat and taking photos or throwing
papers and food in places while you´re walking.
Finally, we should talk about society and tourism. Globalization has made a more
connected world and tourism is one of those things that get bigger every day because of
it. That means people are excited to discover new things, places and meals, learn history
and all that things.
With a lot of new facilities provided by the modern world, this becomes inevitable, as d
oes the fact that there is a lot of information that is hidden in order to keep making
money.And people keep falling into the trap of what “cool”sounds or just isn't interested 
in realizing of it. I’m talking about those things that I mentioned on the second
paragraph, like hidden pollution, smog, rubbish, animals and even people who are
disturbed and irritated by tourism.
In conclusion, all of this advantages and disadvantages of tourism on the environment
made me think that maybe this is one of those things that is not very likely to change
completely. I think the best option is not to discourage overseas tourists from visiting,
but telling the truth about a place and all that comes behind the money.
